£201m jackpot on the Euromillions tomorrow. If you won, what is the first thing you're buying?

Stop worrying and relax!

H34th · 08/12/2023 14:00

I can confidently say that amount of money will solve all my problems.

Backtoreality1 · 08/12/2023 14:44

oooh.....just thought of something else! I would pay for all of my golfing friends and myself to go to a big resort somewhere really hot for golf and cocktails!

Aria999 · 08/12/2023 14:45

Spend it hiding from the feds as apparently it is illegal to play foreign lotteries if you live in America!

(I briefly considered getting a ticket inspired by this thread though I almost never play the lottery)

Longwhiskers · 08/12/2023 15:27

Oooh I’ve thought about this one lots! Alongside the usual pay off everyone’s mortgages and give siblings a few million each, I’d sink a good percentage in a charity that takes inner city school kids into the wilds to give them experiences like kayaking, sailing, outdoor adventure, bush craft, camping, stargazing etc.

SandyWaves · 07/12/2023 19:04

See i would never do that...how many friends do you have from 10 years ago?

I would wait 10 or 15 years before giving anything..

You would regret it

Being able to make lots of people I like so happy would be one of the best things about it for me! (But then, most of my friends I have known for well over ten years)

slore · 08/12/2023 16:11

Pay off my mum's mortgage.
Buy more solar panels and batteries and maybe a wind turbine.
Buy as much land as possible, for self-sufficiency and to provide habitats for nature.
Holiday somewhere warm.
Charity donations.
Go fund me donations.
...and most of all, facelift and nano fat and stem cell transfer.

muckymayhem · 09/12/2023 02:00

I won! ....£5 Xmas Envy

Catsmere · 09/12/2023 02:04

Get my mother into a good nursing home without being restricted to ones that take pension money as payment.

Stop having to worry about my finances ever again.

Rent a larger unit here at the retirement village. Maybe rent one for my sister when she's widowed and comes back to our state.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/12/2023 05:14

First thing... Book a luxury short break away!
I've been looking at houses to see if there is something we could buy, but can't find anything practical so decided we would just buy next door and make the two houses into one, plus put in a small indoor swimming pool and a lift. We like where we live and need something that is easy to manage due to increasing age and decrepitude.
We would give all our siblings, children and grandchildren some money, in trust for the grandchildren.
We would buy some new cars - never had a new car! Nothing overly extravagant - a practical 4x4, a small electric car for around town, and a comfortable cruising car for motorway journeys. This could be the 4x4 possibly.
We would get private healthcare - not because I don't trust the NHS (I work for the NHS) but because of the waiting times.
I would like to set up a charity to help single mothers without qualifications to get back into study - that was me and I couldn't have got where I am without help from my parents and even then it was a massive struggle. Not everyone has parents who can help.
I want a holiday cottage. I know exactly what I want and will know it when I see it. It is a 2 bedroom stone built fisherman's cottage right on the beach, probably in Cornwall.
And I want to have a cleaner and a gardener several times a week, have somebody to maintain the swimming pool, have fresh flowers, newspapers and magazines delivered every week, as well as being able to holiday when and where we want.
That's all. The rest can't be bought.

CeriB82 · 09/12/2023 07:37

I wouldn’t move nor buy a house. I love where i am. No neighbours, very rural.

id build a garage, pay off the mortgage, buy a car each for the kids. New york, new kitchen, bathroom.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 09/12/2023 07:42

Buy a house
buy my mums house so she doesn’t pay rent anymore
buy a horse
get lots of dogs
stop working
help my son out
buy the car of my dreams

Poppysmom22 · 09/12/2023 07:49

Tell no one. Buy a new car, get my dogs their pet passport, rent a yacht sail around greek islands while planning for the rest then come home buy my parents a house and sort out their retirement fund. Buy my brother and sister a house. Sort out my nieces student loans invest money into trusts for my niece's and nephews futures. Pay BFFs mortgage off and give lump sum to enjoy. Spend lots of brain power working out how to do all this in secret.

NalafromtheLionKing · 09/12/2023 09:47

I would send the first £200m to @edelweissnights “friend” to fund his extravagant lifestyle.

Then I would buy a BTL outright with the remainder.

NalafromtheLionKing · 09/12/2023 09:52

Or, failing that, I would become a property mogul and be happy that I never need to work again and my DC (and, one day, DGC) could do whatever jobs they want without financial pressure. Lots of amazing holidays and hobbies too.

StrictlyComeSnoozing · 09/12/2023 10:22

I wouldn't tell anybody. I wouldn't be paying off mortgages for anybody either because those who you'd typically do it for are also those who couldn't be trusted not to blab.

I'd do nothing really straight away, just mull it over and get used to it. Then I'd acquire some land to build on, and build a house to suit us.

I'd give most of it away to worthy causes. I couldn't imagine having so much wealth and not helping as many people as possible.

Aria999 · 09/12/2023 12:55

I would set up a fund for philanthropy, and give grants to a variety of different worthy causes. Running it would give me the part time, flexible job I am desperately trying to find 🤣

I would use some of the rest for frequent business class flights for us to visit family and vice versa. I would hire a nanny for these trips!

I would also try to keep it mostly secret but would help friends and family who needed it.

I would keep some back to be financially secure.

£3.20 here, too!

🙋

Untoldhassle · 09/12/2023 22:54

I would give at least half of it away to charities.
I'd buy a house on the seafront.
I'd buy an aircraft hanger and my mum could store all her hoarder stuff in there so she could live more comfortably. I'd buy my parents a new house and my brother too but my inlaws would get nothing.

A couple of friends would have new houses and cars anonymously.

Holidays Holidays Holidays.

A business for my sons who I worry about with jobs. Homes paid outright for them both.

A few properties to rent out and I'd be a caring landlord.

Holiday apartments in new York, Sydney, London & Paris for starters.

Staff paid for running all my holiday homes.

New cars but modest not too flash.

So much I'd do with that sort of money.

If I even had just a million I'd buy a house car and nice holiday.

mumda · 05/01/2024 18:28

I would give a lot of money to sex matters and similar organisations.

And buy a new car.

Ompompom · 26/02/2024 07:56

Obviously pay off all debt of ours and nearest/dearest.

Buy a big house, land and water somewhere in Cornwall and set up a glamping site with activities for the holiday makers and locals (think kayaking, climbing etc, as well as pottery and other crafty things) employ lots of lovely locals etc and try to use only local produce. It's our favourite place in the world but we can only afford to get down there once a year.

ViciousCurrentBun · 26/02/2024 09:04

I’m buying a huge house with land that’s many miles from my actual home. I would also buy a campervan and each of us the exact car we wanted. DH would retire now instead of in the two years he still has left. There would be a lot of holidays. I don’t post on SM at all so no one would have a clue.

I keep my current home so people can still assume I live my current life, when long term friends visit. I would tell zero friends or family. I wouldn’t be paying off anything for anyone. I wouldn’t want them to treat me differently plus you tell even one person well you may as well tell the world.

When the time came for DS to need a house I would buy him a house.

I would make various anonymous gifts to charity.
