To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

I’m loving this thread 🍿

OP, honestly how vulgar to even consider taking a Maccy Ds outside the vile takeaway building itself, never mind infecting the nostrils of the poor, sensitive people around you. Had you considered eating a large salad before leaving the house? It would fill the average mumsnetter up for a week that would…

And just pack some carrot sticks for the kids, that'll do them.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 11/12/2023 18:46

I don't like the smell of the nachos cheese and I always wonder how long the hot dogs have been wobbling about on the grill, for that reason I personally buy neither but I have no problem with others doing so. I'll just sit and enjoy my Family pack of Revels (which I will not have bought at the cinema) with my feet on the footrest and my chair slightly reclined. As a goodwill donation we did buy 4 milkshakes on the way out last tim only I think they mistyped and charged us for an entire tanker of milk and bucket of ice cream. Twas lovely though

@NonPlayerCharacter no I'm not saying that at all. Nachos and other food purchased in the cinema does not have the same sickly sweet, disgusting smell that McDonalds has. If you like McDonalds then you probably don't notice the smell but if someone doesn't like McDonalds then I can assure you the smell is often absolutely disgusting.

It's reasonable to expect to be able to go to a cinema in which they don't serve McDonalds and expect people not to be eating it.

It would be unreasonable of me to walk into a McDonalds and complain about the smell. But it's selfish and inconsiderate to take your smelly takeout food to a cinema when everyone else in there has not chosen to smell it. When I attend a cinema i can expect to smell nachos or whatever food they serve there. If I find it disgusting then I can choose not to attend but what isn't reasonable is being expected to sit through a film I've paid for with the offensive smell of McDonalds.

Oh my goodness, you don't like the smell of McDonalds, it's so lush, it's mouth watering.

Honestly, they should bottle it.

Ah yes a mumsnetter would be full to bursting eating a huge salad a month before going to cinema. The super sporty kids could munch kale or sprouts. Only a déclassé mum would consider McDonald’s. I mean the nanny and au pair they don’t even eat McDonald’s

I absolutely don't mind the answers - and if you had read my replies, you'll see I actually didn't take it into the cinema.

What is absolutely ridiculous is how people are literally acting like I've shat on their nan.

Hahaha! OP, you're great 😁 The people on here calling you common as muck etc. are being complete numpties

Clearly some people of gone well beyond disagreeing with you and seem to have been reading a thread where you asked if it was ok to barbecue kittens. 😱

I don’t personally see why anyone would want to try and eat hot food in the dark without something to lean on but I don’t think it makes you a heinous person and I don’t think it should be a crime facing a prison sentence.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 11/12/2023 20:32

Sorry CatLoaf this was meant to be addressed to the OP.

😂😂😂😂

Why not throw in some blue cheese?

There's a french sausage called andouilette, made from tripe, which is delicious but smells like a rancid nappy. That'd give them something to complain about! Honestly, wading in on a mum with a 4 year old, clearly going to a kids film, as if she's suggesting taking a tupperware box filled with rotten fish into The Ivy is just ridiculous. She eventually ate in the car while the cinema was probably full of a lot worse 🙄

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 22:04

Well, there are now. Their website is very clear. You can’t bring in hot food, pungent food or alcohol.

I never read their website. So I'm carrying on as normal cheers . @daisypond

ExTheCheater · 11/12/2023 22:15

Done this loads of times.

Saracen · 12/12/2023 00:35

Ew. The smell and the mess. Take cold food instead.

My favourite is the offensive to veggies comment, but this has been a thread full of funny overreactions.

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/12/2023 07:11

I like the one who said she gets an allergic reaction when someone else eats something.

Mumsnet is always wanging on about things being "common" (although never why anyone should care). Does anyone actually say that any more in real life?

Only mumsnetters!

Cabdiraxman · 12/12/2023 07:41

I've seen someone eat an Indian takeaway on a tray at the Cinema. It wasn't busy. They sat in an area of the cinema where no one was sitting around them.

Behindyouiam · 12/12/2023 07:37

I do believe that some people don't like the smell.

But why can't they just say "I wish people wouldn't, I don't like the smell"?

Why all the claims of dry heaving and puking and allergic reactions when someone else eats it? Do they think anyone believes it? And why all the endless invective about how offensive and stinky and disgusting and common it is?

You know, I also liked the implication that true film buffs (ie, higher minds) would never eat while watching a film or rest their feet on something. That was good too.

Anderson2018 · 12/12/2023 08:42

I don’t see anything wrong with it but my husband made me scoff my burger before the cinema the last time because he was embarrassed by me wanting to take it in 🤣 I don’t understand why because people eat hot food in there anyway. Just do it, it’s only a happy meal your not going to stink out the whole cinema
