Friend washed up the dog bowl with our dinner plates

This happened a few months ago but has just came up in conversation IRL.

Went round a friends casually for some dinner. As she put our plates & cutlery in the washing up bowl she also put the dog's dinner bowl in there and washed it up together with the SAME sponge.

I do laugh at this now, but at the time I was like 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳.

AIBU to think is this absolutely disgusting?!

I wouldn't even do this. My dog bowl doesn't enter my kitchen

You’re mad.

dishwshers get hot enough you can use them to sterilise jars for jam making. Aka hot enough to kill bacteria and mould spores so you can store food for a long time when following proper procedures.

Simonjt · 10/12/2023 12:21

Do some people genuinely not understand what soap is, or are they just pretending to be thick?

pictoosh · 10/12/2023 12:22

TrixieFatell · 10/12/2023 12:20

Oh god no. Pet bowls get washed separately, they have their own sponge and tea towel and then the sink gets bleached afterwards.

I dont let any pet lick faces or hands, or sleep in human beds

You're amazing. Where is the starry-eyed emoji, I want to use it.

Love the typo!

Yes! I thought: ‘gosh that poster is really going the extra mile to keep her pets clean’ 😂

Just your acknowledgement is enough for me

For the people saying I'm being unreasonable. Do you also let your dog lick your face and sleep in your bed?

No, I don't have a dog. But lots of people do allow this Confused

Where would you keep dog bowls if not in the kitchen? Everyone I know feeds their dogs in the kitchen unless they have a big enough house to have a utility room or another room where the dog's things can be kept.

However, washing up sponges are rank no matter what you wash with them. Changing them once a week 🤢 or less 🤢

Topseyt123 · 10/12/2023 12:23

When we had pets (two dogs and a cat) all of their food bowls always went in the dishwasher.

They weren't allowed on the beds but could go everywhere else.

Nobody died. We are all here to tell the tale years later.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 10/12/2023 12:23

Yet more evidence that this place is completely fucking insane sometimes. JFC, who honestly gives this more than a nanosecond's thought? Who gives a shit? You are not going to get so much as an upset stomach from eating off crockery that may or may not have been touched by the same, (soapy), sponge that was used to wipe out a dog bowl.
I do sometimes wonder what the hell would happen to some of the posters on here if anything actually genuinely dreadful happened to them. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 10/12/2023 12:23

It kind of turns my stomach, but the logical person in me says that if everything is being washed properly then it really shouldn't matter. Lots of people let their dogs like their faces anyway so.....

BananaSplitsss · 10/12/2023 12:24

This made me laugh.

That’s so bad .
It reminded me of the poster who said she cleaned her toilet brush in the dishwasher alongside her plates and cutlery …
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Your dog bowl doesn’t enter your kitchen? Do they have their own separate kitchen/diner? Where does the dog eat and where do you clean the bowls?

Please explain the reference to Irish parents, I'm curious as to how it has anything to do with the subject?

Me too, I had Irish foster parents for a while, soap to them didn’t seem to exist, washing your hands after the loo was actively frowned upon.

I'm never eating in someone's else's house again 😩😩 the replies on here are gross 🤢

A friend once told me she visited a mutual friend of ours from school. Apparently, she was clearing away after a meal and, instead of washing the dirty crockery, she wiped it with a tea towel and put it back in the cupboard. Really brought home to me that not everyone has the same ideas about hygiene.

mondaytosunday · 10/12/2023 12:26

Why? It's going to be cleaned as much as the other didhes are. Presumably you wash guests cutlery in with yours. Wouldn't bother me (though it would bother my son now I think about it).

Seriously. This was a few years back.
I never forgot it as it was just so rank. 🤢

Sorry but that's gross too 🤮

Hence why I take my own cutlery/cups to work.

Our work’s sponge looks like the front cover of The Book of the Dead!

Owlsoutsidethewindow · 10/12/2023 12:30

You know dog food has to be fit for human consumption?

This is incorrect. Most kibbles wouldn't be considered safe for human consumption. Fresh dog food generally is, e.g. Butternut Box.
Qualified in dog nutrition before anyone says anything.

WestendVBroadway · 10/12/2023 12:32

So we are saying that dishwashers or sponges and hot soapy water don't clean things efficiently. If you apply the same logic, are we saying that vegan or vegetarians won't eat anywhere that meat is served, in case their plates and cutlery are contaminated by animal products?

Threewheeler1 · 10/12/2023 12:34

GalileoHumpkins · 10/12/2023 11:50

Before touching my cats bowl I don a hazmat suit, I then pick up the bowl with tongs held at arms length, I carefully place it inside my purpose built autoclave and sterilise the fuck out of it. Once sterilised I carry it outside and incinerate it. You really can't be too careful. New, hermetically sealed bowls everytime here.

Tut tut, Humpkins, if you were doing it properly you'd move house.
I can't believe what a slacker you are 😮😁

Tryingmybestadhd · 10/12/2023 12:34

I’m not originally from Britain and I find the way some people wash their dishes here disgusting. I do my dishes by first rinsing everything with hot water under the tap not on a bowl then wash everything again with low pressure hot water running the whole time and then rinse everything and leave it to dry so in my case would make no difference.
if you mean she just chucked every dish in a bowl with water and dishwasher then yukkkkk . But then again I would consider it yuck even without the dog bowl .
