Young as in young in life.

For example, I think these discounts are pretty good:

The Senior Railcard is a Railcard specifically for senior citizens. It gives people aged 60 and over 1/3 off train fares throughout Great Britain.

If you don't think you're a senior citizen at 60 then I presume you refuse the discount?

"If you live in London, you can travel free on buses, tubes and other transport when you’re 60, but only within London.
In Wales you can get a bus pass when you reach 60."

Your colleague who retired at 70 retires after his/her pension age as it's not 70 for anyone yet.

@Gwenhwyfar - how nice for them, but I can assure you I can't get my bus pass until I reach state pension age. I'm pretty certain that isn't the only area that applies to.
Asking around recently early-retired friends, I'm not convinced there are many other discounts either.

The railcard is a third off. That makes quite a difference. State pension age is still in the 60s so people saying they're not old until 75 can decline their bus pass I suppose.

Many would not be able to afford to retire at state pension age. It's 66 now, I think? So an OAP would be 66+
