Do you think she did it on purpose?

If so be livid. Otherwise YABU

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 10/12/2023 09:57

It's probably for the bin.

Similar thing happened in mine and smoke was coming from the little side panel.

Ask them to replace or bring it back to the shop.

RomeoMcFlourish · 10/12/2023 09:57

You’d be reasonable to be a bit fed up at potentially having to replace it. But furious is a complete overreaction.

autienotnaughty · 10/12/2023 09:58

How expensive was it. ? Is it still working? You could claim on insurance or ask her to replace it. The smell will air out quickly .

ZekeZeke · 10/12/2023 09:58

It was an accident not an on purpose

SmileyClare · 10/12/2023 10:04

Most plastics are microwave safe so this was an unfortunate mistake.

It was a bit daft to “shout for help” - all you need to do is turn the microwave off Confused

If she noticed straight away then your microwave will probably be fine. Burn marks can be cleaned off.

Spray some air freshener and calm down!

This

It was an accident- do you have insurance?

10HailMarys · 10/12/2023 10:55

How was she supposed to know that a plastic dish was going to catch fire in your microwave, though? Plastic is usually microwave-safe. She didn’t do it on purpose. It’s just one of those things. Being ‘livid’ with her is a bit extreme.

memyselfi · 10/12/2023 11:14

So she replaces it .
What's the problem ?

MaisyAndTallulah · 10/12/2023 11:15

Does it still work?

The smell will dissipate more quickly of you rest a small bowl of baking soda inside the microwave.

The burn marks may clean off?

SuspiciousSue · 10/12/2023 11:15

More context. Has she offered to replace it?

TeaKitten · 10/12/2023 11:16

YABU to be furious, most plastic is fine in the microwave, it was clearly an accident.

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 10/12/2023 11:18

If she doesn't offer to replace the microwave then YANBU to be angry but YABU to be angry about the mistake.

gamerchick · 10/12/2023 11:18

From a plastic bowl? Is there something wrong with your microwave? The vents aren't covered or anything are they?

etmoiandme · 10/12/2023 11:18

I think her response now would determine if I was lived or not. It was an accident.

Justcallmebebes · 10/12/2023 11:19

SuspiciousSue · 10/12/2023 11:15

Why should she? There's something obviously defective with the microwave

It could be the microwave that’s faulty though. Plastic doesn’t usually set on fire in microwaves.

emmaliz · 10/12/2023 11:22

Definitely take it back to shop and get refund or new microwave. It's shouldn't be doing that. Where did you buy it from?

PepsiMarx · 10/12/2023 11:32

You need to micro wavé that friendship goodbye

henrysugar12 · 10/12/2023 13:42

If it's a few months old, take it back! It sounds faulty.

SutWytTi · 10/12/2023 13:46

Your friend did nothing wrong, sometimes accidents happen. I'm surprised it caught fire in such a short time.

WaitingfortheTardis · 10/12/2023 13:51

Take the microwave back it must be faulty, plastic in a microwave should be fine. I'd mainly be relieved no one was hurt.

Aprilx · 10/12/2023 13:52

Why on earth would you be livid or furious about this? 🤷‍♀️. It is a minor mishap and sounds like your microwave is faulty.

Zoreos · 10/12/2023 13:58

I’ve never, ever known plastic to catch fire in a microwave. I would be more minded to think the microwave was faulty and contact the manufacturer and tell them your microwave caught fire mid use and get a refund. I was always under the impression things like this should trip out as opposed to catch fire but I’m probably wrong. YABU.

Lifeasiknowitisout · 10/12/2023 14:00

Honestly I didn’t know some plastic bowls weren’t microwave safe. Maybe she didn’t.
