Fluffy socks and hot chocolate

Festive gripes....I like both...however it appears Christmas doesn't go ahead without them.
Christmas Eve boxes full of them, it's always the default suggestion 'cosy night with hot chocolate' .
It irritates me, feel free to tell me I'm grumpy

You then stroke the socks and post on Facebook how blessed you/your feet are

@meatbaseddessert hot chocolate stations! Vomit. My DS tried to cobble one together last week and just... no. I am all for lighting the fire and drinking something nice together but why make a scene out of it?
It reminds me of that phrase;
'if a tree falls in a forest and no body sees, has it really fallen?'
If a fluffy sock and hot choc is enjoyed without social media, is it really cosy?'

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/12/2023 12:00

I envisage a hot cbocolate station to look like something my elderly neighbour had set up in her kitchen. A perpetual tray with the kettle, a tea cup and saucer, dish of sugar, a tin of tea bags and a teaspoon. All Eternal Beau print.

I assume it was always on hand in case of a tea based emergency!

Careful, some of us committed the Mumsnet sin of asking when hot chocolate "stations" and hot chocolate sachets as gifts became a thing and had our arses handed to us on plates:

I don’t actually care how much of any of this stuff anyone else does - because we’re all different. (They are mostly wrong, though). But I do object to it all over social media, and done as if it’s obligatory or you’re depriving your children of some magic experience which is going to scar them for life. That’s the bollocks part.

Yes that's exactly it, I like socks, I like to drink...just don't see why it needs to be an event.
Might start a new trend of
'80 denier tights and earl grey tea' Xmas eve box for over 40s' I'd be all over that...

I hate it too. It creates this "cozy night in" scenario, when in reality it takes about 10 mins to drink a hot chocolate. Then what? Sit back and admire your socks? 😄

This made me laugh 😂

We love hot chocolate with marshmallows and even cream on after a nice frosty winter family walk. Then we all snuggle up on the sofa under our Xmas blankets, by the twinkling tree lights, and watch Xmas films all day wearing the cosy socks.

What grinds my gears is actually more that everyone seems so angry everywhere you go at this time of year. And the road rage in car parks especially is just something else.

Don’t forget the year long “ put your favourite music on and dance around the kitchen”! For some reason whenever I read that it brings me out in a rage! But yes I also hate “ hot choc and movie night” too….yours, The Grinch!

I once met a mum and I was complaining about how I hated the weaning stage. She said she loved it. She said she put her baby in the high chair, would put on music and dance round the kitchen as she fed him. I knew then that we would never be friends.

I think you are being unfair she was obviously celebrating every child mouthful with a swig of wine. People are so judgemental. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you got any for the fat of arse and huge of thigh though?

BebbanburgIsMine · 10/12/2023 16:14

@therealcookiemonster

I only drink hot chocolate if its guaranteed not to have any milk in at all! Hate milk and most dairy products.

I used to like the Cadbury's stuff in a tin, but can't even have that now as it says may contain milk.

I'm sticking to my coffee these days!

in that case it's a really good thing you are not a cookie monster. imagine being only able to eat cookies - but no milk!
