Do you watch TV on Xmas Day?

Do any guests object to this?

OP posts:
Gowlett · 13/12/2023 18:17

I don’t watch TV. But if I’m at my parents’ we’ll watch Only Fools And Horses. DS will probably watch a movie at home.

Doggymummar · 13/12/2023 18:19

We don't have TV but we will most likely have YouTube or netflix on

AuntieMarys · 13/12/2023 18:21

Might watch Netflix in the evening . But the TV is never on during the day

SirenSays · 13/12/2023 18:22

No tv at all during the day, thankfully. In the evening there will probably be a rubbish kids film on.

devildeepbluesea · 13/12/2023 18:23

No we don’t. It’s not a hard and fast rule or anything, but we’re usually too busy eating, drinking and playing games to bother.

bananaboats · 13/12/2023 18:25

Yes & we don't have guests so not an issue

ConstantRain · 13/12/2023 18:26

Only at the end of the day to wind down for a bit.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 13/12/2023 18:27

I have a nominated day, probably the 28th this year when I sit on my arse on the sofa all day and watch everything!

BettyBakesCakes · 13/12/2023 18:28

Not really during the day but usually goes on around tea time ish

Soccermumamir · 13/12/2023 18:29

Yes it's usually on in the background, but on the evening I like to watch the NBA 🙂🏀

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/12/2023 18:29

Never. I’m 52. Parents never did so I never have either. Too much going on.

UsingChangeofName · 13/12/2023 18:30

Don't know how to vote as don't know what you are asking if YABU about or not.

On the years we've had guests, or we have been guests, then it doesn't tend to go on in the day - usually will in the evening.
If we are here, just the people that live in the house, then it might go on mid afternoon / after dinner is we don't go out for a walk because I don't like walking in the rain.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 13/12/2023 18:31

Not really, the DC might have it on for a bit before guests arrive but if anything a film.

DeeCeeCherry · 13/12/2023 18:32

No. We eat, chat, have music in background etc. I might go off to another room and watch Bridgerton special as I heard that's on Christmas day but thats it, although Im more likely to watch it on catch up next day

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/12/2023 18:33

We have music all day. Radio in the morning then a Christmas
playlist on Spotify when guests arrive. We’ll play games later so no time for T V. We will record stuff though.

MassageForLife · 13/12/2023 18:36

We used to, but with the advent of steaming services, there's nothing in the w can't watch another day, so we play games and stuff and catch up with any TV we missed but want to see some other time.

If I had guests I don't think I would have it on -; it would feel rude given that TV really doesn't need to be watched live any more.

ASGIRC · 13/12/2023 18:42

No TV. Were just too busy. Loads of guests, so watching tv is not really an option.

Clarinet1 · 13/12/2023 18:52

In the days when I had more family around the Queen’s speech was a given and late afternoon and evening we might well have some kind of light entertainment/variety on or a film or two. This year it will be just me ( but that’s OK) so, amongst the nice food I’ve got planned, I’ll play it by ear for entertainment - not sure what’s on yet but I look forward to perusing the foible issue of Radio Times!

Clarinet1 · 13/12/2023 18:53

Oops - double issue obvs! (Although foible is also quite good!)

Flibbertygibbetty · 13/12/2023 18:57

No TV on Christmas day, usually play games. don’t usually put tv on if have guests. but if everyone’s slumping we might have a film on boxing day.

palmtreesoliveleaves · 13/12/2023 19:00

No TV on in our house on Christmas day whether we have guests or not. There's me, DH and 2 kids.

We have Christmas music on mostly and play games, eat, nap, and drink on loop all day.

StoatofDisarray · 13/12/2023 19:00

Yes because we don't have guests. If we did have a guest we would probably all collapse in front of the TV after dinner as usual but come to an amicable agreement over what to watch.

If you're mobile enough after the feast to play party games or have a sensible discussion you're doing Christmas wrong!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/12/2023 19:02

No we don’t. It’s not a hard and fast rule or anything, but we’re usually too busy eating, drinking and playing games to bother.

Same here. We don't ever do background tv any other time either. We watch films or series we want to watch, virtually never watch scheduled tv and don't switch the tv on unless it's to watch something specific. Never watched the Queen's/King's speech either!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/12/2023 19:03

If you're mobile enough after the feast to play party games or have a sensible discussion you're doing Christmas wrong!

Unless your game is Twister or something, I can't see how that would be a problem!

5foot5 · 13/12/2023 19:06

Oldraver · 13/12/2023 18:14

Dr Who and Call the Midwife (assume they are on this year)

I have never watched the speech

Yes they are both on and yes we will watch them

There will just be four of us though - DH and I, DD and FIL. We don't watch a huge amount of TV generally but on Christmas evening when we are all stuffed with food that is probably all we can manage.

TBH DH, DD and I would probably be happy playing a game but FIL isn't really in yo that sort of thing. However he tends to go to bad quite early (he's nearly 93)
