Following on ... strange things you do! AIBU?

So following on from a thread I read earlier where the op sucked a cup of hot tea until it was stuck around her face... AIBU to not be able to resist rubbing my cheek with a McDonald's cheeseburger bread. You know what I mean right? So soft and fluffy and just totally irresistible. It's really difficult not to do this every time but when I'm in the right company and people know, they know what's coming!! Go on and tell me the strange things you do that make you happy but nobody would understand!

Poll removed because I genuinely don't want any negatively on my cheeseburger face!

I fold my ears. I fold the top bit down into the - dunno what it's called, shell bit. Then fold the lobe over that bit. Then just sit there holding it for a minute, then do the other ear. No idea why!

Me too. I fold the top of my ear right into my ear hole. The right ear stays in, the left one does not. So bloody annoying.

And there is nothing nicer than when the top of my ear is cold and I fold it in!

Toesaresoweird · 14/12/2023 17:40

I love these threads because I feel less like a weirdo.
I do some strange things. I eat grapes in twos. I stroke the awful hair under my chin when I'm on my own, completely love hate, it's due to peri but it comforts me too. Then I realise I need to wax it in case I do the stroking in public and scare a small child.
I can't walk up stairs I run. I don't know why. Sometimes I miss a step out all the way up.
I smell clean washing, a lot.
I bit the flannel as a kid.
When I pull an ingrown out. I lay it on tissue and look at it. For ages. Like it's some thing of beauty.
If someone speaks to me with a strong accent I can feel myself copying them and want to die.
I'm quite possibly ND.

I can do that.

I play with my belly-button until I sneeze.

eldorado02 · 14/12/2023 19:02

I can only chew food in equal size bites divided between the two sides of the mouth.

So, I eat a roast dinner by cutting a piece of chicken and adding a piece of potato or stuffing or veg etc, chew it on the right side of my mouth (has to start on the right), then make an equal forkful with the exact same proportions and chew that on the left.

I must finish on the left and each mouthful must be equal.

If I have an odd number of something, such as crisps, I will bite the last one in half so both sides get the same.

It gets even more complicated when there’s a built-in degree of diversity. So, to use a packet of skittles as an example, I try to eat them in colour pairs, ie a green on the right followed by a green on the left. If that’s not possible as there aren’t matching pairs of colours, I try to eat them as closely colour matched as possible, such as orange with red or blue with green etc.

This habit was a nightmare after I had my wisdom teeth removed from the right side of my mouth, as I had to chew exclusively on the left for a couple of weeks. My brain was not pleased!

I gave birth 7 weeks ago and my craving was chewing bath and/or kitchen sponges. I thought it would disappear like it did with the last pregnancy but nope! I pulled a new one out for the washing up earlier and one for me 😂

Oh my god. I had this. I used to sit pregnant in the bath with a sponge in my mouth like a weirdo. I thought it was just me!!

thanks Macandcheese you have made my day!

Coatscoatscoast · 14/12/2023 19:12

When I finish a wee, I have to clench my pelvic floor, quite often to a phrase or the line of a song (in my head), one clench for each syllable. At the same time I tense each toe. I have to repeat this until I’ve completed a multiple of ten, ie ending on the last toe. I realise this sounds mental, but I do have a very strong pelvic floor as a result!!

Macandcheeese · 14/12/2023 19:18

I'm so glad the sponge thing is recognisable! I know it could be pica, especially since it hasn't gone away after baby. I also experience asmr and spent hours in the bath, relaxing watching sponge videos. Used to love the scrub daddy ones 🤤
ETA I don't actually swallow the sponge, just chew on it

Thank you, I've never known anyone else who does it! Neither of mine stay in on their own though, that'd be awesome. And yes I do it more when my ears are cold, it's just... right.

MaBellOnDaLoose · 14/12/2023 19:34

I used to enjoy stroking my solitary chin hair. It's not grown back and I miss it.

There's an automatic door at work that can be a little slow to open, so if no one's around, I snap my fingers at it to pretend I'm magic.

I love running up the stairs and swinging round the bannister (also at work). Only been spotted twice.

Oh, when my nose is cold, I have to fold back the bit above my lip to touch the cold tip of my nose.

And I've just realised what a weirdo I am 🤣

I also mirror the accent of whoever I'm talking to which is so embarrassing. I don't notice I'm doing it until it's too late.

And whenever I see someone get hurt or they tell me about it I get sharp shooting pains up both legs.

Oh gosh I do this too. It's out before I can stop it. It can come over as rude I think 🙈

I Count lots of stuff. I have diagnosed OCD. Have you ever heard of arithmomania?

FLOWER1982 · 14/12/2023 21:16

I like to pull my hair out. Hair washing is best as loads normally comes out. I have super thick hair luckily.

@Macandcheeese omg totally get the sponge thing......chewing and sucking on a wet sponge 😍 lol......

Late pregnancy I had a craving for chewing wet flannels. It just felt so good on my back teeth.

4 years later I still like doing it.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 14/12/2023 21:30

My 8 month old has soft cute feet. Sweaty too. Smell like vinegar sometimes and clammy.

I can’t help smelling them 😂

muddlingthrou · 14/12/2023 21:32

Picking the eyebrow gel out of my eyebrows every night. Ooh it's so bloody satisfying!

TheUltima · 14/12/2023 22:00

I rub my tongue on the roof of my mouth until I sneeze

Well, I'm low carbing at the moment so having neither sandwiches nor toast so used to is probably how I should describe it.

Oh, me too. I've lost 13 kilos since the end of August. Good luck to you!

TheFoz · 14/12/2023 22:17

I sniff my wrist where my watch sits, it’s slightly sweaty smelling.

i do both these things too, and also the stroking door handles! 😁

SabbatWheel · 14/12/2023 22:27

I count things often…steps as I’m walking, clock ticks, 1-100 as many times as possible to get me to sleep etc. I’m a musician and the counting always happens rhythmically to a pulse.

MegBusset · 14/12/2023 22:37

I do the ear folding thing too.
I step on (not avoid) cracks in the pavement and have to step on the same amount with my left and right foot.
If I see a word or short phrase written down eg on a billboard or sign then my brain automatically divides the number of letters - eg into three lots of five for a fifteen-word phrase. Is more pleasing if there’s a symmetry to how this appears and especially if divisible multiple ways. Prime numbers are no good 😁

TheCosyRain · 14/12/2023 22:37

Namechangeforstrangethings · 14/12/2023 15:08

I like to fiddle with the edge of a sheet and fold it round on itself to form little sharp corners or points and then feel the sharpness with my fingers. I’m obsessively addicted to it and I don’t know why but it’s very soothing! I’ve done it most of my life.

Is that weird and I’m interested to know if anyone else does it.

I do this! I also fold it into a crease and run it under my nails

MegBusset · 14/12/2023 22:38

Also pull eyelashes which I know isn’t good and can be ocd related

CipherEcho · 14/12/2023 22:41

i talk to myself at times helps me strategize, usually when no one is around, although sometimes you can not be sure so im sure people have been puzzled at times.

Moneyworrier123 · 14/12/2023 22:41

Sometimes when I’m in the car I sort of imagine chopping down all the trees with a chainsaw as we go, I’ve got no idea why or where it came from but it’s such a weird habit now 😂 I’ve never told anyone it’s so weird!
