To call the authorities - trigger warning

Just seen this by the bins, it is in good condition and there is a piece of fabric on it.
Recycling bin is accross the street
My first thought was: did they throw a baby in the rubbish?

Maybe they've left the pram prominently in case anyone who needs it wants to take it?

So rather than check the bins/call for help as you think a tiny baby is in the bin area, you come on mn?!
Tragically this has happened frequently in the States.

I checked the bins by sight as I could and was attentive for noises but nothing noticeable, thankfully

that is the point though

the area designated for this and the recycling items are literally less than 10 steps away

Glad you put a trigger warning though, a picture of a dumped pram is quite traumatic. Maybe make the image sensitive?

Maybe call a prambulance?

😂

Ardith · 06/12/2023 19:46

OP I think the most likely thing is that someone had very heavy rubbish to get rid of and used the buggy to carry the rubbish bags there. Then dumped the buggy.

Another option is that the buggy is broken in some annoying way and they dumped the buggy and carried the baby home.

It is possible they dumped the actual baby, but it seems unlikely, as one would expect either the buggy to be hidden as well as the baby, or the baby to have been abandoned still in the buggy. Sadly if there really was a baby’s body thrown away there is nothing you can do for it.

The internet can mock you but you’re the only person there, one option is to give the bags nearest the buggy a quick shape to see if any seem like a baby’s body. I do know someone who found a dead body that had been disposed of in a bin bag (they saw a hand sticking out) so it does happen but as I said it seems unlikely.

So instead of laziness you've assumed they threw a baby away instead? Also not a newborn pram 😆

Bellsandthistle · 06/12/2023 19:47

Do not waste police time with this.
If you are that concerned, go fishing through the rubbish yourself.
Please post pictures to keep us updated/entertained.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 06/12/2023 19:50

You've reached a completely different conclusion than me. I'd have just assumed the pram was being disposed of. However, if I had reached your conclusion that a BABY was dumped, I'd have been in there ripping every single one of those bags open looking for it, not posting for opinions on Mumsnet 😳

Melodysmum12 · 06/12/2023 19:50

One would assume they didn’t want to carry it up the stairs so left it there and took baby upstairs not put in the bin. I worry about your thought process!!

CantFindTheBeat · 06/12/2023 19:54

Blimey.

OP has said there is a pram, in good condition, with what looks like a baby blanket in it, just dumped.

And she's worried that a baby might have been dumped too.

That's NOT impossible, people. There are some very distressed people around these days. There's a case in the US right now that's tragic.

OP - I'd give 101 a call and explain what you've seen. No harm at all in doing that,

AngelAurora · 06/12/2023 19:55

Dramatic much OP?

People have all kinds of mental illness?

Well, that's certainly true.

Mouthouch · 06/12/2023 20:01

It is a bit weird. Looks like a nice pram. Someone might have nicked it and left it at the bins to see if anyone saw them/ comes for it.

Comedycook · 06/12/2023 20:02

I once took my baby out shopping. Got back to the car. Took baby out of pushchair and put him in car seat. Drove off and realised down the road that I hadn't put the pushchair back in the car. Drove back and retrieved it from pavement.

eandz13 · 06/12/2023 20:04

I have OCD and this is the type of shit my head would come up with too.
Dramatic? Yes. Can I help it? No, I'd worry about it for ages.

Comedycook · 06/12/2023 20:04

But anyway, my first thought is someone stole it and dumped it

IWIllDoItNowInAMinute · 06/12/2023 20:08

I would think teenagers had stolen it and after messing about with it dumped it. Or someone has gone into the flats with the baby and left the pram outside not even noticing they’ve put it by the bins.
If they had thrown the baby in the rubbish I don’t think they would leave the pram like an arrow pointing to it. They would have more likely left the baby in the pram too if they wanted someone to notice.
I think you are overthinking it.

TurkeyTrotToXmas · 06/12/2023 20:10

If you are worried go and check yourself. I'm sure it'd be pretty obvious if there was a baby in the bins.

Headband · 06/12/2023 20:10

Like a pp said , maybe someone put the baby in the car and forgot to put the pram in , someone else has found it and thought it was dumped so moved it to the bins .
Or kids have nicked it from outside a flat and dumped it by the bins.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 06/12/2023 20:11

If they'd thrown the baby out they would have thrown the bathwater as well. Is there a puddle?

lesdeluges · 06/12/2023 20:14

My biggest take on this is that I really hope the pram doesn't go in the bin, and that someone who desperately needs one will get it. Looks in good nick to me.

RedRedScab · 06/12/2023 20:16

What the hell? Unwanted stuff is usually left near bins so it can be taken away, no?

OP. Do not ever commit a crime. You'd be shit at it.

MammaTo · 06/12/2023 20:23

Well jump in and find out - have a mooch

Kedece2410 · 06/12/2023 20:23
