To find this a bit boastful?

I have a friend with an 18 month old daughter with her husband. They often post photos of her/them all as a family on social media, and I rarely seem to see this friend anymore but I know they have bought a new build home and her husband is in quite a senior position at work.
They posted a picture of their daughter yesterday and wrote a caption: "We are so blessed with our jobs to be in a position to provide you with absolutely everything you need and so much more!"
I just think it's a bit showy-off, yes it's not a big deal but it's kind of boasting that they earn well, and that it's only monetary things that matter/mean you can provide.

I shrivelled up with cringe reading that

Her friend might be happy, but she needs to read the room and think about people who have to decide between eating and heating and can't afford presesnt for their kids.

Does she not care how she is making them feel? If not, then she is a self-centered twat.

At some point people have to manage their own feelings, and not expect others to tailor everything to them.

You can choose to unfollow someone that bothers you.

NOOOOOOO!

Posting a pic of your pay cheque is on a par with posting a pic of your piles.

Well yes, he is a chronic oversharer but even this was a bit much, especially as he's often pleading poverty to his mum...

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 19/12/2023 15:59

Since her daughter is too young to be on SM and can’t see the post their parents put, they must be talking to you. How nice they can give you everything you need. Reply that you need a car, thanks!

Hocuspocusnonsense · 19/12/2023 16:02

It’s vulgar, boastful, tactless and many more! They WANT to show everyone how well off they are.

millymog11 · 19/12/2023 16:03

Not read the whole thread.

It is definitely crass and stupid.

Whether it was meant overtly as boasting all depends on context, a lot of people out there are stupid and have taken the whole "gratitude" movement to another level and want to be praised for appearing to be grateful for what they have. But doing it on social media / facebook/insta/whatever it cancels out any gratitude and comes across as boastful/patronising/preachy/too-much-information whichever which way leaves a bad taste and so has the opposite effect of hashtag gratitude.

dayswithaY · 19/12/2023 16:06

It’s normal these days, social media is usually just one long boast about how great your life is.

In America, this is fine, they celebrate success but here, we don’t like it. We’re just becoming more American-ish, that’s all.

TooTender · 19/12/2023 16:07

It’s super cringe. The things people will post on social media without their toes curling as amaze me!

TulipCat · 19/12/2023 16:12

Any post containing the word "blessed" gets an instant unfollow from me, so I wouldn't care after that 😂

Lordofmyflies · 19/12/2023 16:15

I suspect they are victims of the inverse brag rule of social media. Those that brag the most are often the most deeply unhappy and not content with their lot.

MeMySonAnd1 · 19/12/2023 16:16

Not old money then…

I have found that there is direct correlation on this kind of things: the more you boast the less you have/had.

Cotswoldmama · 19/12/2023 16:17

I bet they wish each other happy birthday over Facebook too! I always think posts like that mean the opposite and it's a way of justifying their lifestyle choices, like they might be able to provide everything financially but feel guilty that they done have much family time together. It always seems to be the gushy people that you hear of getting divorced!

mikado1 · 19/12/2023 16:17

Vulgar and embarrassing.

They'll be the type to think they love their dc more than others do theirs, that their dc is better than others etc. Major eyeroll.

allyallsorts · 19/12/2023 16:21

In my experience its people like this who post all that cringey stuff online about how wonderful their life is are the same ones who end up divorcing or are otherwise unhappy. Its like the actual unhappiness drives the need to create this happy façade like if everyone else believes it maybe it will actually become their reality. What usually happens though is the shit hits the fan in some way down the line and everyone is shocked thinking they were oh so happy and blessed.

Its usually the quiet people who don't make a bit show of themselves, their families and home that are usually happiest and the most genuinely secure.

BigBouncyBaubles · 19/12/2023 14:14

How can people not cringe themselves inside out posting that kind of tripe? I’m clenching my arse in secondhand embarrassment for them.

#clenching #bum #makingmemories #blessed

😂

Yeah, that is an especially awful example of the type of twattish stuff people post on social media. She sounds quite...dim.

I left social media 2 years ago. I realised I was starting to dislike some people I thought were perfectly sane and balanced before seeing their SM posts.

They also have a very different definition of what success means. When it comes to possessions what they celebrate as abundance, we see as excess and wastefulness. If we indulge in excess and wastefulness, we don’t feel the need to talk about it, in fact… we try our best to hide it!

InSpainTheRain · 19/12/2023 16:36

Oh dear that's beyond cringe! I'd be doing a slow fade on her. It's also a weird thing to post - I could never say anything like that because jobs, health and financial position can all change very quickly!

QS90 · 19/12/2023 16:39

I cringed reading it 😳

zingally · 19/12/2023 16:41

It's twatty.

And sounds a lot like a woman I worked with years ago. She is always posting family photoshoots in shades of beige, and is usually spending her weekends going to those "a random young woman dresses up like a disney princess and pretends to be Elsa" parties, and saying how amazing they are. So much so that I'm starting to wonder if she has shares in the company that do them! Except her DD is too old for them now, and her younger DS couldn't be less interested if he tried! Plus they look crap!

My nearly-7 DD would laugh her head off if I took her to something like that.

You can choose to unfollow someone that bothers you.

At some point, people need to think about other people and not just about themselves.

It makes them a better person.

Yes, I am sure lots of people will unfollow her but the damage has already been done.

wishingiwas20something · 19/12/2023 16:45

CRINGE.

StripyHorse · 19/12/2023 16:47

It's boastful and cringey, but I would be wondering why she felt the need to post. Is she perhaps feeling guilty at working long hours and so is justifying it to herself by showing what material trappings she can provide to her child.

Christingle123 · 19/12/2023 16:48

Bet she's got a white lease car and crushed velvet aplenty 😑

Terrrence · 19/12/2023 16:53

It's an odd thing to write. Could they think people think they can't afford the child and this post is to say otherwise. I would take that post as meaning 'we can afford our child' and assume they didn't have much money.
