To ask how much cash you have?

For various reasons I’ve been thinking that I need to be able to have cash to hand in case of emergencies…
usually in my house we have about £20 or so between 3 adults…

how much cash could you actually lay your hands on tonight if the banking system went down?

OP posts:
Ladybughello · 12/12/2023 22:10

Maybe £2?

Whatthefnow · 12/12/2023 22:11

I have 75 euro to my name

Christmasisonitsway · 12/12/2023 22:12

About £15 maybe, if we raided DSs money box..coins she's had from her grandad 🤣

Dacadactyl · 12/12/2023 22:12

Actual cash - 85 quid.

80 of which is earmarked for money in cards for nieces and nephews at Christmas.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/12/2023 22:12

£200. And a few loose coins.

Ragwort · 12/12/2023 22:12

A lot more than that! I really dislike not having cash available.. I know it's old fashioned but I like the security of cash.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 12/12/2023 22:12

£60 but £30 lasted me months.

curlycat · 12/12/2023 22:13

We have £500 in a locked box for that very reason

idontlikealdi · 12/12/2023 22:13

I've got £35 in cash right now, only because my mum gave it to me for a present I bought for one of my kids on her behalf. Usually nothing.

HandyLittleGadget · 12/12/2023 22:13

I've got about £15 in my purse

NalafromtheLionKing · 12/12/2023 22:14

£21 but it’s unusual for me to carry so much (normally £0-£2).

HappyMavis · 12/12/2023 22:15

About 30p. If the banking system went down tonight (whatever that means) I'd probably just go to bed as usual. What would you be doing OP, inventing a new system of barter?

GideonSmideon · 12/12/2023 22:15

Maybe 800 At least. Always keep some in the OFRS and then some for music lessons, subs, anything school related inc nursery

Uurrjb · 12/12/2023 22:15

I have absolutely no cash cash…a few random euros in the car from tolls

money on the bank which would of course be no use come the apocalypse

Thepeopleversuswork · 12/12/2023 22:16

I always have a £20 note in my purse at all times just in case.

Beyond that and unless I know I will need cash (ie to pay the baby-sitter or a gardener) I don’t really see the point.

It’s so rare these days to actually need cash.

DontGoGran · 12/12/2023 22:16

About 40 pence, hadn't really thought about it... Should probably change that and keep £100 or so in the house.

Eta: I lied! DH has £60 for Christmas cards in his wallet, so we wouldn't be completely destitute.

barkingmel · 12/12/2023 22:16

maybe £45?

GideonSmideon · 12/12/2023 22:17

Oh and takeaways give loads more food for cash payers - the Chinese gives an extra starter, 2l of fizz, a main and a side for cash orders over £30

LakieLady · 12/12/2023 22:17

£37 and some small change.

Bertiesmum3 · 12/12/2023 22:17

My husband got £750 because his friend paid him back for something that my husband paid upfront for and I’ve got £100 in my purse for lunch tomorrow with my daughter and some loose change too

SENparenting · 12/12/2023 22:17

Rarely more than £5 in loose pennies! I almost never have need for cash.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/12/2023 22:18

Couple of hundred.

Richie23 · 12/12/2023 22:18

We always keep a couple of £1 coins in the car for swimming pool lockers and supermarket trolleys. And a small jar at home with random cash in, probably about £15 in there. And the odd coin in my purse. So maybe maximum £20!

DelilahJane · 12/12/2023 22:19

£1500 in a lock box , about £70 in a money bag in the kitchen. £15 in the pram bag and random loose coins plus a £5 note in the car.

I'm early 30s

ellecf21 · 12/12/2023 22:19

Probably about a tenner
