to wear my Oodie in the cinema?

I'm the kind of person who feels the cold very easily, and my local cinema is always freezing. I usually wear my coat throughout the performance, but it's always a bit uncomfortable. But then I remembered my Oodie which is very warm, and perfect for relaxing in and watching a movie. The Oodie in question is clean and plain navy so won't look garish or (I hope) be too obvious to anyone walking by. The cinema will be dark anyway and it's one of the fancy cinemas with reclining seats so space isn't an issue. I won't wear the Oodie into the cinema, I'll bring it in a bag and change there (and use my coat as a blanket for my legs if needed).

I thought this was the perfect plan, but I mentioned it to DH and he looked horrified. So is this plan genius or a terrible idea?

No one will care.
And if they did, their opinions are irrelevant to the the rest of your life

Sarvanga38 · 30/11/2023 12:51

Why on earth would your husband care what you are wearing to keep yourself warm and comfortable, when no-one (including him) will be able to see you in the dark anyway. Mind you, I wouldn't care if they could.

GimmeSleep · 30/11/2023 12:52

I hate the cinema as I'm always too cold, I would definitely wear my oodie :)

matthancockscareer · 30/11/2023 12:53

Do it! Nobody cares, I take a blanket, flask of tea and a sandwich when I go.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 30/11/2023 12:53

I think it's a brilliant idea, go for it!!

Mind you I have special cinema trousers and cinema socks that I change into when I get there, so I have no shame.

For me, it’s the equivalent of wearing a onesie or pyjamas in public and so isn’t acceptable.

However, there have been many, many threads on this that show plenty of people think it’s fine so it’s really up to you.

IWroteTheOther51 · 30/11/2023 12:54

I've done it multiple times.

Floralnomad · 30/11/2023 12:55

Do whatever you want , we were at Disneyland Paris over Halloween and there were lots of people wearing Oodies . I wouldn’t do it personally but I can’t get worked up about other peoples choice of attire .

AdrianaLaCerva · 30/11/2023 12:56

I wear mine everywhere and love it. That’s probably because I went feral during lockdown and have never looked back!

A perfect answer to this and a good proportion of the other AIBUs.......

Newbie2808 · 30/11/2023 12:56

OH and I went to the cinema on Halloween and were both freezing. I plan on wearing my oodie next time.

Go for it!

This.

It's not something I'd chose to wear in public, DH has one and he looks like a human burrito in it.

OldTinHat · 30/11/2023 12:58

I go to the cinema because it's warm and toasty! Far warmer than being at home.

SnugInTheCinema · 30/11/2023 12:59

DH thought it was along the lines of wearing your dressing gown and slippers to Tesco. I haven't seen a thread about an Oodie in the cinema before, but I have seen very long threads about pyjamas at hotel breakfast buffet, which are universally panned on MN

I’m the opposite - go to the cinema in the summer because it’s the only place that’s cool - I was going 3 times p/w in the heatwave and saw some truly rubbish films. No oodie required though.

QueenBean22 · 30/11/2023 13:01

That sounds like a sensible solution.

It’s definitely not along the same lines as wearing pjs or dressing gown in Tesco as someone previously said.

Dubbledup · 30/11/2023 13:02

Yabu. Take a heated throw and extension cable, ask them to plug you in.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/11/2023 13:02

Oodies are not pyjamas, dressing gowns or onesies Confused

They're big, extra thick hoodies, so not the same at all.

susiedaisy1912 · 30/11/2023 13:03

No I wouldn't it's house wear the same as a dressing gown.

Gettingbysomehow · 30/11/2023 13:04

I wear mine out all the time, mind you it's plain grey and not as gigantic as an oodie.

tortoiseshellcats · 30/11/2023 13:04

Wear what you need to to stay warm! I don't think it's any different to wearing a ski jacket or taking a blanket

JazzHandsYeah · 30/11/2023 13:07

That’s a brilliant idea. Our cinema is always freezing too, I’m wearing mine next time!

Menomeno · 30/11/2023 13:08

My son told me he saw a family in the cinema last week with a duvet!!! 😂To be fair it’s always about 6 degrees in there. I’d go for it, who is going to see you in the dark?

ganglion · 30/11/2023 13:08

If I saw you my only feeling would be jealousy that I wasn't wearing mine. You might start a trend!

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 30/11/2023 13:08

I don't like pj's, dressing gowns etc in public spaces either, but surely if you're going there in normal clothes and then changing into comfies in the loo, you're not in public, you are in the private space of the cinema? It's also dark so no one can see you! I think it's acceptable in the same way that wearing a swimming costume in a pool is acceptable. You're not out in public wearing it, you're dressed in specific attire for an event, so it doesn't count 😁
