What would you do with a euromillions mega win?

£201m jackpot on the Euromillions tomorrow. If you won, what is the first thing you're buying?

OP posts:
Scruffington · 07/12/2023 15:20

Buy a massive Thai banquet on uber eats plus champagne while I tried to process the news.

Book a week away somewhere lovely and let it really sink in and start hatching some plans

Wait 6 months before saying anything and then tell friends and family I'd won a 'mere' £8m.

Delphigirl · 07/12/2023 15:22

DH and I don’t bicker about how to spend a jackpot because we have a 20 year agreement that any win will be split - 50% to be used jointly for the family, 25% goes to him to do what he wants with it and 25% to me to do what I want to do with it. So the mortgage would be paid out of the 50% but I sort out my siblings out of my 25% and can’t complain if he gives his feckless sister cash out of his 25%.
of course we very rarely actually buy a ticket but the Jackpot Protocol is set in stone🤣🤣

SandyWaves · 07/12/2023 15:23

I am not going to tell a soul.

Lots to charity.

give kindly to strangers, randoms acts of kindness

Look after my DC for life

Buying houses in a few locations

madeinmanc · 07/12/2023 15:25

kiwimelonlime · 07/12/2023 15:17

Yes please!!

  • Buy DM the best, most experienced medical team I could to give her some quality of life
  • Sell House and buy a Seaside property in Devon / Dorset
  • Buy a Food Van to sell just Cream teas and travel all around Festival's with DH, 2x DCs and DDog in tow!

The second two are completely achievable in a normal life. I know someone who has this exact life actually (albeit a different food).

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/12/2023 15:25

As soon as it cleared I'd sent some money to my MIL for her hip operation. Then some to each of my children and pay off my debts.

After that, I'd be straight on Rightmove. I'd leave my house without a backward glance.

RenegadeMrs · 07/12/2023 15:25

That kind of money, I'd drag all my friends and family down with my by giving them £1-2 million each. No point being so wealthy all alone!

Then a home in London, and a chariable foundation. My new 'job' would be looking after it and giving it away to good causes.

WhatHaveIFound · 07/12/2023 15:26

I would give the first million to my SIL who is going through a tough time.

After that it'd be paying off our mortgage, new cars for DD & DS.

Catza · 07/12/2023 15:26

Buy a smallholding. Pay for my aunt's farmhouse refurbishment. Give some money to my partner so that he can finally have a holiday without worrying about his business. Get a house/flat in a warm country for my mum to retire to and take over all my grandmother's expenses - this should tot up to about a million. I wouldn't leave my job but would probably go to 3 days a week.

ConsuelaHammock · 07/12/2023 15:29

I’d buy land. A large estate with a lake. Then I’d invest the rest for future generations. I’d be very generous with my family and some friends.

Stephisaur · 07/12/2023 15:29

Money to Charity (foodbanks, shelter, kicks count etc)
Pay off the mortgage
Pay for the extension
Pay off mine and DH's Credit Cards
Money into savings for DS
Gift house deposits to a couple of friends who won't ever get there on their own
A nice holiday for the 3 of us

This is the issue though, the people who win these sorts of amounts don't have detailed lists on what to spend the money on 😂I would also choose to stay anonymous.

OneTC · 07/12/2023 15:29

I'd buy a car I've always wanted and drive to somewhere nice in Europe and sit down with OH and work out what we're going to do with it.

I would buy a place in London SE1 and a place in inner west Sydney a place near albaracin and a place near Fontainebleau and spend the rest of my life moving around from place to place depending on where was having summer.

I'd sort family and a few friends with it but not gonna pretend I'd do anything particularly altruistic with it

madeinmanc · 07/12/2023 15:29

Big house in a good area of London like Hampstead and same for my sibling, that would take a very large chunk of it.

The private healthcare I need.

Finally I'd support a young person from my town to go to Oxbridge or Imperial etc. every year.

SoMuchOfEverything · 07/12/2023 15:17

If you never buy a ticket, but do buy a ticket and win £201m, do I get a bonus fee for prompting you to get a ticket? 🙏

Yes, 3 million is enough? 😀

Scruffington · 07/12/2023 15:30

I wouldn't leave my job but would probably go to 3 days a week.

People often say this but I wonder how many stick to it when they've suddenly got tens of millions in their bank account.

Something I'd do is read all the 'life ruined by lottery win' stories and take some notes! Maybe keeping your pre-win job is helpful in not going down this path.

(Personally I know I'd resign before the week was out though)

outdooryone · 07/12/2023 15:33

As other said:

  1. Pay off mortgage.
  2. Buy my kids a modest house each.
  3. Make sure a couple of elderly family had a small gift.
  4. Finish work.
  5. Build my own new home.
  6. Set up a trust to quietly give away the other £199m before I die.
ntmdino · 07/12/2023 15:36

Pay off mortgage and debts, buy a bigger house with a decent-sized workshop.

House of their choosing + £100k for every family member (probably more for one brother, because he's had no luck in life and will never be able to earn a decent amount)

Fund a startup I was involved with, that went south because of a bad actor

Put £50m into building and funding a huge dog rescue for at least the next 10 years.

Maybe start a political party with the express goal of preventing any of the current government or their incompetent Opposition from ever seeing the inside of Parliament again.

TinkerTiger · 07/12/2023 15:37

My freedom.

Quitting my job and living my life.

teapotfullofsquash · 07/12/2023 15:38

Give my husband his half then ask for a divorce.

Then I would buy me and the kids a nice home, car, take them on holiday, put money in each of their accounts and give the rest away to family/friends/charities.

Live happily for the rest of my life. I'm definitely buying a ticket tomorrow.

Willyoujustbequiet · 07/12/2023 15:38

Set up a charitable foundation and give most of it away.

Have my own doctor on call. And chef.

TinkerTiger · 07/12/2023 15:39

Alohapotato · 07/12/2023 15:11

Have you all bought an euromillions ticket? I do dream about winning but I almost never buy a ticket so...

I just did Grin

Ariela · 07/12/2023 15:39

I inherited a small sum 7 years ago, and had great fun with a few thousand doing RAOK. One I paid someone's legal fees so she could properly contest a nasty ex. Another I sent off to a show with tickets she'd not been able to 'justify' the cost.
So I'd probably do the same - after splurging a few million on a nice country estate with few neighbours https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/140197919#/?channel=RES_BUY

Check out this Detached house for sale on Rightmove

Detached house for sale in The Whole |The Markwick Estate, Hambledon, Surrey, GU8 for £8,400,000. Marketed by Savills, Residential and Country Agency

MirandaWest · 07/12/2023 15:40

Pay off mortgage. Resign from work. Pay off car finance. Not sure what after that

MirandaWest · 07/12/2023 15:41

But to be honest it would be too much really

biostudent · 07/12/2023 15:44

Would definitely pay off the mortgage & my parents credit card, buy my parents and partner's mum a house and hire a medical team for round the clock care for my dad (very severely disabled). Give £5m to my parents and MIL, then £2m to my sister & each of partner's brothers. Buy a bigger nicer house (and hire a cleaner). Invest in 6-8 properties and rent out (constant source of income). Continue with degree, followed by Masters and PhD and work in chosen field of molecular neuroscience but live a lavish life that we've always dreamed of being able to give to the kids.

Cherrysherbet · 07/12/2023 15:46

Quit my job, book a world cruise and decide what to do. The very best thing would be knowing my kids are financially secure for life.

I would want to stay in my house, but it would be so amazing to be able to completely renovate it. I’d love to give my home some tlc.

I’d love to help out so many of my friends, but would be very wary about who I told about the win.
A local man won over a hundred million a few years back, he went public and his family had to leave the area. They got death threats and didn’t feel safe.
