Young as in young in life.

OP posts:

I agree about middle age, @Ocani . I’m 49 and I’m middle aged, but I don’t see how 60+ can be…how many 120-year-olds are around?!

Tbh, we turn into older adults about 55, even if we don’t want to admit it. Definitely by 60.

Rewis · 02/12/2023 22:05

Depends on the context. But if it is totally without context the I'd say no, it isn't.

HellInABasket · 02/12/2023 22:07

Its relative. When I was 14, I though 20 was REALLY old.
Anyone over the age of 29 will think 29 is young

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/12/2023 22:07

Not this age thing again.

Neolara · 02/12/2023 22:08

Oh yes.

Ocani · 02/12/2023 21:46

I know I keep saying it but people don't seem to realise that 80+ = dead, most likely.

Unless you’re my Dad (85) @Ocani , he’s on the hunt for a new girlfriend. His last romance hasn’t worked out, but they’re still friends (she’s 83). 🤣

Uurrjb · 02/12/2023 22:16

I’d expect someone over 25 to be able to make careful measured decisions

so 29 is young in years but should have some life experience

bakewellbride · 02/12/2023 22:21

Anything under 40 is young in my books unless we are talking about specific things e.g learning to drive, having a baby etc.

AvengedQuince · 02/12/2023 22:23

Ocani · 02/12/2023 21:46

I know I keep saying it but people don't seem to realise that 80+ = dead, most likely.

One 80 year old I know is still working as an automotive mechanic with no plans to retire. Several others are still very active, growing kitchen gardens, building sheds from scrap, stacking firewood, taking care of others.

CaspianPlover · 02/12/2023 22:28

In the early 1980s aged 27 expecting my 4th child I was classed as an ‘elderly’ mother, I kept the maternity card as I was both horrified and amused by it. Late 60s now and still feel - mentally - like I did in my 20s.

Grimmz · 02/12/2023 22:31

I don't see how anyone could regard the 20s as anything other than young. But I guess it's relative.

Changednayme · 02/12/2023 22:32

No

Wherearemykeysagain · 02/12/2023 22:37

Yes it's young. Not in a derogatory way.

Wherearemykeysagain · 02/12/2023 22:40

0-18 child/teen
18-25 very young adult
26-35 young
36-46 adult
46 - 59 middle aged
60-69 older
70 plus either older adult or elderly entirely depending on your health and mental wellbeing.

Mariposista · 02/12/2023 22:41

Sonolanona · 02/12/2023 18:19

I had four children by 29... and was a responsible adult!
My DD1 is 31 and a GP... and I think she looks too young to be a doctor Grin
It all depends on which end of the age scale you are looking from!!!

That is when you start feeling old!
I am just a bit older than your daughter and the other week had to go to hospital with a very sudden, severe eye infection. The opthalmologist treating me literally looked like a teenager to me! He was probably about 30. Knew his stuff though. But made me feel old. haha

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/12/2023 22:42

Yep, a baby adult. Nit yet fully matured brain

FelicityFlops · 02/12/2023 22:45

That is a difficult question to answer.
My younger niece is 29 and mature with a wise head on her, so, whilst the "number" is young, the person is fine.
I have a friend, who is 58 and can be an immature idiot!
i think it is a question of maturity over chronology.

For balance, I should add that I am chronologically 65, but feel about 26 :-)

Ocani · 02/12/2023 22:46

As I said, you can be fit/healthy at any age if you're lucky. Although as you get older it's relative - I mean, whatever you do you won't have the heart/lung capacity or muscle mass you did twenty years previous and your brain function will also have declined. And there's nothing wrong with that nor is it shameful or insulting to acknowledge it.

And life expectancy in the UK is 80. Great if you can get beyond that, really all power to you. But, you probably won't.

Bloodyel · 02/12/2023 22:49

In my view up to 40 is young, but there are of course varying degrees of young. A 29 year old is less young than a 19 year old. At 40, you're not very young at all anymore. Mid 50s/60, you're old. Nothing wrong with being old though, I know it's commonly said but it is true that ageing is a privilege.

Grimmz · 02/12/2023 22:31

I think I see most adults as just adults. I work with adults from 18 to 70 and no one older than 21 acts noticeably 'young' at all.

BlueGrey1 · 02/12/2023 23:00

Relatively young yes, but old enough that they should have sense.
Why, it seems like you are trying to justify something

BlueGrey1 · 02/12/2023 23:05

@SwordToFlamethrower

Yep, a baby adult. Nit yet fully matured brain

Wouldn't agree with this comment at all, they are a fully grown mature adult, of course they have a matured brain….why on earth would you even think this

SuffragettesAreRollingInTheirFuckiingGraves · 02/12/2023 23:08

Yes. Being in your 20's is to be young. Relatively speaking.

Draconis · 02/12/2023 23:09

I see up to 30 as young. Many choices are still open regarding career and opportunities. Young enough to start on a life path if not already done so.
Probably still look youthful and plenty of time to meet a partner and have children.

notahappybunny7 · 02/12/2023 23:10

Yes 29 is young
