To sneak McD's into the cinema

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

I do feel like people are acting like I've asked if I can drop my pants and relieve myself in the aisle.

I agree. Very OTT
😅🤣

YABU. I work in a cinema and my managers are very clear that if I see customers trying to take hot food into a screen I must challenge them on it. It makes the environment (smells) unpleasant for other patrons. Please don't do this guys.

I’ve taken McDonald's, Franco manca,Wagamama into odeon & Everyman unchallenged
everyman cinema sell hot pizza, and hot dog so it’s most certainly not in pursuit of a neutral smell free environment.
i imagine any potential external food ban is financially driven to maintain profit by not introducing food bought externally
if cinema management wanted to introduce no hot food to maintain ambient olfactory experiences they'd have to ban their own hot food

It's the gherkins. They're desperate for getting on the x factor so they keep singing Kelly Clarkson songs. Then they shit on the floor and assault people.

🤣😅🤣😅

Lemondoughnut · 11/12/2023 06:41

It's clearly a kid's film so the cinema will be full of them, eating, burping, asking questions out loud and saying they need the toilet. No one will give two hoots about a 4 year old eating MD.
Enjoy.

"must challenge them"
😅🤣😅🤣

Zerosleep · 11/12/2023 07:10

I have been known to take a Nando’s into the cinema so why not a Macdonald’s 🤷🏼‍♀️

Go for it!

👌🏼😂😂😂

Only having one local cinema is the biggest first world problem I've ever heard.

Having to have a McD because its treat tea night has to be the second biggest!
OP, you’ve done the typical MN thing of asking AIBU and then not liking the variety of answers you get.

Absolutely not. I work in a cinema where hot food is not allowed apart from coffee tea etc. Some cinemas now, such as the Curzon will have your hot food order delivered to you in your seat. I know many of my customers come to our cinema instead because the smell of burgers, hot dogs pizza etc is off putting when in the cinema not to mention the noise. Someone noisily munching crisps and rustling wrappings is bad enough. You need to consider the other customers and how they would feel. It is extremely gross for some people. The show is usually 1.5 to 2 hours long. I wonder how people can’t manage to do without food for such a short length of time. What you should certainly not do is bring in hot food from another venue to eat there. Cinemas make much of their income from the sales of concessions, (popcorn, drinks etc), it’s hard enough for them to make much of a profit these days although it is getting better now since Covid has faded into the distance. Would you do this in a theatre?

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:14

Some cinemas have relaxed performances, so the lights are kept on low, and people who find it hard to sit still or keep quiet are free to behave in a manner which they can cope with, maybe if you need to eat in the cinema, this is the kind of screening you should opt for so as not to spoil the enjoyment of other patrons.

Or just go to the odeon or Everyman or any of the others that allow food.

Do you think at the Curzon and Everyman Cinemas the meals being brought out are sort of emergency interventions for people who can't 'manage' ?

No thanks. I'll just stick to where it's fine to eat 👍🏻

I can manage perfectly fine, I just don't want to.

SnowSwan · 11/12/2023 08:23

Snacking is part of the experience for many people. Like how some people like to have a glass of wine when they go out for dinner, whereas others just have tap water. It has nothing to do with a lack of self-control around food or alcohol. 🙄

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:28

@BeanNina , yes, we used to place ushers in the cinema during the films, sometimes to remind people not to have their phones on or scroll during a performance. We no longer do this, the reason being financial. I still am of the opinion that the cinema is for watching and becoming immersed in the story, screenplay and is not a restaurant. The comment earlier about theatre being ‘middle class’ as if the cinema was somehow not quite so culturally high brow gets me! Neither is any sort of class, good behaviour in these venues is just good manners.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:31

Also, have a thought for the staff at cinemas who have to pick up all the food trash from Mc D wrappers etc as so many people just leave their food crap on the floor.

As opposed to the popcorn all over the floor? Some people do take their rubbish with them you know

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:35

@sunglassesonthetable, good, because it’s not fine to eat hot food in some cinemas and it is definitely not allowed to bring in hot food from another venue.

Or the nachos and hot dog boxes?

No I don't leave litter.

It's fine and allowed in my local cineworld 😊 or they turn a blind eye to it 🤷‍♀️

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:38

@SleepingStandingUp yes, those that do are appreciated but there are many who do not and it’s those who spoil it for the rest.

Like I said I will wait for the signs.

Ineke · 11/12/2023 08:43

@SnowSwan Ha Ha , a glass of wine or a glass of water at a meal in a restaurant is NOT the same as a take away burger or a McD in a cinema. A cinema is not primarily a place to eat.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/12/2023 08:46

Tbh I don't need a lecture on Cinema behaviour.

I don't drop litter or have my phone on and it's irrelevant how I would behave in a theatre as I behave perfectly well in a cinema.

I choose to take the snacks I want because I enjoy the experience.
