To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

Our cinema is beside KFC and it's rank when someone 'sneaks' one in.

We go a lot, can't say I've ever especially noticed a smell from Nachos or hot dogs, but McDonalds, KFC etc pervades and lingers.

A month or so further back in my pregnancy I might well have thrown up on someone who sat down beside me in the cinema with a Zinger burger.

Have the Maccys before you go OP, and take some sweets in for the movie.

Only having one local cinema is the biggest first world problem I've ever heard.

Why the snark? Most of the threads on mumsnet can be distilled down to 'first world problems' if you wanted to be deliberately obtuse.

"Anyone got any advice on student accommodation at York Uni as my DD is starting there next year"

"There are kids in the eastern DRC who are fleeing conflict who don't even have acess to a tertiary education OP, talk about first world problems.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 12:05

Why the snark?

I think you've dished out your fair share of snark on here. Chill out.

KeepThisToYourself · 10/12/2023 12:06

I wouldn't be happy sitting next to someone who was eating that stinking, greasy crap

Not deliberately obviously, but the smell of hot chicken turned my stomach for a bit, so I avoided it wherever possible. Perhaps naively I'd have considered the cinema a pretty safe bet to be free of hot chicken.

As it happens chicken is one of my favourite things. Pregnancy is weird.

QuestionableMouse · 10/12/2023 12:08

Nuggets and fries really don't smell that much! Crikey, it's food, not toxic waste!

Out of interest, how many cinemas are in your area?

@fr4zzledmum loving your responses to the pearl clutchers on this post 🌟😂

hope you and your little one had a good time xxx

I really don't think some people know what a Happy Meal is.

God this thread. How do people cope in life.

It's fine, it's a happy meal not a fistful of joints and a smoked fish.

🤣 best reply ever

We had to endure a fairly bumpy 6 hour boat trip with a family behind us eating cold fried chicken, on and off but for the whole duration of the journey. That was not pleasant. There is are 2 onboard restaurants and bar where they could have gone to eat, instead they chose the quiet lounge area where people were trying to rest/not be sick. It was awful.

Why do you say that?
Knowing what it is means I know exactly what it smells like.
Absolutely fine in McDs, your own car/house, outside, absolutely not fine in an enclosed area where others are not partaking of the same food!
I eat McD's sometimes (not often as we have to sail and/or drive quite a distance to reach one), but I think the smell is quite strong and lingering - even if it's just fries/nuggets.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 12:30

single, cooling Happy Meal = stinking, greasy crap

Nah, I find that an over reaction

A KFC family bucket or a fully MCDs spread for adults possibly.

No, it’s not. It’s the mark of a selfish boorish person who thinks it’s all about them and doesn’t think about any inconvenience to others. That’s the opposite of a civilised society.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 12:33

It's like pool inflatables.

Are they suitable in the adult swim lanes? Nope

Are they suitable in the kids pool ? Yep

Is a a kids Happy Meal Ok at the tea time showing of a kids film?

Go for it.

People do this all of the time. I don't think that many people in RL are as sensitive as most of the posters on here, whose skin dries out if they shower every day and who gag at air fresheners 🙄

😂😂😂

A Happy Meal in the cinema is the sign of savagery?

Not it’s chavvy and selfish. Most cinemas don’t allow hot food because of safety, cleanliness and smells, I’d love to know what cinemas have hot nachos and hotdogs.

Do you run a cinema?

StoodySmithereens · 10/12/2023 13:09

A cold burger a treat? Just make them a sandwich to eat before you leave. Change treat night for when you have a spare 10 minutes.

Mercurial123 · 10/12/2023 14:17

Itsbritneybitch22 · 10/12/2023 10:47

@Mercurial123

No I can’t get worked up over a child eating a happy meal that might give a smell off for 5/10 minutes … it’s a happy meal not a dog shit taco.

Yes, they both smell awful that I agree with.

If only the situation hadn't been dealt with....

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 16:55

And now a small dry Happy Meal smells on a par with dog shit.

😂😂😂

Huhyou · 10/12/2023 17:03

I’m not overly precious with smells but someone else’s McDonalds always smells rank to me. Kind of like how you don’t mind your own farts but other people’s are horrendous.

I personally wouldn’t. Pack a sarnie for the car and go after?

I remember my first year at uni, stuck in traffic on Euston Rd. An entire family got their McD’s out and started eating whilst stood in the middle of a packed, damp bus. The ketchup and pickle smell….yuck.
