Not sure what to think of this comment at my son’s parents evening

He's 5 and in reception. It was his first parents evening.
Teacher said mostly positive things and that he’s very fun and clever, picks things up quickly.

In a joking way she said “he’ll either take over the world or destroy it”
I laughed it off , but when I told a friend she was quite shocked and thought it wasn’t funny or appropriate.

Your overthrowing it. I'm guessing he is strong willed with forceful personality

Sunandsea26 · 06/12/2023 09:09

Oh gosh your friend is way too sensitive - that’s her complimenting him and a way of sayi.ng he will do good things. I wouldn’t be offended

Lostthewilltolive1970 · 06/12/2023 09:42

Your friend needs to give her head a wobble 🤯

ColesCorner7814 · 06/12/2023 10:16

I’d ditch that friend - she sounds like a drain, sapping the humour out of the situation and turning it into something it isn’t. Surround yourself with positive people.

WrongSwanson · 06/12/2023 10:22

We say this about two of our children. We don't mean it literally (well...)

It just means they are a bit of a force to be reckoned with - bright, energetic...

We do make sure they have plenty of activities to channel some of that energy

maddiemookins16mum · 06/12/2023 10:36

I’d be delighted the teacher considered my child so strong and confident.

Hlly · 06/12/2023 10:45

Your friends sounds like one of the ‘I’m offended by everything and anything’ brigade

Blackdore · 06/12/2023 10:57

Thanks for all the comments, it was genuinely a friend who said this not a made up friend.
I will definitely take it as a compliment as sounds like that’s how she meant it.

It’s just a joke nothing more so don’t worry. Basically your child has personality & that’s good

Ndhdiwntbsivnwg · 06/12/2023 13:25

I think (having one of these kids myself) it’s quite funny and your friend is acting like a stick is up their ass

Caravaggiouch · 06/12/2023 13:27

Christ, who’d be a teacher? This is not remotely offensive. I’d probably take it as a compliment about my child!

alrighthen · 06/12/2023 13:54

I’d think it was a really positive thing to say! He’s clearly capable and a strong personality. The fact it’s lightly mocking probably means the teacher is fond of him too.

qotsa · 06/12/2023 13:56

@StopWithYourNonsense @andHelenknowsimmiserablenow I agree. God. True story. Chill people. Have a laugh. Don't get offended at everything

Elly46 · 06/12/2023 14:01

I have a 6year old boy. This is lighthearted and would not bother me.

boohooloo · 06/12/2023 14:34

Must every comment be sanitised? So tiresome and boring.

marienylonette · 06/12/2023 15:07

He's not call Gru, is he??! 🤣

NannaKaren · 06/12/2023 17:45

Aw it’s a throw away comment - your DS will
do well

Golightlygoodnight · 06/12/2023 17:52

It's a compliment!

My best friends dad commented (to my BF) the first time that he met me "Well, she's destined for either Hollywood or Holloway". Best comment on my character I'd ever received and taken wholly in the spirit that I'm not another dull grey schmuck.

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 06/12/2023 17:58

My God, people get worked up over the comments on here.
as for teachers comment - it was said in fun !

H007 · 06/12/2023 18:17

Your friend needs to give her head a wobble.

BooBooDoodle · 06/12/2023 18:44

Our youngest has had similar said since he started school. He’s spirited and has energy. Don’t take any offence. This is a huge compliment. Your son will go far

Wimin123 · 06/12/2023 18:47

It’s all so tedious now - I pity any person who has a sense of humour in this dystopian society. Some people take things and themselves far too seriously. It’s so boring day in and day out.

bananamangoes · 06/12/2023 18:57

My reception teacher told me my kid is hard work

i didn’t take offence. It’s true

FreddieMercurysCat · 06/12/2023 18:57

I’d be punch proud if my son’s teacher said that. Nothing to be offended at and I found it quite amusing.

Snowflakeslayer · 06/12/2023 20:02

Nothing offensive there, it makes sense and is amusing and friendly.
