So following on from a thread I read earlier where the op sucked a cup of hot tea until it was stuck around her face... AIBU to not be able to resist rubbing my cheek with a McDonald's cheeseburger bread. You know what I mean right? So soft and fluffy and just totally irresistible. It's really difficult not to do this every time but when I'm in the right company and people know, they know what's coming!! Go on and tell me the strange things you do that make you happy but nobody would understand!

Poll removed because I genuinely don't want any negatively on my cheeseburger face!

I gave birth 7 weeks ago and my craving was chewing bath and/or kitchen sponges. I thought it would disappear like it did with the last pregnancy but nope! I pulled a new one out for the washing up earlier and one for me 😂

My mum and my sister both had that exact same craving.
Tbh I thought they were winding me up at first then I heard a couple more people saying it.
It's a weird one alright

IncompleteSenten · 14/12/2023 11:50

I have lots of little things I do. Some of them I don't really notice until they're pointed out to me and others i do.

Apparently I always stroke door handles as I walk through the door.

I can only use specific cutlery as it has to feel right in my hand. I've tried to use others and I can't choke my food down! I can't eat off a plate, only from a bowl and out of the 4 styles of bowls we have I can only use one.

Before I became housebound I had to fuel up to a 0 or a 5 and if I went over I had to carry on until the next 0 or 5.

I bought a new mobile phone two years ago and I can't use it because it feels wrong so I'm using my old one that has to be constantly on charge because the battery is fucked.

Toilet rolls have to be under not over to the point I have to change them if they're the wrong way round. When I used to go to other people's houses I'd swap them round to use them then swap them back when I was done because I was aware it was batcrap crazy.

I always have to count. Going up and down stairs, when doing all manner of stuff.

I flap my fingers and don't realise until someone points it out.

Everything has to be arranged in a very specific order. I've swapped books for a kindle now but before I did my books had to be arranged by genre and by size within genre.

I could go on all day but I think you get the picture 😁

I regularly try to do things the wrong way to try to change myself but I end up either getting so angry or really upset.

Elodieboop · 14/12/2023 11:52

I really like that feeling where if you have a raw bit of skin on your hand, and you run it under a hot tap until it sort of feels like it's starting to burn - but in a nice way.

IncompleteSenten · 14/12/2023 11:52

I also mirror the accent of whoever I'm talking to which is so embarrassing. I don't notice I'm doing it until it's too late.

And whenever I see someone get hurt or they tell me about it I get sharp shooting pains up both legs.

mrmagpie · 14/12/2023 12:04

I smell the (clean!) washing. I'm not sure why I do it and don't think I was even aware of it until I was folding some laundry and my husband asked why I was smelling each garment. I'm not worried about them not being clean or smelling bad or anything, there is literally no purpose to it!

Sequinne · 14/12/2023 12:06

I love smelling my face cloth after I’ve washed my face. It just smells amazing, I can’t describe it very well but it’s soapy, abit lemony, warm, fresh & clean. I wish there was a perfume exactly like my face cloth after I’ve washed my face!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/12/2023 12:11

I chew face flannels - especially the thick bit around the edge, and bonus points for when it's hot and slightly soapy... also sniffing the cupboard under the sink when it smells chemically and bleachy and soapy. Also flapping (a bit) and (slightly ashamed of this one because I work in retail and it makes bringing the trolleys in from outside my favourite bit)...making 'weeeee' and car engine noises when pushing a line of trolleys.

There. I said it.

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2023 12:19

Since I was six or seven, I've had to eat sandwiches in 8 bites per half; four rows of four bites. When I was first given one cut diagonally, I was distressed, until I worked out that I could bite the apex, then have two bites, then five, so as to have 8 even sized bites.

I've no idea why I do it.

allabitmadtbf · 14/12/2023 12:25

All my dogs have different accents and tones of voice depending on where they came from. They all have different jobs they like to talk about before they came to live with us(one used to be a tiler). DP and I have hours of fun talking to each other as if we were the dogs. Sad but amusing.

meeplesmarples · 14/12/2023 12:31

I only eat from bowls, not plates, and I definitely have a preferred style of bowl.

I also do not enjoy hot drinks, which baffles some people. I remember the sheer horror in one colleague's voice when she found out I don't drink tea or coffee: "But what do you DRINK?"

ImthatBoleyngirl · 14/12/2023 12:35

Is it weird that I do 90% of everything mentioned on this thread?!!

I like how my gearstick fits in my hand, and I love to drive EXACTLY between the lines of the road. It's really satisfying.

Cute things (like my dog) make me grit my teeth together, really hard.

Another one is falling asleep sucking a mint imperial or other sucky sweet. I know it's really bad and I don't do it often, but it's really soothing. I should probably just get a dummy 🤣

The smell of vacuum cleaners.

YouAreBeingUnbearable · 14/12/2023 12:53

Slotting my finger into the crease where my kids’ toes meet their foot sole. It fits perfectly (kids 3 and 6) and I’ll be sad when they no longer let me/the crease doesn’t hug my finger 🤣

nothingcomestonothing · 14/12/2023 13:02

I fold my ears. I fold the top bit down into the - dunno what it's called, shell bit. Then fold the lobe over that bit. Then just sit there holding it for a minute, then do the other ear. No idea why!

Canwedoit4 · 14/12/2023 13:03

Absolutely love these! So funny how everyone has their little quirks that make them feel happy or comforted! I hate colour, I am the most boring person ever I love Grey and Creams and if I am sat in a room decorated in bright colours it all looks mismatched and makes me feel a bit stressed!

This made me think of another, I love going to sleep with a toe separator on.
The sensation of my toes not touching each other is LUSH.
(sometimes when my mrs gives me a foot rub I ask her to pull my little toe away from the bunch HARD, which makes her shudder but its soooo relaxing)

NightmareGirl · 14/12/2023 13:21

I’m going to end up doing this now.

Mazuslongtoenail · 14/12/2023 13:24

Sholkedabemus · 14/12/2023 02:04

I like to pull my toenails off. If I could I’d pull the whole nail off. It gives me a nice feeling when I get a decent bit off. I used to work in minor theatre and I loved any procedures where we removed toenails.

As an aside, I once looked after a man in his 20s who had a circumcision. He still lived at home but was too embarrassed to tell his parents what he had had done. He told them that we’d removed his big toe nail. I had to bandage his toe for him, he even went out limping when his mum collected him. Bless.

I might agree with you on the toenail thing🤫

My immediate thought on reading OP, was
"Ooh sucking a sponge "! Also my pregnancy craving (35yrs ago!👀) and although much calmer, still there!

Mazuslongtoenail · 14/12/2023 13:26

I sleep one way in bed when I’m happy / content / positive and the reverse if I’m restless / sad / worried.

Its probably quite a useful barometer of my mood for DH - whether he gets my face or feet on the pillow next to him.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 14/12/2023 13:29

Finding a 'crinkly' hair on my head and having to fiddle with it and trying to remove it. Once found I CANT leave it alone!

15PiecesOfFlair · 14/12/2023 13:33

Sometimes I can't tell if laundry is completely dry unless I press it to just above my top lip. It's super sensitive for telling if something is damp!

I do similar.

I have to cut sandwiches or toast into pieces, a smaller piece and a larger piece. Then I cut the crusts off.
I eat the crusts first, then the smaller piece then the larger piece.

If I try to be 'normal' I just end up biting the crusts off then ripping the rest into uneven pieces.

Well, I'm low carbing at the moment so having neither sandwiches nor toast so used to is probably how I should describe it.

IfColoursHatedMe · 14/12/2023 13:58

One that annoys my husband - I cannot bite into a sandwich without opening it to have a look first. No idea what I'm looking for. Doesn't matter if it's a burger from mcdonald's or a plain ham sandwich my husband has just made me, I have to lift the top and have a quick peek inside.

He always grumbles and asks if I think he's trying to poison me.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 14/12/2023 14:15

For the sponge chewers among us, this might be of interest…!

Mine is that I hum when I’m busy and happy. Apparently I do this in the office. It must be incredibly annoying for my colleagues, although the one who pointed it out said she did so because she finds it uplifting. She didn’t work directly for me so wasn’t sucking up…

The filet o fish buns are much softer than the cheeseburger buns FYI.
Never rubbed one on my face though. My weird thing is probably ordering filet o fish in the first place.
