To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

I sat near someone in the cinema eating a Subway, I would have to leave. It gives me dry heaves. It's worse than McDs.

I love this thread too much

I work with someone who used to manage a cinema and she said you can take food in anyway. She used to laugh when people would try and hide it because there’s nothing to say you can’t take your own food in. People do it more than you think.
go for it!

SnowSwan · 10/12/2023 19:17

Some people seem to think a trip to the cinema is on par with a night at the theatre.

It's not. One is not required to be middle class at the Odeon.

Pfpppl · 10/12/2023 19:17

I'd rather smell that than popcorn!

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 19:18

Some bod goes into the cinema with their food and then there's these people dry heaving and running out.

😩

artsperson · 10/12/2023 19:18

Really. Do you have to inflict the smell of your food on other people? More generally why can't people go for two hours without stuffing their faces with junk food? It's sad.

How can Macdonalds be a treat? Have you seen what goes in to it 🤢
I agree with the other comment, take snacks but go somewhere nice ie pizza afterwards.

I love feeding my child pure cholesterol and salt.

I take a pot of M&S chopped Mango and a pot of dried fruit and nuts and sea salt crisps does that count?

Perhaps they need to have lower class and middle class showings so you can turn up with your mcDs and greggs or your houmous and olives as appropriate.

If I ran the risk of dry heaving, puking and having an allergic reaction from someone else's food at the cinema, I wouldn't go at all and I can't see how I'd ever cope in a restaurant. Surprised at all the crunching and burping that apparently goes on too. I've known a few annoying rustlers but I've never known someone to sit there slurping and burping loudly enough to be audible over the sound. Is this the same part of Mumsnetland where anything other than massive salads is never merely eaten, but always shovelled, chomped, stuffed and guzzled?

I know my stalker will be straight on me, but I am on ignore mode for that poster.

However, that Subway smell is the rankest smell on the High Street. I have to rush past a Subway in the same way I rush past a Lush - both of them stinking the street out with their own eye watering brand of rank. I genuinely don't understand how somebody can place an order in one, let alone eat one. The decor is a bit state penitentiary for me too, but I digress. If I sat near someone in the cinema eating a Subway, I would have to leave. It gives me dry heaves. It's worse than McDs.

Oh bless you darling!

Sorry but it's just disgusting. The smell is horrendous. Please don't inflict the smell and noise on other people.

What the ones eating loaded nachos and hot dogs?

Odeon chain:

“We do not allow the following to be brought in from outside the cinema:

  • Heated food
  • Pungent food

Whatwithonethingandanother · 10/12/2023 19:29

No hot food according to The Code.

It doesn't have the same specific smell. mcDonalds has a very specific smell. I understand that if you like McDonalds it probably doesn't bother you but for people who don't like it, the smell is seriously awful. I have to move train carriages when people eat it on the train.

Plus the rustling packets would be noisy.

So No Vindaloo then.
Just as well we are talking about a Happy Meal.

They should probably put a sign up at least.

Behindyouiam · 10/12/2023 19:31

@WashItTomorrow do you think it may be a business decision to say no outside hot or pungent food allowed, but the hot and pungent food sold in the cinema is allowed?

🤔

AzureBlue99 · 10/12/2023 19:31

Couldn't they have drive in cinemas/McDonalds? Would suit everyone, the fast food lovers and those who don't. People can sit in their cars, not caring a jot that they are stinking up their car. They are nose blind to the smell and they have no need to sneak the junk food in. The space is theirs to pollute.

Go on do it.....

I'm sure it'll be a massive hit!

Kangkangbooru · 10/12/2023 19:33

"Having a Happy Meal is acting like a pig?

And what would one pig out like, if not a pig?"
Absolutely not when you are eating it where you should be. But if you are putting your own and your kids own little treat night above being considerate to others , and sneaking food in, then that's quite animal like and disgusting.

Pig-out is a figure of speech, in case you didn't know...

Even in America, those haven't been popular for a long time. But you need to be in a convertible for it to work. So the smell might dissipate more quickly but there'll still be all this disgusting overbearing noise, apparently...and do we really have the climate for it?

Do you ever go to a kids tea time film ?
