I can't cope with Christmas already

It's December 1 and I've already had enough. The trees, the boasting, every house has lights up, polar breakfasts, the elf, light trails, piles of gifts, multiple trees, giant nutcrackers, bannister decorations, bloody door decorations, children getting gift after gift and that's just to celebrate December 1.... I could cope with that just about but the social media boasting OMG it's awful this year.

We've lost it. We've lost what Xmas really is about. I'm not religious particularly but for me it's about family. A break from work, quality time with family and friends. It is not about how many likes I get on Facebook showing of my candy cane and holly front door surround!

Is it just me or is Christmas on steroids this year?! What is going on?

I do wonder why you think posting this stuff on social media is boasting? I love to see my friends ‘elf on the shelf’ posts. It’s good for inspiration and the kids go mad for it, they’re delighted by it. I also like seeing what they get up to, xmas light trails etc.

Some people definitely use sm to boast/brag, it is a thing…

@TheHappiestChristmasTree I get why people might want the lights up early to cheer them up it’s the ones who decorate early but take it all down on boxing day that confuse me!

I haven't really noticed it being anymore 'extra' than usual. But I'm pretty immune to other people's boasting. Spend less time on social media if it's bothering you. You do you.

Oh I know! Leave them until after New Year!

The very first response, from @NuffSaidSam nailed it. Nothing more needs adding.

I love all the pretty posts!

I decorate my house for me and ds, and it's my favourite thing to do.

Christmas is a hard time of year for a lot of us, and some of us find joy in these things.

I think it it bothers you, then don't look at it.

I don't see posting these things as boasting, just sharing what makes others happy.

I look at social media a fair bit and just take it for what it is, a load of people either having a bit of fun or trying to make out their life is perfect when it's not or have been brainwashed by the influencers to make Christmas 'magical' .
I kind of feel sorry for those that jump on the bandwagon and do Christmas boxes or elf on the shelf or whatever new fad comes along (and then moan about having to do it) . Just because Stacey Solomon or whoever does it, doesn't mean everyone has to.

I agree and I really can’t stand the consumerist madness people seem to get possessed by. I put the tree up and let the kids decorate it as they enjoy that. We may do 1 or 2 local events (free or very cheap such as the lights switch-on and a family party). A nice home-cooked meal and a few low-key presents and that is it. They do carols at school and as we are not religious, we rarely attend church events. Try to avoid the pressure and unfollow the show-offs and the #soblessed brigade.

I think I saw the same pic and I didn’t have the same reaction to it. It gave me the impression of pride and love. Possibly I’m naive but it made me smile and then I scrolled past.
