To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

No way. I think that’s awful. I’ve never heard of people eating hot food at the cinema.

Me neither. I think it would be horrible.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 08:48

Ha Ha , a glass of wine or a glass of water at a meal in a restaurant is NOT the same as a take away burger or a McD in a cinema. A cinema is not primarily a place to eat.

Seem to be whole Cinema chains that would take issue with that.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:53

@AzureBlue99 yep, good idea and YAY, we do do outside screenings in the summer as well as drive in screenings. People can eat all the smelly ultra processed food they want.

Edited

Right. And restaurants aren't primarily places to drink, but it's still permitted and still sold on the site.

Also, I wasn't talking about McDonalds. I was responding to the "confusion" about why people can't go without eating while at the cinema.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:55

@sunglassesonthetable not the ones who are geared for film buffs.

threatmatrix · 11/12/2023 08:55

From a kids meal? Get a grip.

MustWeDoThis · 11/12/2023 00:43

Not at all. Everyone does it.

Anyone who has a problem with a bit of smell needs to get over themselves, stop acting so self-entitled (as if they can demand to be smell free!), the smell will only last a couple of minutes, there will be lots of other smells etc.

Seriously people! There are children and adults being killed in a war right now and you're crying over a smell!

Stop the planet, I want to get off.

I can assure you, not EVERYONE does it. Some people on this thread have already stated that they work at cinemas and it is not allowed at their particular one. You certainly wouldn't be allowed to do it at the cinema where I live.

Why must people exaggerate Confused

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 08:58

not the ones who are geared for film buffs.

Not the ones who are geared for film buffs ... who don't want to eat.

I'd call myself a film buff.

Just like Glynbourne.

FizzyLaser · 11/12/2023 09:04

Everyman serves hot food, but that doesn’t smell as bad as a McDonald’s

HoppingPavlova · 11/12/2023 09:09

I would have always said YABU. However, after our cinema now sells their own rank smelling hot food, including hot dogs, I’m going YANBU. I was totally onboard when there was no hot food allowed but now to allow stinky cinema hot food, but not McD’s seems odd so I say go for it.

Runnerduck34 · 11/12/2023 09:30

I've never seen people bring in mcdonalds to cinema- their own bag of sweets and drink -yes as these are sold also sold at cinema but a hot meal??
I wouldn't particularly want to be watching a film at a cinema whilst people next to me munch through burger and chips.
I think if cinema sells it its fair game to bring your own but if its not food they sell then I wouldn't. Not sure they'd let you in with it??
High risk if DC making a mess eating it in the dark and mcdonalds does smell.

HoppingPavlova · 11/12/2023 09:34

Last movie I went to I took in takeaway Thai. I figured as the cinema was selling hot dogs, nachos, hamburgers etc to eat in the movie then Thai was no worse. I’d rather freshly prepared Thai than a burger that had sat there under a warmer for 40min before being pushed across to me.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 09:37

@Behindyouiam yes, they may well all allow hot food but I can guarantee that it would have had to be bought at the premises and not brought in from an outside venue which is what the OP was doing.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 09:40

@sunglassesonthetable drive in Glyndebourne? 😅

Ineke · 11/12/2023 09:43

Just very relieved that in the Cinema I work at people come for the film and don’t eat any hot food ever. Children’s films are slightly different with more sweets and popcorn, but thankfully never any hot food. People choose this cinema for this reason.

GladioliandSweetPeas · 11/12/2023 09:45

Many of you have never been to an Everyman cinema and it shows. They bring pizzas & hamburgers to your seat!

Megifer · 11/12/2023 09:47

Why are people using words like munch, crunch, chomp etc? I've never munched on anything I just eat, i open my mouth, take a bite, close mouth, chew, swallow. If your experience of people eating is anything less than that you need to find new friends and acquaintances who can eat normally.

How do you tell which cinemas are geared towards people who particularly like films?

Tracker1234 · 11/12/2023 09:47

Lots of entilted people saying 'I want to eat whatever I like' and stuff everyone else. And if its fine to be eating crap at the cinema, hot dogs and McDonalds then why do we have such an obesity problem in the UK.

And others choose other cinemas for a reason.

Yep, huge obesity problem because some people eat in the cinema once a month 🙄

For dramatic effect!

I agree with you, we just eat!

Panda89 · 11/12/2023 09:56

Our local Odeon sells nachos, hot dogs, chicken strips, ice cream, booze. It also has a Costa on site so toasties, cakes etc also are ok.
I personally wouldn’t take external hot food in, but clearly the food they sell in the foyer is ok otherwise they wouldn’t sell it.
I don’t go to the cinema often, it’s a rare treat, so I always have nachos with cheese sauce and will plan it into my day I.e not eat lunch.
