Do you watch TV on Xmas Day?

Do any guests object to this?

OP posts:
Ibizabar · 13/12/2023 18:00

Yes, no one's ever objected.

Sparklesocks · 13/12/2023 18:00

Only eastenders 😄

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 13/12/2023 18:00

Doctor Who and Call the Midwife Christmas Specials and if anyone doesn't like it they are banished to another room.

We might also watch a film.

Rocknrollstar · 13/12/2023 18:00

We don’t have any guests, our choice. One Xmas Day we binge watched Criminal Minds, drank champagne and ate pizza. Best Xmas Day ever.

Christmastwine · 13/12/2023 18:00

We have dvds playing before and after dinner, no one objects.

EVHead · 13/12/2023 18:02

There would be mutiny if I didn’t let my mum watch the King’s Christmas speech.

We'll watch some TV but not much.

whyayepetal · 13/12/2023 18:02

MissBuffyAnneSummers - same here!

FreshWinterMorning · 13/12/2023 18:03

Not sure whether to vote YABU or YANBU so didn't pick either one.

We 100% DO watch TV on Christmas day. Me and DH visit relatives from 10am to around 1.30pm (4 different lots - for about half hour to 40 minutes each) and then we come home - and we spend the rest of the day alone together. The TV is on from when we get in to when we go to bed. (Apart from the hour and a half when we are having our Christmas meal... at around 6-7.30pm.)

Our kids - who are grown, have left home. Having the day to ourselves after 1.30pm is utter bliss. Grin

DaveDidIt · 13/12/2023 18:04

No. We have music on instead.
We don't have guests, so no complaints.

MilkChocolateCookie · 13/12/2023 18:05

If MIL was with us we'd have to watch the King's speech, but she's not so probably not.

DuvetCovers · 13/12/2023 18:05

No. I watched the King last year just out of interest but usually not even that. Christmas Day is a busy day for us.

SharonEllis · 13/12/2023 18:06

We usually agree on a fun programme to watch together in the evening. Some christmasses the kids have watched some of a christmss film while adults are busy in the kitchen (now they are older they will help). Would never just have the tv on in the background. We listen to music & xmas, chat, play with presents etc.

GymBergerac · 13/12/2023 18:06

Just DH and me on Christmas Day. We have music on most of the morning whilst we're having breakfast and opening pressies and deciding if we can be bothered to cook anything.... 😂
Telly on for King's Speech and then we usually find a daft film or two.

stayathomer · 13/12/2023 18:06

Always get a game show in or morcambe and wise or something!

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/12/2023 18:06

I was never allowed to as a child. My parents hated tv (apart from the news).

I still an appalling sense in f guilt when the tv is on. Christmas Day post lunch I put it off as long as I can.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/12/2023 18:07

Nope. We have around 10 people there (family friends) and spend the day chatting, opening presents, eating, playing games, listening to music.

We might occasionally watch a stand up comedy in the evening when the little children have gone to bed but that is rare.

tulippa · 13/12/2023 18:08

No not here. Presents, food, conversation and board games for us. If I sit down in front of the TV after all that food and drink I just fall asleep!

megletthesecond · 13/12/2023 18:08

Yes. It's on in the background.
Never have guests.

TheChosenTwo · 13/12/2023 18:10

No, it doesn’t go on at all on Christmas Day.
It’s not a rule but the dc don’t really watch telly (ds watches football), dh is the main telly fan but on Christmas Day he’s too busy. We have a house full and anyone would be welcome to put on a tv if they wanted to watch it but no one ever has!
Christmas is a really busy day for us, we have music on.

dottypotter · 13/12/2023 18:10

Yes we do. When younger and growing up, we played games in the evening. That was the tradition no TV in the evening.

NoNoNanette · 13/12/2023 18:10

I don't understand this 'guests object' thing. Guests in someone's house don't have the right to 'object' to anything their host wants to do.

Madameprof · 13/12/2023 18:12

Very rarely. We have music on, play games when not eating or opening presents. Maybe watch a film or xmas Dr Who in the evening.

Gwenhwyfar · 13/12/2023 18:13

Of course.

Any guests you have on Christmas Day will be family and good friends so no need to switch it off.

We even gave it in while eating, which I would prefer not, but my parents' choice.

Oldraver · 13/12/2023 18:14

Dr Who and Call the Midwife (assume they are on this year)

I have never watched the speech

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/12/2023 18:16

No, we don't. Children used to watch in the morning when there wasn't a lot to do because adults were sorting dinner, and we don't open presents till after dinner.
