Friend washed up the dog bowl with our dinner plates

23snowisfalling · 10/12/2023 11:33

This happened a few months ago but has just came up in conversation IRL.

Went round a friends casually for some dinner. As she put our plates & cutlery in the washing up bowl she also put the dog's dinner bowl in there and washed it up together with the SAME sponge.

I do laugh at this now, but at the time I was like 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳.

AIBU to think is this absolutely disgusting?!

I am lucky to have a utility room with sink so dog bowls get cleaned in there (along with football boots and other messy things). But if I didn’t have that, I’d obviously wash them in the kitchen sink after washing everything else. I’d probably use a different sponge.

What is all this about dogs licking their arses? I know cats do. Our two do it all the fecking time- but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen my dog lick his arse- I don’t think he can reach! He often rolls in fox shit though so he is disgusting generally, I’m not defending him.

I wouldn't even do this. My dog bowl doesn't enter my kitchen

How fucking bougie of you.

You do realise that plenty of us have no choice but to wash dishes and pet bowls in the same sink and we're all perfectly fine?

TheShellBeach · 10/12/2023 12:11

Irish parents?
Wtf?

RachelSTG · 10/12/2023 12:12

I feed my dog raw food out of a stainless steel bowl. I pour a whole kettle of boiling hot water into bowl after each use and scrub with separate brush. I don't have a dishwasher. I never get ill. Hot water from kettle will kill all germs. I wouldn't put the bowl in the basin with my cutlery and crockery. My dog doesn't eat other animals' waste, isn't that a sign of malnutrition?

@usernother

Obviously can't speak for everyone, but generally speaking, Irish and Caribbean parents (a lot of my friends parents) have strict rules in terms of hygiene (personal and in the home)

What the actual fuck?

marmiteandminticecream · 10/12/2023 12:14

i'm sure the dog will be ok

RachelSTG · 10/12/2023 12:14

Is it really common to have Irish and Caribbean ancestry? And if so, you are genetically predisposed to suing separate washing up sponges?

Irish parents have strict rules about hygiene.

Okay. The rest of us are just sluts, then?

rorret · 10/12/2023 12:15

23snowisfalling · 10/12/2023 11:57

I'm genuinely shocked at some of the replies I've read about levels of hygiene. But of course, each to their own!

For reference, I was raised by Irish parents.. say no more! 😅

Sorry meant to quote this too

What. The. Fuck.

LycheeBaby · 10/12/2023 12:15

I sometimes feed my dog in a cereal bowl, when his bowl’s in the dishwasher, haven’t died yet 😂

Ha! Wish someone would have told my family that

Im not talking about ancestry. Im talking about being brought up by born and bred Irish/Caribbean parents.

Those that know, know.

Hah - you haven't been to my parents' house!

Cats on the counters, cats on the table...their plates definitely go in the dishwasher with the rest.

Ours dogs actually eat in the kitchen. Then the bowls go in the dishwasher.

gamerchick · 10/12/2023 12:18

I read once that dog food is nutritionally complete for humans. I don't understand your boggle really. It's just washing up.

SisterBethina · 10/12/2023 12:19

I’d never heard of a washing up bowl until I came to the UK.

I have a separate sponge (and separate washing liquid which is organic with natural ingredients 😳) for my cat’s dishes and will put them in the dishwasher once a week.

Oh goody...a competitive cleanliness thread.
Such an interesting topic. Really separates the wheat from the chaff in terms of value as a person.
Crack on ladies.

TrixieFatell · 10/12/2023 12:20

Oh god no. Pet bowls get washed separately, they have their own sponge and tea towel and then the sink gets bleached afterwards.

I dont let any pet lick faces or hands, or sleep in human beds
