Really important post. Vital. Life depends on it. I know, my choice and all but tacky as hell or unbelievably cute?

But but but

they will be so CUTE 😭

They are opposite sex. 3 and 4 months. 4 month old has a dress, 3 year old the accompanying jumper.

Sorry, tacky .

Extrasprinklesplz · 18/12/2023 19:57

Some kids hate it, some don't mind it. If they start disliking it then stop. Other than that it's fine. Sometimes can look cute, sometimes can look tacky.

dastidlydaschel · 18/12/2023 19:57

Cute op and if others think it's tacky, so what?! Sod them! You probably wouldn't like what they put their kids in, but who cares?!

tealandteal · 18/12/2023 19:57

All the time, no it’s too much. Occasionally yes I think it’s fine. There is 5 years between my boys and the older loves wearing a matching t shirt with the baby on occasion. When they don’t want to I won’t put them in it.

dastidlydaschel · 18/12/2023 19:58

Once they get past 3yrs though they will probably want to have a bit of choice over what they wear as their personalities develop though

Jessforless · 18/12/2023 19:58

If this is for Christmas absolutely do this!

my DC have always done this for Christmas, Easter, special dinners on holiday etc. (2 years apart)… they never complained and seem unscathed!

Catsmere · 18/12/2023 19:59

Awful. Like being put into a uniform at home.

Everydayimhuffling · 18/12/2023 19:59

Fine in pyjamas or tinies. My 3 and 5 year old have the same dungarees which they occasionally wear at the same time with different shirts, and matching pyjamas.

Surely your children choose most of their clothes from early on? Mine are not compliant enough to wear what I say if they don't want to!

NearlyHeadlessNick · 18/12/2023 20:01

Gosh I'm surprised at the answers.
Mine have matching leggings or pyjamas all the time, they love it - they're 3 and 5 🤷🏼‍♂️

The 4 month old definitely prefers dinosaurs to unicorns. I’ve asked her and she said ‘eh.’ The 3 year old is devoid of personality and is just impatient for me to dress him so he can get back to destroying things.

My eldest DS is 5 and he loves dressing the same as his Bro (3) They get mad when they aren't matching! ;)

DitheringBlidiot · 18/12/2023 20:02

Tacky

KirstenBlest · 18/12/2023 20:03

Seriously, OP. If you are going somewhere busy like an airport or theme park, get them both in something distinctive and the same colour.

Don't do it for the sake of looking cute unless you are the Von Trapp family.

SnapBang · 18/12/2023 20:03

Mine love dressing the same!!! I used to do it when they were toddlers a bit, partly for cuteness and partly because everyone knew they were both mine if one ran off at softplay and promptly pointed them out to me 😂 I stopped as they started school but they always request it. Matching family pyjamas are not my thing but the DC adore it so we always get involved - it’s Christmas! But of fun. They also want matching Christmas jumpers so that’s fine too. I don’t dress them alike incessantly but I won’t be governed by what others think is tacky either 😂 they also like plastic barbies and not trendy wooden toys so hey ho! Guess I got the uncool kids!!! 😂😂😂😜

Lieblingsessen · 18/12/2023 20:04

When my sister and I were very young, many, many, many years ago, my mother made our dresses. We had the same dress style and fabric pattern, but we had our assigned colour. Mine was pink and my sister was blue. I didn't mind as we were similar, but different.

Ormside · 18/12/2023 20:05

Awful, especially on twins. DH's niece spouts some bull about fostering sisterhood when she forces her DDs to dress alike, they're 5 and 13! It looks ridiculous. We have several sets of multiples in our family and fortunately their DMs have taste, encouraging their DC's individuality.

Whataretheodds · 18/12/2023 20:05

Like The Shining? Or The Sound of Music?

Lieblingsessen · 18/12/2023 20:07

Also, when my son and nephew were little, if I saw a jumper I liked, I would sometimes buy one for each of them. They looked so cute if they played together and happened to both be wearing the same jumper.

Songbird54321 · 18/12/2023 20:07

My girls match on special occasions only, at the eldest's request (youngest is none the wiser). They matched last Christmas, botb Christmas eve pj's and their Christmas day dresses, and for a wedding this past summer. Generally I don't match them but if they want to I'm not fussed. There's almost 5 years between them so not that easy to find stuff to match in a lot of places.
I wouldn't match with them though, I feel it draws attention to me that I'd rather not have on me.

Rickenbackergoodgrief · 18/12/2023 20:08

Ask yourself how you would have felt if your mum continually dressed you the same as your sister.

LBFseBrom · 18/12/2023 20:09

Marblessolveeverything · 18/12/2023 19:41

Tacky as hell, children are individuals. Nope from me.

I agree.

It's important that children are treated as individuals, that includes twins. It is also old fashioned. I know parents often used to dress siblings of the same sex in identical clothes years ago but that is old hat. If they go to the same school for some of their years and wear school uniform, they will be dressed the same but there's no need for that out of school.

One they reach a certain age they are likely to object anyway.

I'd say that's not dressing them the same - that's dressing them in complementary outfits which is so totally different and thoroughly acceptable!

Do it 😍

Like The Shining? Or The Sound of Music?

I had that mental picture of the twins in the shining when reading the OP.

My sons insist on dressing the same sometimes the little weirdos (ages 4 and 10).
