Trans women do not have periods.

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

@CatMadam I hate to insist, but do you have any thoughts about the issue of being kind to female survivors of sexual violence which I outlined on the previous page?

This!

They don't say that at all. They link to an external blog with information on trans women's "periods". They make it clear this is different to a women's period - although they do that in an admirably respectful way.

And as someone on here pointed out they may be referring to trans men who might still have a period because they have a uterus.

I couldn't see anywhere on their website where they are selling period knickers to trans women.

I think it is really cruel that some on this thread have been influenced to say that they are going to boycott this company when there is absolutely no need to do so. In fact I think it is despicable.

Yeah it's "different to a woman's period" in the sense that it is not a period of any description.

And give over with your emotive language such as "cruel". It is not cruel to decide you don't want to support a company which spreads medical misinformation and encourages the appropriation of women's health issues by biological males.

Women are female people and only female people menstruate.

Or care to explain what you find on this, or any of the other threads, to be transphobic?

vickylou78 · 20/12/2023 10:57

I think you are missing the point Op. It's for females who have transitioned/are transitioning to live as men/gender neutral.

YABU!

Why does it matter? How does the company selling period pants that transwomen can wear negatively impact you in any way?

Or the thread at least up to the bottom of page 2.

I think an ideology that denies science, places biological men with all the physiological advantages they possess in women's sports, thinks they are entitled to attend rape crisis centres thus denying a safe space for women, puts men into women's prisons and all the other shit that's trampling over women's rights cruel and despicable. But you do you.

At least skim the thread or filter the OP's posts, for the love of God.

Yeah I agree the blog is about transwomen but the period pants are for trans men/a gender

They absolutely ARE trying to market and sell period knickers to trans women!

FROM THEIR OWN WEBSITE........

"Here are some top tips for managing your period as a trans woman:"

"Wear period underwear: By offering a sense of comfort, freedom and security, period underwear can help you feel comfortable, affirmed and empowered throughout your cycle. Check out our Women’s briefs and All Gender collection."

"Trans women’s periods are just as real and valid as anyone else’s, so whether it’s tracking your hormonal cycle, slipping on some comfy period underwear"...

Honestly have you even read the website and the links people have posted numerous times?

What's "despicable" is the fact that they are cashing in on the current ideology to make a profit, and gaslighting biological men into thinking they are experiencing a biological process that only women will ever experience.

All Gender Period Underwear | Leak-free |

Our All Gender period underwear is inclusive by design. Made to be worn and loved by all people who menstruate. Shop the full collection at Modibodi today!

Yeah I agree the blog is about transwomen but the period pants are for trans men/a gender

The blog shows that this company is fully signed up to an ideology which is incredibly harmful to, well, you know, the group of people who actually might have a legitimate need for their products, and is happy to circulate medical misinformation which could cause women confusion about their own bodies.

I'm glad they posted this nonsense. It's a cast iron reason to boycott.

Verv · 20/12/2023 11:13

Its laughable.

They are for transwomen also.

Chersfrozenface · 20/12/2023 11:21

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 20/12/2023 11:13

They are for transwomen also.

Who don't need them because they don't have periods, being male and not having a uterus of which to shed the lining.

They may want them for reasons of validation, as even the Modibodi site says. Pretending to an even greater degree that they are biological women.

sweetpickle23 · 20/12/2023 11:22

I couldn't get worked up about this.

Transwomen who want to have presumably been buying period pants for ages, regardless of whether or not they're marketed to them. Same as any man "with a period fetish" could too.

Yes transwomen don't menstruate, but factually they can experience hormonal fluctuations as a result of taking hormones- if someone wants to call that a period, I couldn't care less.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 20/12/2023 11:24

@Chersfrozenface yes I know. I was correcting that poster who seems to think they are only aimed at transmen. I'm totally onboard with how ridiculous it all is.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 20/12/2023 11:26

So why market them to them? That’s just… ikky.

Will nappy companies start promoting their largest size nappies to small adults who enjoy pooing themselves for sexual gratification?

’Softee Nappies - for babies 👶 - and now either extra gusset girth for strange uncle Tim 💁‍♂️ ’

sweetpickle23 · 20/12/2023 11:33

That's not really a fair comparison @HoneyButterPopcorn, unless you are suggesting that all transwomen are so for sexual gratification. Which would be quite transphobic.

The company are marketing to them to maximise their customer base and make more money. Like most companies.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 20/12/2023 11:47

Buying period pants when you can’t need them is a bit - unusual wouldn’t you say?

Do you think that all words should just be used to mean whatever the individual wants them to mean?

Or just words relating specifically to women and women's health?

sweetpickle23 · 20/12/2023 11:50

I mean if doing so doesn't impact me personally then yeah people can use whatever words they want @MargotBamborough

If people like, say, Dylan Mulvaney really wanted to show that they are part of the sisterhood, they could buy period pants and donate them to "people who menstruate" who are living in poverty. That would be a lot more useful than bloody wearing them when they are designed to absorb blood flowing from a reproductive organ they do not have.
