Do you watch TV on Xmas Day?

Do any guests object to this?

Absolutely. I don't ever have guests on Christmas day as my flat is too small to host a proper dinner.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/12/2023 21:50

Dr Who and Ghosts will be watched by me and DS.

WickerMam · 13/12/2023 22:10

No TV, though we might put a film on.

TheCatfordCat · 13/12/2023 22:13

I was a guest of my in-laws for 20-odd years and we didn't miss putting the TV on. I suspect even though we are just three now I don't think we'll put it on thus year either. I don't have a TV licence and I don't watch any terrestrial TV. I'd rather play board games on Christmas Day (though never Monopoly).

Aroundthewaygirl · 13/12/2023 22:22

Yes we do. Curl up on the sofa with a plate of food or a cup of tea and watch tv most of the day/night. Xmas isn’t a big deal for me so it’s just like another day off work.

No but I record all the good stuff and watch on boxing day .Always have people to visit and the a big family dinner which then becomes cocktails and games .

mydogisthebest · 13/12/2023 22:33

No, never watched any tv on Christmas Day in my almost 70 years.

We spend the day cooking for family (16 in total) then opening presents which takes quite a time as only one present at a time is opened, then usually games, lots of chatting and lots of laughs.

Me and DH record anything we are interested in watching

DC1888 · 13/12/2023 22:39

Remember as a kid circling all the shows listed on the Christmas edition of the Radio Times (which just about every household owned)...if this poll was done back then pretty much every answer would have been yes.

Watched the King's Speech last year out of curiosity (very odd not having Maam do it)...the big galoot wasn't too bad. Do like Christmas films so any Scrooge (1970 Albert Finney one) or Home Alone will have that on.

RobertaFirmino · 13/12/2023 23:06

The tv is generally on at our house. DH will watch any old shite. I just want to see the news at some point, a morning service and then EE/Corrie (Nish must DIE!). Always happy if there's a war film on too.

Fionaville · 13/12/2023 23:12

No, not really. It's on, but nobodies really watching. I wouldn't object to anybody actively watching it, but I'd think it was a boring way to spend Christmas day. We do all talk about what Christmas day specials we've got on record though.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 13/12/2023 23:19

Yes. However, when I was a kid in the 60s and we had Xmas at my Grandmother's Xmas Day TV was totally forbidden and that was fairly general, I think.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/12/2023 00:12

Not really but I also really hate Christmas Day tv after a big meal.

But I’ve also realised I hate having such a big meal with drink during the day - I want to have it in the evening another time.

Not in the 70's, no TV wasn't the general rule. there'd have been mutiny by the visiting teens (me included) if we couldn't have Christmas Top of the pops on. My GM liked the morning church service on.
Streaming services have changed things. There's no longer the pressure of having the one chance, until Easter to watch the films shown. Our meet ups don't include TV, but we all have devices.
