Really important post. Vital. Life depends on it. I know, my choice and all but tacky as hell or unbelievably cute?

As a toddler DD loved dressing like her baby sister. Id do things like get the same tops and legging multipacks and do them opposite of each other as well.

They grew out of wanting to match.

Sceptre86 · 18/12/2023 20:12

On special occasions I often do. My dd and ds are 15 months apart and I would dress one in a mickey xmas jumper and the other in minnie for Christmas or dd in a red dress and ds in a red shirt etc. I now have dd2 and on Eid the girls might wear the same outfit or all 3 kids the same colour. Sometimes ds will wear a similar colour to me and the girls their dad or the other way around. As they get older though I expect they will want to choose their own outfits which is fair enough.

You do you.

goingback · 18/12/2023 20:12

horrendous , my neighbour does this with 3 kids with nearly a 10 year gap between eldest and youngest. She sometimes wears matching items too. Always cringe at this when out and about. Ditto matching xmas jammies and mini-me outfits.

reasoningwithstupidity · 18/12/2023 20:13

My pre teen likes matching with my toddler. 🫣 the older one says it's nice to have something in common 😅

HoldingTheDoor · 18/12/2023 20:13

Tacky, weird and creepy. It reminds me of those fundamentalist Mormon cults/families.

QueenBean22 · 18/12/2023 20:13

It sounds cute 🥰 honestly don’t listen to the snobs on here. Do what you think looks nice.

Catsmere · 18/12/2023 20:14

Whataretheodds · 18/12/2023 20:05

Like The Shining? Or The Sound of Music?

Or a cult. The Family (Anne Hamilton-Byrne's notorious group) springs to mind.

KCSIE · 18/12/2023 20:14

I have a 3yo and a 7m old, same sex. I asked the 3yo if they'd like to wear the same outfit as baby sibling and 3yo said a resounding yes. 7m old said 'ba ba BA ba' which I took to mean yes also 😍

3yo will probably be the one to choose their outfit though and it'll be wacky as hell no doubt because that's their style. Think 'festival ready'. Baby will just have to wear the same 😂

I probably wouldn't inflict it on them next year though.

Remy7 · 18/12/2023 20:16

I have 2 boys under 2.... Matching means I only have to make one outfit decision in a morning!
Don't do it all the time but they look so cute when I do.
Go for it @RickWhittington

Crunchingleaf · 18/12/2023 20:16

I hated, hated, hated being dressed in matching clothes to my younger sister. It felt like I wasn’t being seen as me. I am older by four years so anything she wore or played with was for babies.
My youngest two are 14 months apart so I don’t think they would mind, but the baby wears hand me downs instead.

LittleGreenFroggie · 18/12/2023 20:17

Tacky as hell. My mother did it to me and my sister and we hated it.

UsingChangeofName · 18/12/2023 20:18

Awful.
Sounds really horrendous.
Don't do it.

Pineapplewaves · 18/12/2023 20:23

Mine are 4 and 7 and love dressing the same, they like the same things so they get annoyed if one gets a Paw Patrol top or a pair of dinosaur pyjamas and the other doesn't, for example. Unfortunately older DS is now moving out of the younger kids sizes and moving into the older kids so it's getting harder to get them the same now.

purser25 · 18/12/2023 20:26

At one time identical twins used the wear the same I had friends and they still wore the same until they were in university. Yet they were individuals separate steady boyfriends. Remember seeing a set of twins on the trains probably in their late 40’s identical right down to coats and handbags sad really

To dress siblings the same?
SmellyNelliey · 18/12/2023 20:31

Well I think my lot push the boat out as even my neices have matching stuff to my 3 daughter's yearly Christmas photos watching them grow is lovely 😍

Whataretheodds · 18/12/2023 20:05

Like The Shining? Or The Sound of Music?

Many years ago I remember being at a church service which included a christening. The baby was the youngest of 4 and all the children were wearing outfits in the same fabric; this was nearly 30 years ago and I can picture it today.

greyflannel · 18/12/2023 20:34

Buy my teens in matching Xmas PJs because it's funny. They obligingly pose and gurn.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/12/2023 20:34

I went to a wedding where there were identical twins dressed identically. Girls of about 11. At one point they were dancing to the Macarena, i.e. moving identically as well, which was a bit of a mindfuck if I'm honest.

Other than that, I vote cute.

ttcat37 · 18/12/2023 20:36

Absolutely tragic

mathanxiety · 18/12/2023 20:37

Naff.

At least do what my mother did, and get the same dress but different colours for each of us. I always got the blue or navy version. It was the 70s, so another sister was dressed in orange and brown, and the third was pink/purple. A win for me, I think.

bluesky45 · 18/12/2023 20:38

I have 2 and they sometimes choose to match. Sometimes they just randomly and accidentally both pick the same outfit so they are matching. Sometimes I put them in matching. Tbh, they like the same things so it works for us because they pick what they like

Quickredfox · 18/12/2023 20:42

My opposite sex children ask to wear the same. There are a few identical outfits available as if I see something in the sales I buy it in all the future sizes, but I would never suggest that they wear the same clothes on the same day, they pick.
Same clothes In different colours has also been popular.

Chubby81 · 18/12/2023 20:45

Maybe you didn’t thank your parents for it. That’s doesn’t mean all kids will feel the same way. I have four and my 5 and 2 yr old have a few matching items. My 14 yr old has a couple of dresses in the same print and is disappointed if I forget to include her on days they are matching. They generally love matching but if one of them doesn’t feel like it they don’t have to join in.

JenniferJuniper80 · 18/12/2023 20:45

I love to see siblings dressed alike and especially if mum joins in.
But what do I know.

It's subjective, if you like it, go for it.
