To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

No problem @sunglassesonthetable It wasn't me who mentioned the website/rules but I was the dry heaver! (Subway, boak)

The thing is, to see things from a different direction, if the cinemas themselves are selling stinky and hot food, they have no business objecting to others bringing it in. But some of the cinemas object, not from the perspective of other customer enjoyment, but because they want all the money to be spent on their premises. And everything is overpriced at the cinema. The cinemas are at fault. There should be a blanket ban for all smelly food, that was there would be no ambiguity about whether you could bring in your own fast food or any whiffy snack. The only exceptions would be those chains who offer a dining experience as part of the showing.

What a massive turnaround!

Quite bizarre!

It's almost like you've started living in the real world, and anyone eating McCrappy meals has an actual right to an opinion.

What happened @AzureBlue99?

AzureBlue99 · 10/12/2023 20:25

I haven't changed my opinion. I still don't think people should be bringing smelly food in, but the cinemas are at fault by selling it themselves. I do think there is a responsibility towards others not to make yourself a nuisance in public, particularly in places where you have paid to experience something, to spoil that experience. And I feel sorry that a 4 years old experience of a happy meal was from McDonalds.

I am not batshit or bizarre or any of the other insults beginning with B you care to lob at me. I am Balanced.

You're not balanced, you've been really nasty and rude about other parents choices, you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

Thoroughly ashamed, now who is behaving in a completely OTT way.

Anyway, let's agree to differ. This thread, like the Happy Meal, has gone cold.

MirabelMadrigal · 10/12/2023 20:36

Wow all the ppl saying mcds smell bad.. apart from the onions and pickles.. I am wondering exactly what the difference is between my local and your mcds 🤔 OP go for it, I wouldn't as I love their nachos with a whole mountain of jalapeños on top! Yum!

Ethylred · 10/12/2023 20:58

There is so much entitlement on this thread. And it's coming from the people who feel entitled to inflict the stink of their food on others.

Bernardo1 · 10/12/2023 21:14

Yes.

ShineOnBrightly · 10/12/2023 21:21

I would hope you choke on it.

No, it's coming from the people with abnormal, stinky noses who want to inflict their eccentric rules on all and sundry.

Abnormal? It's often the ND who struggle with sensory things.

Do you think maybe you need some other things to do so that the cinema isn't quite so important to you?

Tootytoot78 · 10/12/2023 21:42

In ye olden days people used to take hard boiled eggs into the 'picture's then peel and eat them!
Now THAT is a smell you don't want.

Bertiesmum3 · 10/12/2023 21:46

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 18:28

Very selfish
If I had to sit through a film smelling that vile food, I’d be complaining about you!
it’s the most revolting smell ever and also I’m allergic to cheese so if it had cheese on it, it would make me il

Seriously? How do you manage on the plane? Or in a restaurant if someone else's cheese makes you i'll?

Actually lots of cinemas sell nachos with cheese. Is going to the cinema high risk?

@Bertiesmum3

I’ve thrown up more than once on a plane due to the smell of the toaties they do 🤢
As for the cinema they don’t do them in my closest one

Bertiesmum3 · 10/12/2023 21:49

Nanaof1 · 10/12/2023 18:07

So, you don't go to theaters that serve nachos or cheese pizza or cheese popcorn? Or is it only "certain" cheeses that affect you? 🙄

I hope you don't wear perfume or scented lotion anywhere. Many people are allergic to it.

Just the smell makes me throw up!
no I don’t go to the theatre, mind saying that my local one doesn’t do food to be eaten whilst watching what ever is on

Bossladywood · 10/12/2023 21:57

I don’t! Maybe that’s my problem and I should start being more selfish.

nerysw · 10/12/2023 22:11

Wow, what a thread! I doff my flat cap to you OP and would not have thought badly of you for taking in a Happy Meal. Maybe if cinema chains provided hot food which was edible and you didn't need a second mortgage for we'd think differently. I'm firmly in the Poundland pre cinema crew for snacks.

You puke at the mere smell of cheese?

kazlau · 10/12/2023 22:24

OP I love your rebuffs to the affronted mumsnetters. I would take in anything I wanted into the cinema. (Excluding alcohol). I’d love to be a fly on the wall in their perfect lives. I hope your DS loved his treat.
