To call the authorities - trigger warning

Just seen this by the bins, it is in good condition and there is a piece of fabric on it.
Recycling bin is accross the street
My first thought was: did they throw a baby in the rubbish?

OP posts:

I'm confused by the point of the post. Either you've checked the bins and know there's no baby. Or you haven't and you're wasting time on mn

FuckHonestlyKnows · 06/12/2023 20:26

Yeah, give 101 a call. They've got fuck all else to do, probably all sitting around playing poker waiting for someone to ring.

Shaggalicious · 06/12/2023 20:28

The pram isn't recyclable though. It would be general waste.

OftIwandered · 06/12/2023 20:30

Why is the bin area door open and a light on? That just looks messy and wasteful to me.

OP check if the pram is broken. It looks in good condition and odd to abandon with a blanket in it but maybe it is rubbish. Or maybe it is lost or stolen. Any of those scenarios are more likely than the idea that someone pushed a baby in a buggy to a bin area, threw the baby into the rubbish and then left the buggy outside. If there's a community fb page put up a post asking if anyone has lost a buggy. Perhaps move the buggy to a safer area so it isn't picked up by the binmen?

101 is not the same as 999, it's non emergency. Someone could go and check it out if they happen to be driving past at some point. They'd likely quickly conclude what everyone here has and that would be that.
I'm usually the first to say don't waste police/ambulance/a&e time, but there really is no harm in logging with 101 if you're extremely anxious about it.

Vitriolinsanity · 06/12/2023 20:34

Bit out there, but is it just possible they've parked it there while they go into a flat? Its a well lit area and the rubbish looks dry rather than food waste.

FuckHonestlyKnows · 06/12/2023 20:40

101 isn't there to assuage the anxious.

Tacotortoise · 06/12/2023 20:42

If you genuinely think someone has thrown away a baby then why on earth aren't you out there looking for it?

Redglitter · 06/12/2023 21:24

Oh the MN answer to everything - logging it with 101. The system really doesn't work the way people on here think it does. In this scenario what's to 'log' someone dumped something at a bin.

They're not going to log something just to reassure the OP because she has an over active imagination

You think if someone calls 101 and says they think a baby has been put in the bin they will juts have someone pop by when they are next passing Confused

For one thing they'll want more reason for thinking the baby's in the bin other than a pram has been put in an area clearly marked rubbish. From what the OP has posted it wouldn't warrant any attendance

eandz13 · 06/12/2023 20:04

I have OCD and this is the type of shit my head would come up with too.
Dramatic? Yes. Can I help it? No, I'd worry about it for ages.

So check the bins and thrn you know for certain.

Murphs1 · 06/12/2023 21:36

So shocked at you all mocking the op and laughing at her question. She’s Worried and looking for reassurance. Shame on you all.

FuckHonestlyKnows · 06/12/2023 21:37

We can't reassure her! If she's worried she should go and check. What are we supposed to do?!

Murphs1 · 06/12/2023 21:39

It’s the tone of the thread, having a laugh at the op’s expense

FuckHonestlyKnows · 06/12/2023 21:44

It's very similar to a recent thread where someone had left a pair of kids shoes on the pavement and loads of people were suggesting 'logging it with 101'. As if someone kidnapped a child and neatly lined their shoes up at the roadside as evidence.

I'm not going to be shamed for recognising a ridiculous post.

Murphs1 · 06/12/2023 21:47

@keye well good for you. The op is obviously distressed about this and the majority of posters are having a good laugh at her which I think is horrible.

Foxsoxandgloves · 06/12/2023 21:48

If there's any bathwater nearby, that's the time to call 101

Distressed?

She thinks a baby has been put in the bin, based on nothing. She hasn't called the police or searched the bins but run to mumsnet and you think she is distressed?

Murphs1 · 06/12/2023 21:57

Why else would you post about it on MN unless you were worried?

Did you check the bins? Tbh I think it's just a pram.

IHS · 06/12/2023 22:56

People shouldn't be laughing at others.
