To think (generationally) wealthy people are better looking?

Yes, there are many men who would have married the 'homely' neighbour in order to join land or for alliance reasons.

But very often, a wealthy man 'gets to pick' a beautiful woman. Over several generations, surely this results in a better looking family overall. Whereas we plebs occasionally are randomly good looking, but not in the same way as a family with generation after generation of 'beauty injections' to their gene pool.

"What is beautiful? I'm not sure everyone agrees on that."

There are general standards within a particular culture and time period, yes.

The RF’s hangers on/friends aren't stunning either and I’m not sure they are upper echelons, although some of them might have titles. Also in many countries, KM would simply be considered average. She has expensive styling and grooming and dresses impeccably but she’s not stunningly beautiful and nor are her sister and brother. However, I would say that people like Harry’s exes Florence Brudenell Bruce and Cressida Bonas are beautiful and I think Meghan Markle is too (considerably more so than KM). But many posh people don’t look good.

It's so subjective to say Meghan is considerably more beautiful than Kate. In my opinion I would say the opposite. I think Megan is very average looking but uses her wealth to improve her looks and clothes.

Doria is superbly beautiful 😍.

KimberleyClark · 16/12/2023 12:35

I don’t think Kate is beautiful. She’s very attractive, well groomed and styled but she’s a bit too bland and conventional looking to be a beauty.

Cool, a nice bit of racism to go with my lunch

Kate is not beautiful. I agree that Doria is better looking than Meghan, but Meghan is definitely better looking than Kate who is far too thin and has a raddled look about her. I'm no Sussex Squad-er, either, but I think that the fawning over Kate is quite ridiculous.

CurlewKate · 16/12/2023 12:37

Not sure the royal family bears your theory out....

She is very generic looking. Her sister is slightly prettier but again absolutely nothing outstanding IMO.

There is some good bone structure around with the wealthy, that’s my observation.

Naptrappedmummy · 16/12/2023 12:37

YANBU, but I find it applies to middle class wealthy rather than aristocracy wealthy. The latter usually look… odd

Sometimes. Not for our Royal Family.

QueenOfThorns · 16/12/2023 12:38

For the ultimate lesson against royal inbreeding, I give you King Charles II of Spain (and bear in mind that this portrait is likely to be quite flattering, what with him being royal and all)!

Royals are a bit different though as there’s a history of inbreeding there.

If only he’d eaten less ultra processed food…

I’m not sure why the royals’ looks are getting such a bashing. They’re not the Munsters.

And conversely you almost never ever see a mugshot of anything other than weasel faced or overweight unattractive men

I disagree. What amazes me is when you see smooth handsome well heeled men who look very elegant suddenly looking like complete shite on a mug shot when they are arrested for fraud or something seedy

Queen Victoria.

A long time ago, cosmetics were limited and frowned upon anyway (save for prostitutes and actresses) so even the Royals were limited in what they could do to look better, beyond the lack of worry, better food and housing.

I suppose today she'd have had a shitload of stuff done to her face because of her money which may have helped, but going by the basic genetics she was quite ordinary.

How many term pregnancies had she had? Nine? Ten?

SantiagoSky · 16/12/2023 12:49

The Windsor family has been reigning since centuries. They should be the most beautiful people according to the theory. What happened?

KimberleyClark · 16/12/2023 12:49

Re criminals, Ted Bundy was very handsome.

I've always though royals suffered in the looks department because they married each other - essentially inbreeding - to keep the loot in the family.

Although, he doesn’t look THAT bad to be fair. He was just never my cup of tea at the best of times.

Hugh Grant’s mugshot got taken in 1995! How time flies.

Still, he’s been busy over that time, hating on the press and making crap Richard Curtis movies.

He doesn’t look ugly, he just looks shifty and guilty as ALL HELL. It’s so funny 😂 what a nob.

MsCactus · 16/12/2023 12:59

Historically - this wasn't true because aristocracy used to interbreed.

Interbreeding leads to people having more genetic diseases, being less intelligent and less attractive.

So it depends how far back you're going IMO.

All the attractive people I know date similarly attractive people - and vice versa for less attractive people, irrespective of wealth.

I think diversity of genes tends to lead to healthier and more attractive offspring tbh. I don't think the upper classes have the most genetic diversity, so I disagree with your hypothesis.

For sure having money helps you maintain looks as you age though, but that's maybe something different than raw beauty.
