To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

I would, it can't smell any worse than the foods they sell

Macanncheese · 10/12/2023 18:26

I was thinking the same thing! Some people are far too invested in what other people do. It’s a kid eating a burger for gods sake it’s not going to kill you get over it! 😂

Zone2NorthLondon · 10/12/2023 18:27

Significant amount on mn have self reported misophonia and other issues that impact their lives

Gettingbysomehow · 10/12/2023 18:27

I've been sneaking my own food in for years. You just have to make sure it's not too stinky or noisy. No fish curries.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 18:28

Very selfish
If I had to sit through a film smelling that vile food, I’d be complaining about you!
it’s the most revolting smell ever and also I’m allergic to cheese so if it had cheese on it, it would make me il

Seriously? How do you manage on the plane? Or in a restaurant if someone else's cheese makes you i'll?

Actually lots of cinemas sell nachos with cheese. Is going to the cinema high risk?

Eat before, or eat what they sell. Simple respect for self and business.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 11:49

My local cinema sells them - well, the nachos, not sure about hot dogs - but you can’t take them into the screening. You need to have them at the cinema bar/cafe.

Not at OP's local or mine.

Nor at any that I have been to over the years. Pizza, hot dogs and nachos are available and there is no place to sit and eat them except for the theater seats. It's been a while since I've gone and I bet they serve even more now. I know they have added ice cream and alcohol. Alcohol was a smart choice because nothing makes a movie more fun than the people who enjoy a beer or ten or drink a bottle of wine and then think they are funnier than W.C. Fields or to make you feel safe and secure on the drive home.

greenbeansnspinach · 10/12/2023 18:30

I’ve just read a few more of these replies, while eating a very smelly and delicious curry in my own kitchen.
My spirits have been dragged down a bit by the tone of many of the posters. It feels that some, not all, are unable to put forward their opinions in a measured way. People are quick to take sides, and also quick to make rude personal comments about those who disagree with them. Just why, and what they get out of expressing themselves in this way, is really unclear to me. Habit? Suppressed anger about personal issues?
it would be so much more interesting if there could be a great discussion about “sneaking a takeaway into the cinema - acceptable or not acceptable?” Doesn’t have to be boring, people could still make hard hitting points but remain … polite? It’s such a minor issue about social accountability. If some of us can’t disagree in a reasonable manner about a takeaway meal, what hope is there when it comes to issues of oh, I don’t know … immigration… Covid vaccines … female genital mutilation …?

Not much of a treat for the people having to put up with the stink. But, hey, they don’t matter, just you and your kid matter.

Yep. Exactly.

Talk about entitled.

If he must have fast food, get it and go home and watch a film.

What, popcorn and sweets?

Danikm151 · 10/12/2023 18:32

Omg the pearl clutching on here is amazing.

LaurieStrode · 10/12/2023 18:33

Eyeroll.

Whenever people trot out "pearl-clutching" about any suggestion of decent public behaviour and decorum, I wonder how they were raised that their notions and expectations are so lowdown.

The cinema isn't the same as your front room.

Sennelier1 · 10/12/2023 18:34

We stopped going to movie theaters since it became more about snacks and food than about the movie. I just hate the smell of nachos with dips, churros, hotdogs, all mingled and eaten by people with no restraint, loudly chewing, crunching and burping. So please just go,have fun, I stopped caring.

Bossladywood · 10/12/2023 18:35

Why ask then?

I wouldn’t and I would be annoyed with someone sat beside me etc eating a MacDonalds.

And no, before anyone asks I don’t eat hot cinema food.

Bossladywood · 10/12/2023 18:37

You think you can just do what you fancy and others just put up and shut up?

Shoesareamazing · 10/12/2023 18:38

Do not do this. The smell is disgusting and is unfair to the people sitting around you. 🤢

SouthLondonMum22 · 10/12/2023 18:39

WashItTomorrow · 10/12/2023 18:30

What, popcorn and sweets?

hot dogs
nachos
pizza

just to name a few from various local ones.

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 09/12/2023 21:29

Well, it's true.

Could someone tell me why they can't survive a couple of hours without a bucket of popcorn and a family bag of Minstrels?

Because it's part of the cinema 'experience'. It's part of the treat particularly for a child!

I don't go to the cinema anyway so I don't care.

😲 It’s quite incredible how upset some people get over the tiniest of things.

I have in the past taken my own snacks into the cinema. Certainly not McDonalds as my memory the taste of it as a teenager is slightly warmed up cardboard. But the sheer amount of smelly hot food people are preparing to eat everywhere: cinema, public transport, library even hospital waiting rooms has become so normalised most people barely raise an eyebrow now.
I just think hot food is something you eat a table or at least on a proper tray.

Personally I am not a fan of the cinema. Overpriced, far too loud, kids kicking your seat. I stopped going once DD reached her teens. But perhaps I’m in the minority.

At my local one, a chain, you aren’t allowed to take those in. The cinema sells them - not sure about the hot dogs - but you need to eat them at the cinema bar/cafe.

I don't really understand all the McDonald's hate.

They were voluntarily publishing nutritional values long before other places did. It allows you to choose wisely, and to plan the rest of your food for the day around it.

We should be teaching children that they can eat anything they like in moderation rather than designating certain foods as naughty. That sort of approach just sets kids up for eating disorders.

Virtue signalling and snobbery, that's why!

Edited

That might be yours but absolutely isn't the case at mine. Everything is allowed in.

Tracker1234 · 10/12/2023 18:49

Do people have to keep stuffing themselves with smelly food whilst watching a film. It’s as bad as chattering through a film or constantly checking your phone because after all - it’s all about you!

Please don’t do it. Surely your child can survive without eating a smelly McDonalds. I certainly wouldn’t like to be sitting near you
