£201m jackpot on the Euromillions tomorrow. If you won, what is the first thing you're buying?

First , the ticket would be split bt myself, son, sons father and my siblings, so 20 m ish each. I think id give a decent chunk split bt maybe two charities, one Irish, one global,... tho also maybe irish. Then id go on a long holiday including visiting my son who works abroad. And id decide over time how to spend the rest. I would give contribution in some way to secondary school my son went to, who were excellent, by boosting their library, and maybe contributing to some college expenses through competition.

ItsMyPartyParty · 07/12/2023 16:21

The first thing I’d buy on day one is an Aston Martin. Then book a mega holiday. Research specialist independent schools suitable for DC, buy a farm near one to keep DH occupied. Help out various friends/family.

Browse crowdfunding websites - pay off a load of random fundraisers.

Then what I’ve always fancied is to set up some kind of affordable rent to buy housing scheme for single mums. Too many friends trapped in soulless marriages because they can’t see how they could afford housing on their own.

katscamel · 07/12/2023 16:21

The first thing.......Upgrade my flight back to my parents for xmas to 1st class....and get a taxi from the airport instead of the train.

TisTheDarnSeason · 07/12/2023 16:23

Pack in job.

House in Hampstead. Nothing OTT but beautiful - and warm!

House in Tuscany. Apartment in NYC. New car for each of us (electric).

House for DF nearer to his friends. Any future care needs covered.

House for DS, student loan paid off. Money into trust for him (I want him to have lifelong security but also a career of his own!)

Pay off DB and SIL's mortgage, money into trust for my nephews. Buy DH's neice and nephew a house each.

Investments that will allow us a comfortable but not flashy lifestyle for the remainder of our lives. Just secure.

Rest to charities close to my heart (housing, women's refuges, mental health).

CagneyAndLazy · 07/12/2023 16:28

Definitely do something to help disadvantaged and neglected children - close to my heart due my own upbringing not being great. I'd get more pleasure and fulfilment from that than any material things I could buy for myself.

I can totally understand the spending on travel that many mention but, having been lucky in my work life, I've worked across pretty much the entire the world over the last 20+ years and I don't know if I could be bothered with so much more long haul. 😂

After making sure DD was set up for life, I would 100% help lots of family and friends to the extent that they were comfortable and had choices they may not have had otherwise. Plus, as someone else said, it would be boring to be the only absolutely loaded person in your circle when you thought of an amazing 'thing' you wanted to do and everyone else was tied to work!

I really, really don't know what I'd do for myself and DH in material terms. We truly want for nothing as it is - not wealthy but certainly comfortable - and there's honestly nothing material I want that I can't have right now.

I can't be the only one with such boring things on their list? 😂

SoMuchOfEverything · 07/12/2023 16:28

Stephisaur · 07/12/2023 15:29

Money to Charity (foodbanks, shelter, kicks count etc)
Pay off the mortgage
Pay for the extension
Pay off mine and DH's Credit Cards
Money into savings for DS
Gift house deposits to a couple of friends who won't ever get there on their own
A nice holiday for the 3 of us

This is the issue though, the people who win these sorts of amounts don't have detailed lists on what to spend the money on 😂I would also choose to stay anonymous.

🤣🤣 Yes, if only people had a bit of forethought! Well done to everyone on the thread so far for being organised enough to have a plan in place (especially those who drew their plan up 20+ years ago! 🤣)

OP posts:
GodspeedJune · 07/12/2023 16:29

Wow. That amount is incomprehensible.

The first thing I’d spend it on would be IVF! The cost is such a pressure and a worry, in an already challenging process. It would be such a relief to take the cost element out of the equation.

TisTheDarnSeason · 07/12/2023 16:30

Oh, and I have three friends whose mortgages I'd pay off and also would give them a lump sum. The rest are already considerably richer than me anyway 😆

BigDahliaFan · 07/12/2023 16:32

Go out for a lovely meal with friends and family and think up some kind of bullshit excuse rather than saying won the lottery.
Sit tight for a bit and think about it.
Buy a house with a garden.
House deposits for nephews and step children
Set up a foundation of some kind.
Retire.
Travel - buying a round the world business class ticket but not necessarily staying anywhere flash...

Auntieobem · 07/12/2023 16:32

I'd get another dog and employ a dog nanny

Shakeylegs · 07/12/2023 16:33

This is my favourite (non rude) fantasy, and I’ve thought about it a great deal!

I’d split it into thirds. First third I’d split between my friends and family, so that everyone would be mortgage-free and then some.

Second third would be for me and my family. Three or four houses, all the luxuries, kids education and futures sorted, and wisely invested to provide spending money for a great lifestyle forever.

Final third a charitable foundation that would keep me occupied. Grants to needy community causes, and a special focus on playgrounds. My kids had so much simple, wholesome, imaginative fun in playgrounds when they were little. I’d like to build dozens, all over the place, and give free access to them and maintain them forever.

bonzaitree · 07/12/2023 16:34

Tell my boss what I thought of her.

IncompleteSenten · 07/12/2023 16:36

A sandwich.

I've been on a low carb diet since February and if I won that jackpot I'd buy a fucking huge sandwich to celebrate.

I don't even want chocolate or cake or anything.

I'd celebrate millions with bread.

Bloody sad if you think about it 😁

Scruffington · 07/12/2023 15:30

I wouldn't leave my job but would probably go to 3 days a week.

People often say this but I wonder how many stick to it when they've suddenly got tens of millions in their bank account.

Something I'd do is read all the 'life ruined by lottery win' stories and take some notes! Maybe keeping your pre-win job is helpful in not going down this path.

(Personally I know I'd resign before the week was out though)

Yes, me too, I'm definitely not working for the lols! If I had cash in the bank I'd be long gone!

I would quit my job instantly and become a super employer, rather than an employee. I'd hire a chef and a cleaner and decorators and gardeners. I saw a post about a maid on here the other day - I'd quite like one of those too!

Frenchfancy · 07/12/2023 16:38

I want to set up something that will last for generations. Maybe a factory making something that is currently shipped from china. I'd set up apprenticeships and pay people a real living wage. Maybe even have some company accommodation on low rent.

I don't want to stop work and I want to make a lasting difference to my descendants.

evtheria · 07/12/2023 16:38

So, so, so many things! I tell you what though, my local cat rescue will not know what hit them.

RandomButtons · 07/12/2023 16:40

Buy a big castle with lots and lots of grounds and start a massive animal rescue centre.

Invest loads, then Fund everything that I could that is trying to save wildlife.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 07/12/2023 16:40

First I'd cry with joy! Then (in no particular order): buy a tiny cottage in Derbyshire; buy a car; get my teeth up to date with fillings etc; give a chunk to my brother; give a chunk to cat's rescue charities. Then I'd live on the interest and be very, very contented.

SoMuchOfEverything · 07/12/2023 16:40

Alohapotato · 07/12/2023 15:30

Yes, 3 million is enough? 😀

Yes please! 💷 💷 💷

OP posts:
evtheria · 07/12/2023 16:42

Oh, and did you know you can buy woodland?
I get the emails with listings and fantasise about buying up all over UK and setting up forest schools for all children to access.

CheshireCat1 · 07/12/2023 16:43

I’d probably give most of it away to family and charities and then start up a donkey sanctuary.

SoMuchOfEverything · 07/12/2023 16:43

MirandaWest · 07/12/2023 15:41

But to be honest it would be too much really

If you need help spending it, you only need ask x

Move and not tell anyone.

petalsandstars · 07/12/2023 16:45

Once the money hit the bank I’d quit my job and enjoy some time off.
Take the family to an island getaway with water sports and cocktails for a couple of weeks whilst we plan the next steps.

look into private schools for the DC, give my siblings enough to pay off the mortgages plus a bit more fun money, buy a house for my in laws.

I’d look to do some work with women’s aid locally to fund refuges.

Then take some time for me- outsource the cooking/cleaning and indulge in hobbies for a while.

RosaMoline · 07/12/2023 16:45

Resign.
Buy a place in Hampstead or Highgate. With an annexe for mum or my autistic adult DS to live in with a carer.
Never had a new car in my life. Not massively into cars as a status symbol so just the one will do!
Take DD and my closest girlfriends to Bliss Sanctuary in Bali (look at their instagram) for 2 weeks
Buy DD a place in Brighton. Help friends out.
Make a big donation to animal care in Egypt (ACE)

This would be just the start. Lots of holidays and booking of luxury venues to follow!
