So following on from a thread I read earlier where the op sucked a cup of hot tea until it was stuck around her face... AIBU to not be able to resist rubbing my cheek with a McDonald's cheeseburger bread. You know what I mean right? So soft and fluffy and just totally irresistible. It's really difficult not to do this every time but when I'm in the right company and people know, they know what's coming!! Go on and tell me the strange things you do that make you happy but nobody would understand!

Poll removed because I genuinely don't want any negatively on my cheeseburger face!

I have never yet lit fire without smelling the firefighter.

Please tell us you mean firelighter? Though I love the idea of you meaning firefighter 👩‍🚒

😂

momager1 · 15/12/2023 04:20

I put on loud music and dance with my dogs. They are standard poodles and dance like they are in a circus.. on hinds with their paws out front. I do the same thing, jumping at the same time with my arms out and curled up. A big human poodle. Busted once by my husband who nearly peed himself laughing. Don't care, not ashamed, we were having fun lol.

Mothership4two · 15/12/2023 04:50

I sing, hum and talk to myself in the supermarket. I know I look like a nutter but I don't care. I actually hate shopping, so I wonder if on a subconscious level I am trying to jolly myself along.

When I am cooking I have my music up loud and dance around the kitchen which is probably not very safe at times. @momager1 reminded me of when I used to dance holding my two old cats (RIP) that liked to be held and cuddled (not at the same time!). My current cat isn't so keen so I have to dance solo while he watches on.

millypeggyandpandora · 15/12/2023 04:59

I do a lot of these, mirror accents, talk to animals, count weird things etc. I also love cat and small dogs wet noses. I love touching them with the back of my hand. Funnily, I don’t do this with big dog noses. 🤪
Also belly buttons make me feel queasy. I never touch mine and can’t watch anybody else touching theirs

clingon1012 · 15/12/2023 05:02

I like to scratch/pick at the bumpy skin (chicken skin?) on my and my husband's upper arms 😅😅😅

SpicyNoodleSoup · 15/12/2023 05:31

I twiddle clothes labels in my tops and find it incredibly soothing. Started when I was a small child and I used to carry around a specific bit of ribbon but as I got older I moved on to clothes labels.
It's the first thing I check when I get new clothes. I actually have preferred brands of clothes, not for the style but because of the labels they use. Dare2b for example has great large double labels that are perfect for twiddling 😂

nothingcomestonothing · 15/12/2023 08:39

The feeling whether washing is dry by touching it on your face - I was taught to do this when working in a hospital laundry as a student! I always thought it was a pro tip, maybe the person who trained me just had a thing for doing it Shock

Fairysteps11 · 15/12/2023 08:44

I slightly lick my cups/glasses before I take a drink. I also sniff these along with plates, dishes etc before I use them.

When I worry I hold my left boob with my right hand.

I touch my nose with my lips to prove to myself that I'm cold.

I can't sit on a chair with my feet on the floor. Even at work I sit on my legs.

I gip when I have to use an unknown toilet seat and unless it's very known, I hover.

SantaExpress · 15/12/2023 10:12

Yes to these:
Hating belly buttons (mine or anyone else’s, and DSs when he was newborn… sticky-out, & all bloody, just yuck)
Hold my boob as a self-comforting thing

I think I was perhaps taught the holding the dry washing to my face, it makes sense as you’d feel damp there better than with your hands.

Sitting on my legs.. I’m short and very often my legs don’t reach the floor comfortably, so I’ve folded my legs underneath me for as long as I remember. Midwife used to tell me off about it, when I was pregnant!

My friend has a daft one… She can’t and won’t drive unless the sun visor is down!! No matter what the weather, day or night!🤷‍♀️

😅 Oops!! Yes it's the fire LIGHTER that I smell!

SinnerBoy · 15/12/2023 11:41

You've just reminded me that my 8 year old daughter licked a firelighter. Apparently, they taste awful and even lots of swilling with milk didn't help for ages.

All my fault, of course!

I like to twist and stroke my hair with my right hand when im watching tv, and particularly twisting it into a pretzel shape/loose knot and leaving it there so ive got a pretzel fringe.

I also count gulps, my favoured receptacles all hold exactly 7.

I twist my hair all the time, I like to rub my dogs ear. I used to work for someone that ate sponges

And we’re all sure we’re neurotypical yes? So many of these answers just… aren’t 😂

I'm not. I'm autistic. DX as an adult after both my sons were DX as toddlers and the people working with them started raising the possibility.
Repeatedly. 😁

828Pax · 15/12/2023 23:05

I love constantly searching through my hair to find any dry skin to pick (or even better if I find scabs - but only in my hair)

I sometimes just stick one of my arms straight up in the air and can sit with it like that for a long time, I find it really
relaxing. One time I came across a
post on Facebook and loads of people
said they also did it - I was amazed! My cousin then saw my comment and text me to say that she has always done it too!

LeggyLegsEleven · 15/12/2023 23:05

I like to put my hand just inside my trousers or pants and have the feel of the elastic over the back of my bed. I often go to sleep like this.

KeeefBurtain · 14/12/2023 23:07

I use a nitty gritty to scrape the psoriasis off my head until it bleeds - the satisfaction of getting a huge plaque is immense.

I twiddle my pubes when I’m reading.

I scratch my arms and legs really hard before I get in the bath so that i get that stinging feeling when I first get in the water.

I have one eyebrow hair that doesn’t stop growing so I leave it until it gets really long then snip it off to play with.

I chew my toenail clippings.

I can’t use metal cutlery so use plastic ikea picnic ones (only the red) but my spoon is a light purple petit filous one I got in my bounty pack 7 years ago.

I twiddle mine when I'm watching TV 🤣🙈

Also I can't visualise running in my head without my legs getting tangled 🤣

I gave birth 7 weeks ago and my craving was chewing bath and/or kitchen sponges. I thought it would disappear like it did with the last pregnancy but nope! I pulled a new one out for the washing up earlier and one for me 😂

I've heard this a few times before! It's a pretty common pregnancy thing apparently?! Not judging but the thought of it makes my skin crawl, although I'm sure you chew on clean ones.

This was my craving too with 3/4 babies!

I don’t think this is that strange but my teenager says it’s embarrassing. I love to trolley surf in the supermarket, I wait until the aisle is clear so as not to crash into anyone then floor it! Jump down near the end and walk on like nothing has happened. I also do this when I’m by myself, makes me happy.

I do this with the trolleys.

I also love plucking hairs - eyebrows, my one chin hair etc. When DH has a bit of stubble sometimes he gets one that is really really thick like three hairs fused together so basically like a twig and I absolutely love finding them and plucking them.

I also can't help sort of imitating other people's accents (very badly) and worry they'll think I'm taking the piss.

I also have colour and shape synethesia (have probably misspelt that) but only very very specifically for days of the week - they have a specific colour and shape - eg Wednesday is a green triangle, always has been (it always only quite recently that I discovered most people don't in fact see the days of the week as a colour and shape).

This thread is fascinating. It's interesting how the majority of these are very sensory if that makes sense. My theory has always been though that everyone is secretly very weird and the trick is finding other people or another person that you feel comfortable and accepted enough to just let all your wonderful weirdness out.

i thought I had this too, but me and my sister were talking and both had the same colour for each day of the week.

We think we figured it out though - when we were younger we had a ‘days of the week’ knickers and vest set which had a different colour trim for each day, so thinking it could be that!

From when I was a baby, I would hold my parents ears, especially to go to sleep. Loved sucking on them too. Now I hold my husband’s ear (not to go to sleep) I love the cold feeling. If they are not cold, I don’t hold. Also love to feel the cold zip of coats etc between my midddle finger and pointer. Nowadays I have by my bed, 2 beaded bracelets and a metal fidget toy I touch to feel the cold. Used to scrunch my top lip to my nose like someone else on here mentioned. Stopped doing this when I was about 11 when I realised it looks odd to people. Love picking at my scalp or splitting split hairs when I have them. Can do that for hours I think.
my husband fiddles with his eyebrow hair. Pretty sure we are neurodivergent (not for just these reasons only)

I used to love this too but dh got so annoyed with it he made me stop!
