Trans women do not have periods.

zaazaazoo · 19/12/2023 18:12

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

I think any transwoman claiming they have periods needs to have a lesson in basic female biology and needs to understand what a period is actually made up of

and a basic lesson in respect because if they say they have periods they're being a world class dick

JWhipple · 19/12/2023 22:13

Oh good grief. Really?

When I commented, one link had been shared. That wasn’t it.

Apologies. Next time I’ll sit and wait for a few hours and sift through hundreds of comments and links before I respond.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 19/12/2023 22:27

I wonder if they’re saying some trans women don’t have uteruses as things change so fast with this ideology and so straight out giving a fact like no trans woman has a uterus is too risky to say as definitions change all the time.

I don't know about you but I have more important things to worry about than whether or not someone that identifies as trans has a hormonal cycle similar to a cis woman's period or not. Get a grip.

I am concerned that a neutral but sex specific bodily function is being attached to identity.

I don’t identify with having a period any more than I identify with having an elbow. It’s just a fact of life that I can’t avoid.

I am sympathetic towards people who suffer from gender dysphoria, but I no more want to live in a society with an enforced gender framework than I want to be forced to go to church.

There are people with profiles on Twitter who identify as trans women, but whose sex is female. Who knows?

(I am hesitant to believe everything I see on Twitter).

Cancelledcurio · 19/12/2023 22:33

All about the cash! Selling their product for the menz fetish! And no OP, trans women do Not have periods in any shape or form.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2023 22:36

and being trans, and identifying as a women makes them feel happy. Your language is extreme and it totally undermines real feelings of others. Have a little humanity and calm the f down

Personally, I don't believe in lying to people to make them happy. People's feelings about things do not trump reality.

Men are not women. It's very simple. If they struggle with that concept they need therapy.

These people are taking the piss

Barleysugar86 · 19/12/2023 22:45

So the only way I can make sense of this would be in the case of hermaphrodites, where both sex organs are present, who are more traditionally assigned 'male' due to having a penis but about 50% of hermaphrodites will also have a form of womb and periods. If they decided to transition to being female I could see this being their some transwomen who have wombs. It's all very niche though! Very weird page by the Company.

What's with the spammers posting that same link?

😂 at "spammers".

It's because people aren't reading it the first time it was posted.

Nothing 'import' clearly!

Grouchy's use of "import" was legitimate, although old-fashioned.

import

1. to buy or bring in products from another country: 2. to introduce new…

Yes. This. Why are people so stupid they don't realise this?

And yet here are ModiBodi recommending periods pants for trans women (ie. men). "Wear period underwear: By offering a sense of comfort, freedom and security, period underwear can help you feel comfortable, affirmed and empowered throughout your cycle. Check out our Women’s briefs and All Gender collection."

Who's stupid, exactly?

Sorry, am in trouble with the mumsnet police? Reading my timings back to me. So bizarre. But also quite hilarious.

Ok, I must have missed that link. I don’t come here much (am now remembering why…) and so thought the first link was the discussion point. I do apologise. Thank you both for pointing out my error in such a condescending way. I hope it made you feel good.

Perhaps rather than leaving multiple quite frankly rude comments to others who did the same (you guys have a lot of free time huh?), you could just politely advise the original poster to provide a link. Or maybe you have and I've just not seen it. I’m sure you’ll let me know 😂.

elgreco · 19/12/2023 23:17

Read the fucking thread

Daftolive · 19/12/2023 23:34

If trans women are having any kind of ‘period without the bleeding’ or monthly ‘cycle’ they should sue their doctors.

If you have ovaries your hormone levels naturally fluctuate every month to tell your body to build up a womb lining, ovulate and then shed the lining if you don’t become pregnant. If you’re taking female hormones and don’t have ovaries you should be on a consistent dosage. You may have side effects from the hormones but they’re being delivered at a constant level every single day so there’s no ‘cycle’.

porridgeisbae · 19/12/2023 23:39

People with disorders of sexual development are assigned male or female at birth based on which sex they most resemble. Almost all of them are keen to be the gender they've already been assigned. The amount of them who attempt to transition to something else is probably less than in the general population. So yes, niche to the point of being unlikely.

Read the fucking thread

People shouldn’t have to read through pages and pages of literally hundreds of comments before adding a response. Such a weird expectation. Some of us don’t have time.

The point is to respond to the original post. The thread is other people’s opinions/reactions to read through out of interest.

The issue isn’t people not reading every f-ing comment. It’s the original poster not providing the relevant information.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/12/2023 23:53

At 300 odd posts in, at least skim the thread or filter to just the OP's updates. It's not difficult. Discussion naturally moves on and to knob in with something that's been dealt with many times since the original OP is eye roll inducing.

The irony!

There wouldn't be literally hundreds of replies running over several pages if people had at least scanned the conversation, or even just the OP's posts, to see if things had evolved before posting.

Hot tip - any thread that's running into hundreds of replies is going to have some twists and turns along the way, and anything you're thinking of saying will have already been said.
