So following on from a thread I read earlier where the op sucked a cup of hot tea until it was stuck around her face... AIBU to not be able to resist rubbing my cheek with a McDonald's cheeseburger bread. You know what I mean right? So soft and fluffy and just totally irresistible. It's really difficult not to do this every time but when I'm in the right company and people know, they know what's coming!! Go on and tell me the strange things you do that make you happy but nobody would understand!

Poll removed because I genuinely don't want any negatively on my cheeseburger face!

I always get into bed wearing socks, so that I can almost immediately remove them and enjoy the feel of the sheets on my feet.

BrendaMcPherson · 14/12/2023 14:27

When I've just shaved my legs, I encourage my cats to rub up against them. Such a lovely feeling!

He was a plasterer too but I didn't want to brag...

BloodandGlitter · 14/12/2023 14:56

When I'm pushing a pram I can't hold the handles like a normal human but I make like dinosaur claws and hold the handles between my first and middle fingers.

I also do this! It feels like a lovely treat just rubbing the sheets on your bare feet. I hate wearing socks feet prisons though so it doesn't happen often.

I like to fiddle with the edge of a sheet and fold it round on itself to form little sharp corners or points and then feel the sharpness with my fingers. I’m obsessively addicted to it and I don’t know why but it’s very soothing! I’ve done it most of my life.

Is that weird and I’m interested to know if anyone else does it.

BetteDavisChin · 14/12/2023 15:41

I stroke my arm very lightly, until it tickles, then I scratch it. Repeat until distracted by life.

longtompot · 14/12/2023 16:07

I knew from your title it would be a link to the cup face suction thread. I actually do that, and it is nice. I've not done it for a while. I think I usually wait until the mug is empty or almost and not have my nose touch the liquid though.

I also mirror the accent of whoever I'm talking to which is so embarrassing. I don't notice I'm doing it until it's too late.

And whenever I see someone get hurt or they tell me about it I get sharp shooting pains up both legs.

OMG I do this I also mirror the language of the book I'm reading when I speak and write. Gets a bit odd if I'm reading period literature tbh.

Laiste · 14/12/2023 16:17

I like to stroke smooth chocolate over my top lip before eating it.

I adore the smell of new things and habitually sniff things before i even look at them (xmas presents ect)(my grown up DDs have this too)

I like to pull all the hairs out of my nostrils with tweezers and like it when it hurts.

Friendfoe1 · 14/12/2023 16:22

I often sit biting the end of my tongue, not too hard obviously but it does slightly hurt 🤣

I like to pull my toenails off. If I could I’d pull the whole nail off. ect ect

I once looked after a man in his 20s who had a circumcision. He still lived at home but was too embarrassed to tell his parents what he had had done. He told them that we’d removed his big toe nail. I had to bandage his toe for him,

I scan read this as the man wanted a circumcision but you took his toe nail off instead !! 😲😂

Laiste · 14/12/2023 16:35

Oh - and i LOVE the very specific smell of dust burning on old heaters when you turn them on. Oil heaters, or old radiators ect.

I know it stems from when i was small and staying at my nan's Fulham town house and she had one of those old tall cylinder gas heaters in the spare room. No central heating. The smell of it and the gentle glow of the little flame at the bottom 😊

I can stick my finger up my nose and there’s a certain point that means I can make myself sneeze 🤣🤦‍♀️

I can do that.

I do this but on my forehead. You get the BEST tingles and the most amazing scratch feeling on the forehead.

IncompleteSenten · 14/12/2023 16:42

I'm started to get worried about how many I'm thinking of now!

When I pluck hairs out (eyebrows, 🤬 moustache hairs) I touch the bulb bit to my top lip. It feels sharp and a bit wet.

Oh God, I do this!! It's become a thing around the office. I put the phone down, and people laughingly say 'Paula, was that person Scottish?' I totally can't help it, even though I can hear myself doing it. I don't think it is true echopraxia?

I like to stroke DH's arm backwards, if you see what I mean, against the way the hairs grow. It makes him shiver but he lets me do it.

After I have sharpened a pencil I like to prick the ball of a finger or thumb with it, not so hard it draws blood though!

munchmagic · 14/12/2023 17:13

@PaulaPocket and @IncompleteSenten It's echolalia that you're describing with the accents. It's relatively common in autism and adhd but can also present in other presentations as well. My mum does the same thing as does my best friend. I find it really a endearing trait cos of it being something two of my loved ones do.

kneesdonthurt · 14/12/2023 17:20

If a dog gives me a friendly bark I say 'woof, woof' back to it...just in case that means something in dog language. I wouldn't want to be rude and ignore a friendly greeting. Grin

Tukmgru · 14/12/2023 17:24

I pull up a bit of the duvet cover so that it’s just the cover - no duvet - and use that little bit of cover to stroke between my 2nd and 3rd toe. No idea when it started, don’t know why it’s those toes, but it is such an automatic thing I do now and I get annoyed if the duvet cover is too tight on the duvet and I can’t pull a bit up.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/12/2023 17:28

I like to stand in the shower with one arm resting on the other behind my back. It's the only time it's comfortable standing like this.

I meow to the cat, and she answers back. We have quite long chats sometimes.
