Changednayme · 30/11/2023 21:51

I have some lentils and tinned beans in but no meat. Will it make me feel unwell to go without meat whatsoever for a week

No it won’t make you unwell, your guts may even thank you!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/11/2023 21:54

You'll be fine.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 30/11/2023 21:55

No it will not make you 'unwell'. Many people stay vegetarian for years, so you should be fine eating like this for one week.

Not sure how you expect people to vote.
YABU for asking. YANBU for not eating meat.

Inastatus · 30/11/2023 21:55

plenty of people live their whole lives without meat, I think you’ll be ok for a week.

Kpo58 · 30/11/2023 21:55

If you only ate meat, then it might make you unwell. As that is unlikely to be the case then go for it, but don't just substitute the meat that you would normally have eaten for processed crap.

Almondmum · 30/11/2023 21:58

Why do you think it would make you unwell? I'm vegetarian and felt no different when I turned veggie than when I ate meat.

MadeOfAllWork · 30/11/2023 21:59

Christ almighty. I’ve not eaten meat for 25 years. I’m still alive.

Nofilteritwonthelp · 30/11/2023 22:00

😑

Mademetoxic · 30/11/2023 22:00

How do you think I've managed to be a vegetarian for 20 years.

idontlikealdi · 30/11/2023 22:00

How would it make you unwell?

user1471453601 · 30/11/2023 22:01

My daughter is a vegetarian and has been for over 40 years. She's the healthiest person I know. She's had antibiotics twice in her life and three days off work ever.

I very much doubt going seven days without meat will harm you.

GHSP · 30/11/2023 22:01

Well I’ve only been doing the same thing for several decades, and I haven’t yet suffered ill effect.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 30/11/2023 22:01

I’ve managed 32 years and still breathing, last time I checked.

jc12689 · 30/11/2023 22:02

That's the sort of question a 3 year old would ask 😄

Multipleexclamationmarks · 30/11/2023 22:02

Why would it Make you unwell??

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:05

For a week I'm pretty sure you'll be absolutely fine ( although I'm not a nutrionist or dietitian). However if you go veggie or vegan long term I think you should seriously research your diet. I sadly stepped back from a vegan diet as I couldn't fathom how to get enough methionine into my diet. I could however just be being thick....

FourteenTog · 30/11/2023 22:06

boil the lentils really hard for 10 minutes before simmering. maybe even soak them before cooking. these steps help reduce effects of gassiness and bloating. especially if you are not used to eating lentils, it's worth taking the extra step or two. not eating meat won't make you sick, but it's not what your body is used to, either.

pacora · 30/11/2023 22:07

Oh dear. I haven't eaten dead animal for over 30 years. I'm still here.

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:09

Pacora, that's very emotive. Why?

pacora · 30/11/2023 22:10

Nodairyforme...I'm confused. What is "very emotive"?

Ploctopus · 30/11/2023 22:11

I’ve managed not to die in the course of a decade of vegetarianism so I reckon you can chance it.

Ploctopus · 30/11/2023 22:11

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:09

Pacora, that's very emotive. Why?

🤣🤣🤣

PercyPigInAWig · 30/11/2023 22:15

@Nodairyforme the response by @pacora is factual and reflects the views of a person who is vegetarian or vegan for animal rights reasons.

I do eat meat most days, not eating it won’t harm me but eating lentils for a week would make my IBS flare wildly (I do love lentils but they don’t love me).

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:17

Pacora...Ok.... Factually correct. Do you want the moral high ground? I was a vegan ( ethical reasons) for quite a while. Then I realised my health was being compromised. Maybe my fault for not doing the research...thing was, I had...and then the more I looked, the more I realised I maybe hadn't appreciated the science... maybe my bad...or maybe not. I don't know. What I do think now is a long term vegan diet, if it can be healthy, needs a VERY serious research. Just my observation though.

AdoraBell · 30/11/2023 22:18

No, that won’t make you ill. Should be fine, do you ideas of cooking the lentils? If not there are 1000’s of options on 100’s of websites.
