To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

OP I love your rebuffs to the affronted mumsnetters. I would take in anything I wanted into the cinema. (Excluding alcohol). I’d love to be a fly on the wall in their perfect lives. I hope your DS loved his treat.

I'm like a previous poster who likes to take in a little can of Mohito or G&T. In for a penny ...

lemmein · 10/12/2023 22:39

We are simply debating cinema etiquette. It's almost like people can be irritated by various things without it being a major stumbling block in their day to day lives. I don't like people playing music loudly on their phones while on public transport either yet somehow despite finding it annoying, I can hold down a professional job, deal with elderly parents, travel abroad, drive a car etc without becoming a hysterical mess.

@TheCadoganArms Not just a job...a professional job 😅

Relax your sphincter, you'll feel better!

Zone2NorthLondon · 10/12/2023 22:43

Let’s remind ourselves mumsnetters can smell febreeze a block away, can detect pant liners, they abhorr perfume and come out in hives if anyone has used a scented soap. The smell of cheese, water, honey, ham or butter will cause a convulsion. They wear a hazmat suit in an urban setting in case anyone has been to Greggs, McDonald’s, Burger King . They can maybe tolerate the organic waft from Leon but that’s about all. How very dare anyone consider snacks or McDonald’s within a 50 m perimeter of them, it’s an olfactory disaster I tell ya

Zooeyzo · 10/12/2023 22:48

Anybody else fancy eating some junk food after reading this thread. I want a KFC.

Pogue4Life · 10/12/2023 23:00

Having worked in a cinema in a previous job, yes people are allowed to take their own snacks in, the staff aren’t going to stop you however it is frowned upon taking in your own hot food and if they realise you have done they can and will ask you to leave.

exaltedwombat · 10/12/2023 23:01

We don't know what the rule is at this particular cinema. Ask them.

SnowSwan · 10/12/2023 19:17

Some people seem to think a trip to the cinema is on par with a night at the theatre.

It's not. One is not required to be middle class at the Odeon.

From recent news theatre behaviour is far worse than cinema behaviour in many instances.

Zone2NorthLondon · 10/12/2023 23:14

Have took in McDonald's, pizza, subway, sushi to Everyman and Odeon. Staff have not challenged or asked us to leave. It’s pretty self evident when I’m carrying a franco manca box

Was anybody around you doing this?

yes a small cafe area about 8 different customers at the tables and two staff members collecting from different tables and delivering to the different tables.

Ahsoka2001 · 11/12/2023 00:02

YABU. I work in a cinema and my managers are very clear that if I see customers trying to take hot food into a screen I must challenge them on it. It makes the environment (smells) unpleasant for other patrons. Please don't do this guys.

They were all retching, like Jim Carrey? Or did my attached gif not load?

in that case everyone was business as expected

MustWeDoThis · 11/12/2023 00:43

Not at all. Everyone does it.

Anyone who has a problem with a bit of smell needs to get over themselves, stop acting so self-entitled (as if they can demand to be smell free!), the smell will only last a couple of minutes, there will be lots of other smells etc.

Seriously people! There are children and adults being killed in a war right now and you're crying over a smell!

Stop the planet, I want to get off.

BeanNina · 11/12/2023 00:46

@Ahsoka2001 - wow. I find it amazing (mind blowing actually) that people can't take hot food but can drive others insane with the rustling, crunching, slurping, talking and looking at mobile phones while there is no one in the cinema to tell them to stop! I don't go to the cinema anymore because without the staff in the actual theatre, people get away with all sorts. But it's mainly because I cannot stand certain noises due to being autistic. 👻

MustWeDoThis · 11/12/2023 00:52

I bow down to you! You have made me laugh quite loud. A kindred spirit.

Us heathens and our Maccy D's!

"Look at me with Maccy D's! Lousy, scratching, I've got fleas! Not allowed in Waitrose because I'm lower class! I'm just poor Sandra Deeeee!"

I think you’ll find it’s the other way round.

If you think it’s OK, you’re the one who needs to get over themselves - as if you can demand to eat whenever and wherever you want - and stop acting so self-entitled.

Stop the planet. I want to get off!

BeanNina · 11/12/2023 00:54

I did smuggle a full glass of wine in once though. A glass, that I had brought from the restaurant next door :)

MustWeDoThis · 11/12/2023 00:56

Calm down, Karen. I can indeed eat where I like, but if you don't like the smell I suggest you bring a hanky to dry your eyes if they water over such a smell.

Oh the despair!

ThinWomansBrain · 11/12/2023 01:02

I hate it when people bring hot food they have bought at the cinema into the auditorium as well.

local curzon has QR codes by the seats, you can order pizza to be brought to your seat.

You lost any argument that you ever had with that misogynistic and ageist comment.

shearwater2 · 11/12/2023 01:08

I don't see the point of bringing it into the cinema. McDs for their tea first then they get an ice cream or sweets at the cinema. Though I wouldn't bat an eyelid at taking a McFlurry in.

Powerflower22 · 11/12/2023 03:24

I find it incredibly selfish and anti social that several people including the OP think it’s ok to take a MD’s into a cinema - their surrounded by other people who may not wish to be forced to sit there with that awful smell. What is wrong with these LC people?

eat before or afterwards or stick to popcorn

God this thread. How do people cope in life.

It's fine, it's a happy meal not a fistful of joints and a smoked fish.

This.
🤣😅🤣😅
