To dress siblings the same?

Really important post. Vital. Life depends on it. I know, my choice and all but tacky as hell or unbelievably cute?

@twoshedsjackson was that to me?

If so I totally agree and as I said before we very rarely match them. Even with clothes they own in matching they tend to wear them at different times. It is sometimes easier to match at special events etc because finding two equally nice but different dresses is really really hard!

They are identical though

Draconis · 19/12/2023 13:24

I'm in the tacky crowd but my friend had her whole family dressed the same and she's not tacky at all and has such a fun spirit. She's kind and lovely and her family is gorgeous so now I've changed my mind.

Go and have fun.

As someone who was formerly one of those siblings, the tackiness is a side issue compared to realising that in your parents’ head, you’re just a generic unit in their aesthetic.

Absolutely this. I hated it, but my mother would.always dress us the same. When my sister (older) started complaining, she still dressed us the same but in different colours. I still hated it. It robs the child of its individuality, it took me a while to discover my own style and personality and only as an older teen.

I am four years older than my sister and I completely resented wearing the same clothes as her. I didn’t like the same clothes as her as felt like I had no autonomy.

I'm pretty sure this poster isn't my sister, but I was the younger in this exact situation and hated it.

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 19/12/2023 13:40

Tackissimo.

scotspancake86 · 19/12/2023 13:41

Whatever makes you happy! It's not like they are 18 and 16 years of age. Go for it and enjoy the cuteness!!

GreySantaRabbit · 19/12/2023 14:21

Ugh no. I was made to wear matching clothes as my younger sister and I hated it. They treated us the same (same birthday and Christmas presents too) even though there was 3 years age difference and I absolutely detested having to wear the same clothes, same hairstyle and have the same books and toys as my younger sibling. Even worse was the same bedtime! 😡

I felt so ignored.

OMG really?!? Grin

My mum dressed me and my sister the same until I was old enough to choose my own clothing. It was never anything more than because she liked the clothing and thought we'd look cute as a twosome. And it did nothing to shape my personality or anything.

If there were other things going in your life, I'm sorry about that, but your response is extreme.

I have a DD and a DS with 2.5yrs between them. They loved being in matching outfits on the odd occasions it happened.

A neighbour has 3DDs with one being 18mths older than the (non-identical) twins. She says it saves rows between the toddler twins if they're in the same and the older sister complaining that she's different if she's not in the same too. I'm just impressed that she's on top of the washing enough to have the same outfits clean at the same time!

zingally · 19/12/2023 17:01

Cute for, under 5s, but after that, it looks silly.

An acquaintance of mine makes her 12yo and 6yo dress the same, and it looks so dumb. I'm amazed the 12yo puts up with it tbh.
