Changednayme · 30/11/2023 21:51

I have some lentils and tinned beans in but no meat. Will it make me feel unwell to go without meat whatsoever for a week

Is this actually a real question?? It's 2023, vegetarianism is a very normal thing.

catwithflowers · 30/11/2023 22:20

🙄

bakewellbride · 30/11/2023 22:24

I am much healthier now as a vegan as confirmed by a blood test. So I'll stick with it. Before that I was a vegetarian for many years & before that I was a pescatarian for 16 years. I've always been healthy.

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:28

Bakewellbride, my blood tests were great. Just bear amino acids in mind ( and if you can find the methionine ( and possible lysine ) answer please pm me). I would love to find the answer!

bakewellbride · 30/11/2023 22:29

I don't know what those things are and have never heard of them sorry! I just take a multivitamin

Allfur · 30/11/2023 22:30

Welcome to the 21st century op

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:31

Look into it. Seriously. I did the same as you...I got ill.

EmmaEmerald · 30/11/2023 22:32

Generations of my family have been vegan and lived to 95. What a bizarre question.

bakewellbride · 30/11/2023 22:33

@Nodairyforme I feel better than ever and eat a really healthy and balanced diet based carefully on the nhs vegan diet guidelines so I don't understand how I could get ill from that, sorry.

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:34

And I would definitely advise that you seriously consider a B12 supplement ( and look into the difference between methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin)

bakewellbride · 30/11/2023 22:36

@Nodairyforme I already mentioned that I take a supplement. No idea what those 2 long words are, sorry. Can we agree to disagree 👍🏻

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:37

And sorry Bakewellbride, I'm not trying to be aggressive but please just look into amino acids and how to get a proper spread on a vegan diet. I couldn't figure it out and I did tons of research. Obviously it's entirely up to you though. I stepped back from veganism because I personally couldn't, in the end, see how to make it work.

Drhow · 30/11/2023 22:38

Barely touched meat since I was 12 and I’m fine, as you will be.

Moonface31 · 30/11/2023 22:38

I haven't eaten meat since 2005 and I'm still alive - you'll be fine

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 22:41

And sorry, last post. The B12 thing is REALLY important. Please look into those words ( methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin) if you don't do anything else, or ask a pharmacist about them x

PickAChew · 30/11/2023 22:42

Ye'll be 'right.

But @bakewellbride has repeatedly said she’s fit and healthy 🤔

Screamingabdabz · 30/11/2023 22:49

Jeez do people really think like this? ‘Unwell’ if they don’t eat meat for a week… ffs. 🙄

Many meat eaters have dangerous diets and die from it. I doubt the average person puts that much thought into their diets.

Nodairyforme · 30/11/2023 23:02

Yeah, ok I'm absolutely not an expert. Just please, please do the research for yourselves.

glossypeach · 30/11/2023 23:05

I’ve been vegan for 7 years and I’m perfectly healthy, not unwell. No deficiencies. I’m sure you can last week with no meat. 🙄

Is some of this genetic, what kind of diet suits people? There's a serious longevity problem in my family with everyone living too long, and my grandparents and greatgrandparents would never have been aware of such things. Physical work too.

But...I suppose farming methods were completely different and food was much fresher.

I honestly think people who have been vegan for decades are very knowledgeable on what they eat 😆.

AHouseOnMemoryLane · 30/11/2023 23:48

A week, of course you won’t be unwell.

I’ve been vegan for 24 years, vegetarian for 10 years before that
and I’m rarely ill.

aswarmofmidges · 30/11/2023 23:49

Why would you become unwell?
For longer term health Eat a balanced diet - easy if you include some dairy and eggs
