I have some lentils and tinned beans in but no meat. Will it make me feel unwell to go without meat whatsoever for a week

Bakewellbride, my blood tests were great. Just bear amino acids in mind ( and if you can find the methionine ( and possible lysine ) answer please pm me). I would love to find the answer!

I just read about six papers on methionine, the consensus of which is that methionine is available from a large number of vegan food sources (nuts, seeds, pulses - virtually anything with protein has methionine), that eating a varied plant-based diet will in almost all circumstances provide a person with sufficient dietary methionine, and that excessive methionine consumption is linked with higher rates of cancer.

Why are you so worried about it?!

Zamzamzamdeedah · 01/12/2023 06:13

I have a feeling OP is asking more about if eating just lentils and beans will make her unwell rather than proper balanced veggie diet.

Zamzamzamdeedah · 01/12/2023 06:15

May just give her ton of gas if the belly is not used to it

GreyhpundGirl · 01/12/2023 07:01

I've been veggie for 38 years and am in rude health. If you don't eat enough fibre normally you might get gassy, but if you have a balanced diet, as opposed to meat being 75% of your meals you'll be fine.

Magenta82 · 01/12/2023 07:27

You are getting a bit of a hard time here OP, perhaps you could let us know what in particular you are worried about?

TiptoeTess · 01/12/2023 07:50

Is this one of those pre-xmas threads where the OP comes back saying she’s got one tin of beans to last her till payday and then MNers fall over themselves to send stuff?

NotFastButFurious · 01/12/2023 07:52

Not eating meat won't do you any harm but if you only eat tinned beans and lentils for a week you might find there’s a few side effects! 💩

kneehightoacat · 01/12/2023 07:56

Is it the 1950s?

You don't need meat to feel healthy

If it is, I think it’s been a huge fail. 😂

MarthaMayWho · 01/12/2023 08:23

Misread methionine as methadone. Which actually makes more sense as a well planned vegan diet is perfectly balanced and won't make you ill.

We should all be using b12 supplements anyway as soil quality means most meat eaters eat cows injected with b12 as they aren't getting it naturally. Vegan cuts out the middle man.

Is this vegan ready steady cook? I've no idea what i could do with those ingredients?

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 01/12/2023 08:42

It'll probably do you good.

FourteenTog · 01/12/2023 08:49

Somehow this thread makes me want to live on cheese for a week.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/12/2023 08:52

If you never eat pulses and you suddenly eat lots you might have a bit more wind but that's it

Allthatglittersisntart · 01/12/2023 09:12

No. I have been vegetarian for two decades. It may give you ‘detox’ symptoms if you suddenly add more fibre to your diet though.

SallyWD · 01/12/2023 09:14

I haven't eaten meat for 28 years. You'll be fine. If anything, you'll feel better.
