Trans women do not have periods.

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

The page which appears numerous times on this thread is not linked to from the Modibodi site, it is hosted on the Modibodi site. The URL starts www.modibodi.co.uk

And it says that some transwomen don't have uteruses. This is nonsense. NO transwomen have uteruses, none of them, because they are biologically male.

It's not a "whole section".

It's one (nonsensical) blog post.

So it's nonsensical.

Why, then, do you think Midibodi thought it should host it on the company website?

What's your point?

Women should be able to make their own decisions about whether to buy this company's products based on accurate information about their values.

It's not accurate to say they are only concerned with trans men and non binary people who menstruate, because they specifically say that trans women have periods, which is clearly nonsense.

I don't actually think it is that kind to lie to people with dysphoria and pretend we see them the way they see themselves. The more people are willing to go along with the pretence, the more crushing it must be when they encounter someone who isn't prepared to do it.

I have thought for a long time that pharmaceutical companies should be trying to develop a drug to alleviate the symptoms of dysphoria, similar to an antidepressant. Surely it would be much better to help trans people overcome their dysphoria and live more comfortably in the body they are actually in.

But I doubt this will happen because pharmaceutical companies have more to gain from pumping people full of synthetic hormones for the rest of their lives, and society in general isn't brave enough to say that it would actually be beneficial to try and find a cure for dyphoria, because that would imply that there is something wrong with being trans.

I agree.

My point is that its extremely misrepresentative to describe one blog post as a "whole section" on a website.

Is it?

A blog post is a section on a website, if it is being hosted on that website.

It's a bit odd that you're taking issue with me describing a blog post as a "section" on the grounds that it is misleading, rather than the content of the post itself which isn't just misleading but an outright lie.

Could it be because the company approves of lying, anti-scientific propaganda that is insulting to women?

I can agree something is bloody stupid whilst also thinking it is being blown out of all reasonable proportion.

You'll hurt yourself reaching like that.

Why else would it host such nonsense?

A misplaced desire to be kind? Naivety? Genuinely believing the pile of crap contained therein? A marketing gimmick?

I don't think it is disproportionate to highlight the fact that this company is promoting medical misinformation and is fully signed up to this ideology that is so harmful to women and girls.

There are a lot of women on this thread who now want to exercise their right to take their custom elsewhere.

TheKeatingFive · 20/12/2023 09:43

A misplaced desire to be kind? Naivety? Genuinely believing the pile of crap contained therein? A marketing gimmick?

And if anyone thought anything through, for more than a split second, they'd realise that the info is false and insulting to women.

So why feature it? Because they genuinely don't care about that fact. I can come to no other conclusion.

scorpiogirly · 20/12/2023 09:46

Let's not forget that a lot of these men do not have dysphoria. They are autogynephiles. It's a paraphilia. In my opinion, perverted.

I'm sure genuine dysphoria does exist, but only in extremely small cases. This should be dealt with by therapy, not lies and mutilation of healthy body parts.

Without wanting to use any words that frequently get posts deleted on here, I would hazard a guess that the ones who like to think they experience periods are not the genuinely dysphoric ones.

scorpiogirly · 20/12/2023 09:55

Completely agree. There are 'transwomen' such as Miranda Yardley who do not claim such nonsense. He doesn't force people to use certain pronouns for him, he doesn't use female toilets. And as sad as it is, because men staying out of women's spaces shouldn't be so unusual, I admire him for these reasons.

TheKeatingFive · 20/12/2023 09:57

Both of these things clearly exist. They were well documented before any of this recent trans movement.

The most interesting thing is how they've become conflated. Again, whose interests does this serve?

They are for trans men not trans women aren’t they? Ie biological women living as men.

It’s all about money anyways…

Wheresmykitten · 20/12/2023 10:01

It’s unkind really. I mean this genuinely but people like India willoughby think they have actually changed sex, as in they say they are a biological woman with a cervix.

They desperately pose and pout in various outfits calling everyone else else frumps but they are clearly a very sad male who has lost their family, seemingly no friends and has probably realized to their horror that taking off their penis has made no difference and they are not seen as a woman still.

scorpiogirly · 20/12/2023 10:03

We could argue that dysphoria does exist.

Do I believe anyone is born in the wrong body? No. We are who we are. I don't think anyone really understands, including the doctors, unless you have experienced this feeling first hand. But to say it is possible for a person to change sex is preposterous.

It's easy to see who it serves. Men and the pharmaceutical companies.

"Be kind" is the new way of telling women and girls to shut the fuck up.

Makes me all punchy.

This

Mornusting · 20/12/2023 10:07

It's so sad that some women are more bothered about calling someone out about a link or the language used as opposed to being concerned about the actual subject matter.

Ramalangadingdong · 20/12/2023 10:15

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/12/2023 09:17

You obviously haven’t read the thread. They do say that some trans women have a period which is nonsense.

They don't say that at all. They link to an external blog with information on trans women's "periods". They make it clear this is different to a women's period - although they do that in an admirably respectful way.

And as someone on here pointed out they may be referring to trans men who might still have a period because they have a uterus.

I couldn't see anywhere on their website where they are selling period knickers to trans women.

I think it is really cruel that some on this thread have been influenced to say that they are going to boycott this company when there is absolutely no need to do so. In fact I think it is despicable.

Nah. I'm not giving my money to a period knickers company that shares lies such as "Yes, anyone can get their period, transwomen included", and "some transwomen don't have uteruses", and using the word "period" to describe side effects of taking cross-sex hormones.

It's not a link, it's a blog on their site. They are standing by this nonsense, and I stand by taking my money to a different company that doesn't spread lies.
