To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

Why not keep the smells and mess where they belong and actually screen the films at McDonalds? Most of them have vast upstairs areas, usually empty. Then the rest of us can enjoy the cinema in peace.

Tracker1234 · 11/12/2023 09:57

But its a way of eating, Eating in the street, eating takeways, portions much bigger, eating just everywhere. My sons swimming instructor actually had to write to parents to stop bringing food to the poolside.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:55

@sunglassesonthetable not the ones who are geared for film buffs.

Oh la-di-da some people just LOOOVE films so much that they don't feel the need to have some snacks while watching because they are so engrossed in the quality of the production and the evolution of the directors....so what? 😂

For many other people food is a huge part of the experience so many cinemas cater for that too!

confusedbythesystem · 11/12/2023 09:58

I've also made a nental note to avoid Everyman and Odeon cinemas and the type of customer they attract. Thanks OP, that's been helpful.

@SnowSwan Ha Ha , a glass of wine or a glass of water at a meal in a restaurant is NOT the same as a take away burger or a McD in a cinema. A cinema is not primarily a place to eat.

Edited

Everyman deliver food to your seats! They combine the two as do a lot of other places.

Need to add Cineworld to that list too 👍

Why are people using words like munch, crunch, chomp etc? I've never munched on anything I just eat, i open my mouth, take a bite, close mouth, chew, swallow. If your experience of people eating is anything less than that you need to find new friends and acquaintances who can eat normally.

In the same way that disliked mothers-in-law don’t walk into your house. They march in. And annoying people don’t sit next to you on a train. They plonk themselves next to you.

The hyperbole has been a bit less that usual on this thread. I’ve seen munched, chomped and pigged out but haven’t yet seen guzzled, scoffed or troughed. Plenty of time yet though.

Del67 · 11/12/2023 10:10

Yes you are. Being forced to sit by other people eating smelly food, whether on public transport or at events, is SO annoying!

Behindyouiam · 11/12/2023 10:11

@confusedbythesystem as @Megifer says add cineworld and also Vue!

The peasants get everywhere these days!

confusedbythesystem · 11/12/2023 10:14

Thanks @Megifer (mental note of course)

Cinema and Mumsnet police!

Multitasking!

You need to add Vue to your list also, probably easier to have a list of where you can go, it'll be shorter.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 10:35

drive in Glyndebourne? 😅

No. @Ineke

This thread is all about the food.
Read back.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 10:40

Just very relieved that in the Cinema I work at people come for the film and don’t eat any hot food ever. Children’s films are slightly different with more sweets and popcorn, but thankfully never any hot food. People choose this cinema for this reason.

Crack on. It's excellent there is something for everyone.

Let's bear in mind this OP was a child at a child's film in a Cinema where hot food was served.

And regardless, I don't believe food consumption is the first motivation @Ineke I think people choose for the film.

😩🙄👌🏼

I love Everyman.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 11:19

They ALSO have sofas and comfy chairs and footrests. Lovely.

But there's probably something gratuitous about that. 🙄 Do you 'have' to have comfort for an hour and a half?

What?! Why on earth would anybody need footrests in a cinema?
You're there to watch a film, not relax with your feet up! No wonder we have an obesity epidemic in this country🙄

Best ask Everyman Cinemas.

Behindyouiam · 11/12/2023 11:31

@Extrasprinklesplz odeon has reclining seats! They're great!

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 11:34

They're all over the country @Extrasprinklesplz . There's probably one near you.

If you went along you could get a look at customers leaving and test out your obesity theory.

I despair at the way this country is headed. Not only do they need to gobble down food at the cinema, but they also want to recline.
Clearly not real film buffs otherwise they would sit up straight, feet on the ground and not on a foot rest, and they most certainly would never eat or drink.
This is all very lower class.

No way. I could not bring myself to be around that. Imagine the smells! They'll probably all come out smelling like chicken nuggets and that could make me heave and retch and I'll get a migraine.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 11:40

@Extrasprinklesplz 😉

Ineke · 11/12/2023 11:48

It’s all to try to get more audience in, cinemas have changed. 30 -40 years ago it was considered vulgar to eat in the street. So it goes, a shame really as it does spoil the cinema experience for many people.
