Following on ... strange things you do! AIBU?

So following on from a thread I read earlier where the op sucked a cup of hot tea until it was stuck around her face... AIBU to not be able to resist rubbing my cheek with a McDonald's cheeseburger bread. You know what I mean right? So soft and fluffy and just totally irresistible. It's really difficult not to do this every time but when I'm in the right company and people know, they know what's coming!! Go on and tell me the strange things you do that make you happy but nobody would understand!

Poll removed because I genuinely don't want any negatively on my cheeseburger face!

All my dogs have different accents and tones of voice depending on where they came from. They all have different jobs they like to talk about before they came to live with us(one used to be a tiler). DP and I have hours of fun talking to each other as if we were the dogs. Sad but amusing.

We do this too! Our dog is a potty mouthed Brummie. Love it.

My mum's got colour synesthesia. She used to think everyone was like that. Apparently my leg thing is a rare form of synesthesia too.

I keep wanting to come back to this thread with more examples of stuff I do but I'm starting to realise that there's fucking hundreds! 😂

One thing bothering me a lot at the moment is my sofa. There are two things wrong for me in this picture. Anyone want to play guess what they are?

No jokes about the boring grey please. I like it 😂

The two cushions lying down and the curtains coming in at the sides?

IncompleteSenten · 16/12/2023 18:42

Sorry. Forgot all about this! My sister's come over and we've been doing crochet and vodka all afternoon 😁

The sofa is in the correct place, exactly in line with the window but because of the Christmas tree I've had to turn the TV stand a bit so the gap that should be the same size as the gap on the other side between the sofa and the display cabinet has now disappeared.

I can either maintain even gaps but then the sofa will not be square with the window or I can have uneven gaps.

The curtains are the wrong length. I have no rational explanation like with the gap thing. I just know they're wrong.

When I had floor length they were wrong too. I can't figure it out beyond looking at it and knowing they're wrong.

IncompleteSenten · 16/12/2023 18:43

To clarify, the curtains are the wrong length for the sofa.

Yes. I know how that sounds.

I used to scramble up stairs on all fours. Totally impractical on public staircases, so had to force myself to do it upright, but at nearly 50, I still do.it at home when nobody is looking.
I grew out of this one, again practicality kind of forced it, but I used to find it impossible to go for a number two without reading something. As a kid, it was the label on the toilet cleaner as I wasn't allowed books in there, but as an adult I kept books in my home loo for years.

Reading features fairly high, to be honest. I reread books endlessly because I love knowing them inside out and knowing my favourite bits are coming up, but also love new books. I can't have a bath without reading in it. I don't have baths often now, but back when we only had a bath, no shower, I had a stack of 'bath books'.
It's always certain books as well. I have 'snack books' as I love to read whilst eating. If alone, I read whilst eating dinner. Breakfast isn't a communal meal in our house, so I read over my toast. I used to read at the breakfast table as a kid after making the reasoned argument that my parents read the paper, so why couldn't I read a book?

When I eat satsumas, I like to put the segments in size order, eat the smallest first by sucking the interior out, then chewing the segment skin.

because of this thread, I just danced with the dogs again. We (I ) put on youtube on the big tv.. Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles WHO SAID YOU CAN"T GO HOME.. sang and danced. Thanks for the reminder OP to have some fun!

If I get wax out of my ears, I always smell it before discarding it.

Evaka · 16/12/2023 20:19

I'm also a gulp counter, and a counter in general. If I'm doing a boring task I'll count slowly in my head - I think it stops me from getting impatient and giving up immediately.

Sometimes when I’m in the car I sort of imagine chopping down all the trees with a chainsaw as we go, I’ve got no idea why or where it came from but it’s such a weird habit now 😂 I’ve never told anyone it’s so weird!

I do this too, no idea why, I also see clouds as landforms surrounded by sea, as if you’re looking down from the top of a mountain.
I always count stairs and steps, lamp posts and streetlights (I think I actually automatically count a lot of things, including how many steps I’m doing when on a walk)

Schoolhelp23 · 16/12/2023 20:35

When I was a kid, I used to say something out loud, then mime whatever I'd said again (mouth moving but no sound). Couldn't tell you when or why it stopped, but was a weird habit!

Wishbone436 · 17/12/2023 09:40

@Namechangeforstrangethings omg! I do this! I was just trying to think how to explain it 🤣 I do it with coats too, some materials work better than others! Literally sat with my coat on my knee now, doing this while reading these!

Wishbone436 · 17/12/2023 09:46

@pencilvrspen @PatchworkWellies yup! I do both of these too!

milesmachine · 17/12/2023 10:08

One is traffic lights. I'm convinced I can estimate when a red light will turn green and often guess how many seconds and then count to them. I find it difficult to move on if I haven't finished counting yet and the light turned green before I got to 0

I also do the toenail ripping thing someone else mentioned. Have hardly any toenails and would pull them off completely if I do. I find if I'm a little stressed I need to pick at them and it makes me feel so much better

Kezzy16 · 17/12/2023 20:01

Ha ha love this thread I have so many

i love the smell of feet especially the dogs

my daughter has bad ear wax and I find it satisfying checking ears to which I brought a camera that helps pull the wax out, i was like a big kid 🤣

I also like pulling toe nails off and playing around with the clipping 🙈 until I throw them

dipping quavers in tea

kids think I’m a weirdo (I totally am 🤣)
