According to recent threads:

Everyone over the age of about 35 looks way younger, constantly mistaken for younger, doesn't have a line on their face yet despite never using suncream, and their nan only used bin juice on their face and smoked 80 fags a day but had beautiful skin at 103 years old.

Everyone had sex with their complete stranger dp within about 4 seconds of meeting them for the first time, their dp moved in that night and never left and they're coming up to 762 years of happy marriage now.

Everybody on here seems to earn 200k in some mysterious job that doesn't seem to exist, they can't quite explain what they do, but they worked their asses off to get to this level of seniority which involves them working 3 hours a week for 2 weeks a year.

Interested to hear any more.

75% of the population has ADHD.

Pretty much every Mumsnet poster starts a sentence with: "Well, I'm Autistic so.." before going on to describe their situation..
and almost nobody's child is born without SEN..

SunshineYay · 11/12/2023 06:35

On MN it's child abuse to make two same sex siblings share a bedroom and enrol them into state school. Everyone gives their dc huge house deposits.

Although their household is on 6 figures, they're still struggling financially (they refuse to cut down on expenses).

Everyone left home at 17 and travelled the world with their 30 year old boyfriend.

Mothers under 30 are basically teen mums and can't possibly have had a good education and career. They won't believe you if you say you have both. Older than 40 is normal to have your first child. There's also zero risks to the foetus if parents are old.

Cadbury and galaxy chocolate are 'vile' and nobody can enjoy them, you can only like Audrey's because they supply Fortnum and Mason.

Shannith · 11/12/2023 06:39

That women are hilarious, knowledgable and wise.

But... I've been on a few threads recently where I'm actualy an expert (niche) and the vast majority of the advice has been questionable and would have made the situation worse.

So I've learned that a lot of the responses are knee jerk and posters should bear that in mind.

Both were full of well meaning but not very considered advice.

But overall that this place is mostly great.

After the age of 20, most people no longer make friends or celebrate birthdays.

I’ll cut the crap, almost everyone lives in a fantasy world.

What a nasty thread. The sane title could have produced a really interesting response.

SnowSwan · 11/12/2023 06:58

Pregnant women can not be left alone at any point post-conception lest they randomly go into labour while alone and can't figure out what to do. This means DP/DHs must give up all hobbies, stop visiting family, say no to weekend breaks away with friends, and decline work Christmas parties.

3ofus3 · 11/12/2023 07:10

I've learned that if someone posts something regardless how touchy the subject is to them there will be 85% of judgy angry Karen's who are absolute perfect parents and are just perfect in every way 🤣 but would be the first person to say "be kind" 🫣

The inability to add to a thread but puffs out chest proudly and stands on their podium to show their moral high ground.

jemenfous37 · 11/12/2023 07:17

I've learnt that there will always be one who takes totally inappropriate offence at a lighthearted thread (as evidenced by those above who think this is a mean/nasty thread!)
Also, if a bear of very little brain is trying to goad you in response to your opinion and you are too grown up to engage, you are accused of flouncing off or being a coward!

Sorry I’m sure I’ll be judged as a “Karen” for saying this 😁 but I really think the term “Karen” is sexist and ageist all at once. (I do have a sense of humour, honest!)

Agree about the perfect parenting though!

If there's.ome thing you learn from MN, is that the sane thread title would inevitable produce these responses.

One thing I do like about these threads is how contradictory the responses are. Such as having a posts about "all MNs despise dogs" nestled next to another post that "all MNs love their digs more than their children"

PermanentTemporary · 11/12/2023 07:26

Approximately 90% of the population has diagnosed narcissism, apparently, especially if they ever seem less than ecstatic at spending time with the poster. However, nobody who is a narcissist has ever posted on here.

Animals are better than children and if they've made your life worse you should spend your entire day training them and your entire income on vets and behaviourists rather than concluding that you made a mistake in getting a dog.

lemonjuicer · 11/12/2023 07:35

Everyone gets jumped at by massive dogs every time they leave the house

SAHMs are lazy & stupid

Skinny people must be starving themselves

Everyone is a high earner but only shops at Aldi

The answer to all problems is get a cleaner or go to a spa

Christmas lights are the equivalent of having 1,000 torches shined directly at your corneas

No one has average children - they’re only ND and/or off to a top uni

Pooracoustics · 11/12/2023 07:35

That you have to have at least ten different vegetables with your Christmas dinner, including red cabbage and cauliflower cheese?? Who knew? (Not me!) 😀

<Er, what’s wrong with the thread title marmaladeandpeanutbutter?>

Yeah the narcissist thing is so wierd isn’t it? To be fair it’s not just on Mumsnet… every pop psychologist in the land is spouting this stuff… .

Nobody seems to drink tea.

It’s always,

“Why don’t you go out for a coffee?”

”Perhaps you could ask to meet him for a coffee?”

”Going for a coffee might be a nice idea for a date.”

It baffles me.

And people say that “coffee” is just used generically to indicate going to get a hot drink and so is inclusive of getting a cup of tea, but you never seeing anyone suggesting going out for a cup of tea with it being inclusive of having a coffee do you?!

It’s always about the coffee 😂

That's because most coffee shops make a bloody awful cup of tea. If you want tea then you invite someone in for tea where you have control of the kettle and can do it properly. Likewise you make a builder a mug of tea.

SpongeBob2022 · 11/12/2023 07:43

You should never put yourself out for anyone, ever, if you don't want to. Especially if it relates to helping family with childcare, leaving your house on Christmas Day or as part of being a step-parent.

Surrogacy is the worst thing anyone could ever do.

emmetgirl · 11/12/2023 07:46

Everyone's children have SEN.

MNers are never invited to any work's do, never given a leaving present or card, and their birthdays are routinely ignored by colleagues; even though they themselves spend thousands on their colleagues, and are always super nice.
