To think (generationally) wealthy people are better looking?

Yes, there are many men who would have married the 'homely' neighbour in order to join land or for alliance reasons.

But very often, a wealthy man 'gets to pick' a beautiful woman. Over several generations, surely this results in a better looking family overall. Whereas we plebs occasionally are randomly good looking, but not in the same way as a family with generation after generation of 'beauty injections' to their gene pool.

I dunno, I wouldn't say the royals are a good looking lot by any stretch of the imagination.

In-breeding.
It's probably less extreme in other old money families.

"But no diet creates beauty, long term or short term."

Well, OK it's not going to change my ugly nose and the basic shape of my face, but the condition of my skin might be improved if I eat avocado and salmon more often and less processed food and sugar.

We should all try to eat well, certainly. If nothing else there’s more pleasure in a varied diet.

But I really doubt that eating one thing in place of another would make skin better or hair glossier.

@Circularargument did you read the article I linked? I’m guessing not…

Peacheroo · 16/12/2023 11:44

Healthier and cleaner maybe but an example being the royal family and the majority of the Tory party... no.

The kardashians on the other hand who are from money but now have on obscene amount are incredibly (stereotypically) good looking, because of their wealth.

" If nothing else there’s more pleasure in a varied diet."

Well I don't agree with that.

"But I really doubt that eating one thing in place of another would make skin better or hair glossier."

I think it does, just from observation. I can't prove it though. I'd have to look up the research.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2023 11:47

Good grief, no. Go and look at paintings in stately homes. Most were inbred and ugly as sin.

The very best breeding ended up with Harry and William.

Neither are good looking men.

roombaclean · 16/12/2023 07:24

Maybe intelligent, professional people but aristocracy? They are reliably unattractive.

100%! Most are super ugly. My other half says it because of centuries of in-breeding 😂

William was some kind of heartthrob in his youth, but with the Royals there are generations of inbreeding, as I've already mentioned.

spookehtooth · 16/12/2023 11:57

What is beautiful? I'm not sure everyone agrees on that.

Many of the objectively unattractive things amongst the poor are not genetic. Badly looked after teeth, unhealthy eating and not taking care of body and many other things.

Acquiring wealth and passing it on has very little to do with looks. In fact marriage itself is only relatively recently connected with looks and it's still not true in all cultures. For an awful lot longer it has to do with male power, trading women between families to build alliances

Yep, the inbreeding has a lot to do with it. They just kept on breeding the same unattractive looks back into the gene pool.

Yes! That's my point.

I agree, the royals have extremely strong genes and all look the same after centuries of inbreeding. Even now they’ve slightly expanded the gene pool to increase the upper middle classes, the poor kids have no chance and will look attractive until they turn 21 and then will immediately and unfortunately start to age like an egg sandwich, poor bastards.

Middle class and upper middle class families though - 100%!

User14March · 16/12/2023 12:04

@Gwenhwyfar @tomatoontoast the higher class Spencers are generally better looking & on an upward trajectory.

The Royal family? Bill Gates? Elon musk? OK so I'll going to the elite part but hardly beauty genes lol

As I said, I'm not including aristocracy. And Bill Gates doesn't come from generations of millionaires. Musk maybe one generation. This observation is for several generations of beauty.

Re eugenics. I'm not saying they are cleverer, or better, or deserve their wealth. Simply that they are more aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Re: PW, hair transplants are now transformative esp if done, well, pre 50.

VanityDiesHard · 16/12/2023 12:10

No. Wealthy people are more 'attractive' in that they have access to good procedures, dental care, etc. But they are no better looking than anyone else. Look at the Royal Family, none of them are attractive.

LylaLee · 16/12/2023 12:10

35965a · 16/12/2023 11:11

There are plenty of fugly rich people. Even if a rich ugly man manages to bag a beautiful woman it doesn’t mean their kids will be beautiful too. Plenty of attractive people have ugly children and vice versa.

My point is that if they've been doing that since 1800, let's say 5 generations of beautiful wives in the mix, won't that have an impact?

Still wrong. They are called 'chinless wonders' for a reason. That's a joke, of course, but there's some truth to it. If you think about it, most top movie stars are people who come from normal backgrounds (I'm not counting this generation of nepo babies) Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Brad Pitt. None of them are generationally wealthy, yet it's safe to say that most people would say they were more attractive than the British Royal Family. And a generationally wealthy family, the Kardashian Jenners, are none of them remotely attractive without ten layers of makeup and fifteen filters.

Sususudio · 16/12/2023 12:13

I think you need to give an example of a rich family with 5 generations of beautiful wives. Off to Google the Gettys or the Rockefellers.

JamSandle · 16/12/2023 12:15

I disagree. Money makes you look more polished but beauty is everywhere. Poverty can erode beauty and money can keep it though.

Well, yes, there are plenty of good looking poor people who are young, but by middle and old aged you see the effects in people's looks.

KimberleyClark · 16/12/2023 11:19

I agree William was handsome when younger but he is rapidly losing his looks.

Anne when younger has the same face as William! She would be better looking if she hadn’t got completely stuck in her hair rut. She’s looked the same for decades. The hair is so aging and I’m sorry, it’s 2023! You can be both no-nonsense and the hard working one of the family AND use conditioner. Fucking hell.
