To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

I am not precious, just have standards. We are a declining section of society. You can join us if you forsake the fast food and the antisocial ways.

Have a great evening.

Blimey you were hungry @CantFindMyMarbles

Well….you know…that time of the month and everything! A girl’s got to eat 🤣

*Cineworld website:

Can I bring in my own food and drink?

Cineworld have a strict NO HOT FOOD OR ALCOHOL policy. We reserve the right to refuse customers entry into the screens with hot food or alcohol bought outside the premises.*

Well I book my tickets on line but I have never read the questions. Soz. Not starting now. I'll wait till they put a sign up.

I don't take hot food as it turns out. Just M&S treats. But if I wanted a Happy Meal ....

Thank god, hopefully you'll be extinct soon!

@AzureBlue99

Where do you stand on applebee's flask of tea and egg and onion sandwiches?

They're not fast food etc

Pinksparkles84 · 10/12/2023 18:02

Ewww I’m sorry but I wouldn’t. We don’t let our son eat McDonalds anymore as we can’t stand it and what they put in them so I am a bit biased. It would be nigh on impossible not to make a massive mess. I know snacks make a mess but I could imagine a kid making a huge mess trying to eat McDonald’s in the dark - let alone the smell.

This is a polarising discussion it seems.

Those who know how to behave in public and those who don't.

This is a polarising discussion it seems.

Those who know that everyone has rights and those who want only their rights recognized.

Already know which group is your bracket.

Though I'm not fond of some foods in the theater (popcorn, pizza, slurpy drinks), I've never been to a theater where food-food is allowed in or can be ordered. I also am not fond of people who OD themselves with perfume, talk when the movie is going on (whether to a child, friend, the screen, the phone), use their phone as if to see whether they missed the announcement that they won the Irish sweepstakes (or check IM's, emails, the Sephora sale, etc.) and a myriad of other dislikes. The difference between you and me is that I realize I am not the only person with rights and if the rules don't forbid it, the ONLY right I have is to either go or stay home. I am just not that precious, overbearing, demanding or entitled as you and some others seem to be.

Tryingmybestadhd · 10/12/2023 18:05

Go for it much cheaper and nicer anyway

greenbeansnspinach · 10/12/2023 18:06

Only a personal view - although that’s what AIBU is for of course!
I really dislike the smell of burgers, and if I’d gone to see a film I had been really looking forward to, it probably wouldn’t completely spoil the event for me but it would definitely be quite unpleasant. I’d be fed up if you were actually sitting near me.
Could you maybe take sandwiches? It’s another one of these “my right to eat a smelly burger trumps yours to enjoy a film without having to smell a smelly burger” type situations.

Nanaof1 · 10/12/2023 18:07

Bertiesmum3 · 10/12/2023 17:51

Very selfish
If I had to sit through a film smelling that vile food, I’d be complaining about you!
it’s the most revolting smell ever and also I’m allergic to cheese so if it had cheese on it, it would make me ill

So, you don't go to theaters that serve nachos or cheese pizza or cheese popcorn? Or is it only "certain" cheeses that affect you? 🙄

I hope you don't wear perfume or scented lotion anywhere. Many people are allergic to it.

Egg and onion are also really smelly.

AHFaemale · 10/12/2023 18:08

Why do people feel the need to eat watching a film?

kitsuneghost · 10/12/2023 18:09

Perhaps they need to have lower class and middle class showings so you can turn up with your mcDs and greggs or your houmous and olives as appropriate.

TonTonMacoute · 10/12/2023 18:10

Yuck. This is why I no longer go to the cinema.

AHFaemale · 10/12/2023 18:08

Why do people feel the need to eat watching a film?

Uuuhhhh...because they want to and for many, if not 99% of the population, having snacks during a movie adds enjoyment to the experience.

SocksAndTheCity · 10/12/2023 18:13

AHFaemale · 10/12/2023 18:08

Why do people feel the need to eat watching a film?

Why do you (and others) think people must be eating during a film because they 'need' to, rather than because they WANT to? Are you unfamiliar with the idea that not everything has to be a necessity?

Do none of you ever do anything beyond that which meets your basic physiological requirements for survival? You crack on, but I suspect most of us would prefer not to join you.

Because it's a treat and part of the experience.

🤣 best reply ever

I don’t particularly like the smell of cannabis … don’t mind smoked fish (I shared an office phone once with someone who ate smoked fish for lunch, so probably just as well !) And prefer the smell of both of these to burgers.
Thats not really the point though as whatever some people love in terms of smells, others will hate and vice versa.
My view would be, try to avoid bringing strong odours into an enclosed public space as whatever the smell is it is guaranteed to offend some. And is nice to try to take others’ feelings into account.
The poster was asking for opinions and she’s definitely succeeded in her goal.

Pickingmyselfup · 10/12/2023 18:18

Hmm I've put on weight recently yet haven't been to the cinema since July and before that 2022..

Anyway, for me a happy meal wouldn't be the end of the world but I think popcorn stinks, I don't personally like the smell but I deal with it because to me it's just part of being in public. When it comes to cinemas with hot food served then would it make any difference you being there with a happy meal as opposed to a hot dog with fried onions? I don't think it would tbh.

That said I would tend to do a meal before and after the film, I'm down with the snacks but for actual dinner or something I would want to just do that, plus it kind of prolongs the treat and makes it a bit more without it really being more if that makes sense.

Yes, McDonald's can be a treat. My kids get one every now and again usually because I can't be arsed to cook and I have nothing else in. They are definitely not fat because of their occasional McDonald's unlike me who is a bit on the heavier side of healthy because of my love for wine and cheese.

It’s to do with hot or pungent food, not the type of food. Houmous and olives are cold, so OK. A Greggs doughnut would be OK, a hot pie wouldn’t.

My local cinema, part of a chain, says that the cinema snacks you can eat/drink while watching the film are specifically: popcorn, sweets, soft drinks.
