Fluffy socks and hot chocolate

Festive gripes....I like both...however it appears Christmas doesn't go ahead without them.
Christmas Eve boxes full of them, it's always the default suggestion 'cosy night with hot chocolate' .
It irritates me, feel free to tell me I'm grumpy

Yes definitely tea and homemade socks totally acceptable!

I was arguably still cozy though <worries>. A (homemade) blanket may also have been involved... Tea is far superior to hot chocolate, obviously.

Rattenbury · 09/12/2023 23:29

No, it’s all about the cheese and wine. With a dog on the lap for “cosy” factor.

QueenBean22 · 09/12/2023 23:29

People are allowed to like what they like and you can carry on with your day regardless. Maybe try that

If I'm having a cosy night in I want gluwein not hot chocolate, which is generally not good unless made with 100% cocoa, full fat milk and cream plus not much sugar! Also I prefer my slippers to fluffy socks

PullUpTheDrawbridge · 10/12/2023 00:57

I'm with you. The thing that bugs me most isn't there's no warmth in most fluffy socks. Awful cheap man made fibres. Would melt if you held your feet up to the fire. My biggest gripe is when the models always seem to wear them bare legged. If it's fluffy sock season isn't bloody long PJs season isn't it?!

MrsElsa · 10/12/2023 01:03

Does anyone remember Totes slipper socks? They were actually warm.

It's the individually packaged little bits of stuff that annoys me. 15g hot choc in a stupid sachet. What's wrong with having a big tub. Or 3 sprinkles in a sachet. Fuck me you can get those multi sprinkle things for a quid. No messing about!!

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2023 01:06

Fluffy socks always sound like sweaty flight socks, don’t really like hot chocolate.

But it’s just an annoying twee vision that reminds me of all those fecking stock shots of women cradling mugs in eg psychologies magazine

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2023 01:07

… and I do like Christmas!

therealcookiemonster · 10/12/2023 01:21

I'm horrified by all the people who don't like hot chocolate. I thought everyone loved hot choc? if its the awful powdered version, that's reasonable... but real italian style melted dark chocolate in milk with exotic spices?

as soon as the temperature dips below 10 degrees, I have to have one at least once a week...

LinguisticallyCunning · 10/12/2023 01:26

I would've had a hot chocolate earlier (made with real milk and dark chocolate, btw, so bit the artificial cocoa flavour that someone mentioned upthread) but we'd run out of milk so I had to make do with tea. I am under a blanket though and am wearing my cheapy oodie and some woolly yet fluffy socks because our house is rather cold. Soz.

YoongiMarryMe · 10/12/2023 01:35

Some of you sound like such misery guts.

LolaSmiles · 10/12/2023 06:22

They were great. The rubber patter on the sole used to be a source of disappointment because it meant changing them before putting shoes on.

I like the idea of hot chocolate and enjoy the first few sips, but I find it a bit sickly after that, regardless of how good quality it is. Besides, these days a whole mug of milk does not agree with me (though I can still tolerate a bit in my tea, thank goodness).

Landaf · 10/12/2023 06:42

The fluffy socks are a flashpoint for me. They are more clutter. DC are completely incapable of keeping socks in pairs and Ifind odd fluffy socks in the most random of places, usually covered in dust because they have lain there so long.

Another thing that gives me the rage is cheap fluffy mules given to ladies in their eighties. The last couple of years they have had a little platform on to make them even more hazardous. I know several elderly ladies, mostly with some degree of osteoporosis who receive these death traps every year. Always bought by nephews in their late 50s or early 60s, and always a new pair of the same type every year.

Hot chocolate doesn't make me angry unless it is watery and not chocolatey.

meatbaseddessert · 10/12/2023 06:57

What about fucking 'hot chocolate stations'?
It's a tea tray with some cocoa powder and a jar of marshmallows cluttering up a kitchen surface. Compared to these things being in a cupboard instead.

Hmm

That's a tidiness problem, not a sign that fluffy socks are inherently clutter. Socks, fluffy or otherwise, live in drawers or on your feet!

spitefulandbadgrammar · 10/12/2023 07:05

I don’t even understand what fluffy socks are – do people mean like that sort of flayed-alive-Muppet-skin polyester stuff? I like nice socks, mine are alpaca, but I wouldn’t describe them as fluffy or make it a part of my personality the way the fluffy socks and hot choc crowd do. Hot chocolate is always tepid, too. My winter equivalent is alpaca socks and black coffee.

backtowinter · 09/12/2023 22:49

Console yourself that it could be worse

It could be hot choc. Pure smugness

hehe

It could be hot choc with my hubby on our hols!!

We’re members of the same tribe.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 10/12/2023 07:09

I did this by mistake last night but I poured a large slug of Baileys in my hot chocolate too.Happened to be wearing big socks as I had my DMs on earlier.Watched 'Christmas with the Coopers' with my Christmas tree lit and the dog on my feet.Hot chocolate because I got cold earlier. It was the perfect night and I recommend it Op.In fact I might do it again tonight but watch 'The Holiday'.

educatingrati · 10/12/2023 09:52

After a cold wet winter walk, there is nothing more comforting than changing into warm clothes (including fluffy socks) and a hot drink, I prefer tea and a slice of fruit cake, but dc would go for a hot choc and some marshmallows. Context is everything!
