to wear my Oodie in the cinema?

I'm the kind of person who feels the cold very easily, and my local cinema is always freezing. I usually wear my coat throughout the performance, but it's always a bit uncomfortable. But then I remembered my Oodie which is very warm, and perfect for relaxing in and watching a movie. The Oodie in question is clean and plain navy so won't look garish or (I hope) be too obvious to anyone walking by. The cinema will be dark anyway and it's one of the fancy cinemas with reclining seats so space isn't an issue. I won't wear the Oodie into the cinema, I'll bring it in a bag and change there (and use my coat as a blanket for my legs if needed).

I thought this was the perfect plan, but I mentioned it to DH and he looked horrified. So is this plan genius or a terrible idea?

Do it. It's not like you're turning up in full pyjamas and slippers. The cinema is dark no one will even notice or care. Anyone who would judge someone putting their oodie on over their clothes in the cinema is a snob who is not worth worrying about.

DejaVoodoo · 30/11/2023 13:56

Excellent idea! We're going this weekend, so I think I may bring mine!
I don't care if anyone sees.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/11/2023 13:57

I'd much prefer sitting near someone wearing an oodie rather than talking loudly/rustling through a bag of sweets/looking at their phone when the film is on

SageRosemary · 30/11/2023 13:59

There are outdoor versions of the "oldie" available now, fully reversible and zipped.

Last time DH and I went to the cinema it was baltic, so much so that we wrote an email complaining about it afterwards.

DragonFly98 · 30/11/2023 14:06

I have worn mine in the cinema and went in wearing it. It's not plain either it's has koala bears in it.

Koala bears in it?
Did they cost extra?

idontlikealdi · 30/11/2023 14:10

I always bring a fleece blanket. And then usually fall asleep as it's dark, warm and comfy which kind of negates the point of going...

TheNoodlesIncident · 30/11/2023 14:10

I feel the cold so never take my coat off in the cinema, I think it's a good idea to take something cosy with you. Some handwarmers to hold inside the pocket would be nice too.

An Oodie is a garment that goes over other clothes, so not actually comparable to pyjamas at all. It's intended to be a supplementary item specifically to keep you warm and not hide your nightwear. So go for it, if anyone's offended that's their (bizarre) problem.

OuiOuiMonAmiJeMappelleLafayette · 30/11/2023 14:18

Vue is always freezing!! Sounds like a good idea.

If you were on a date, I'd say no! The cinema in the dark? I don't understand how anyone would notice, nevermind care.

Well now, that's an idea. All sorts of shenanigans could happen under one.

StaunchMomma · 30/11/2023 14:30

I'd put it in a bag and put it on once there.

Fulshaw · 30/11/2023 14:54

The one thing I can take from this thread is that cinemas need to turn their heating on.

Shadowonasun · 30/11/2023 17:10

An Oodie is not the same as PJs or a dressing gown to me. It's a big oversized hoodie, not a onesie, not a dressing gown. I don't care what pattern is on it, it's still a hoodie, not pyjamas.

I wore one to the airport/flight. There was no choice for me but to fly, I was going to a funeral. I was coming down with something and feeling very very cold. So wore an oodie and a massive coat on top of it. Plus a big wooly scarf. And my oodie is not 'tasteful', it's lilac with sausage dogs (I love it). I'm sure I've got some looks. But didn't have any headspace to care.

Normally I wouldn't do this, but that was an exceptional situation. However, in a dark cinema? Don't see any problem and I really wouldn't think anything bad seeing someone wearing it. I'd think 'good for you'.

SnugInTheCinema · 02/12/2023 13:34

Just to update I took my Oodie to the cinema last night and I was warm and cosy throughout. We were also the only people on our row so I doubt anyone else was aware of my existence, let alone what I was wearing. I'll definitely be packing it in the future - I'm not going to pay cinema prices to be less comfortable than at home.

I saw a woman walking to Aldi in her PJ’s/dressing gown and it was raining. You do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Pinky2023 · 03/12/2023 19:14

Nothing to add other then i’d never thought of that . My cinema is in a big shopping centre though so it would mean carrying a bulky item in a bag

PTSDBarbiegirl · 03/12/2023 19:16

I couldn't! Just because I'd feel I was walking around in pj's in public or even in pants. I'd take it in a rucksack though and pop on/off in dark!!

BowlOfNoodles · 03/12/2023 19:20

The navy wouid be fine my avocado one no 😂

BusySittingDown · 03/12/2023 19:21

I've only read the OP so I have no idea if anyone else has said whether or not you are being unreasonable but some friends and I were going out last night, we were discussing what we were wearing and one friend joked that it was freezing so she was coming in her Oodie! I moaned that I really wished that it was socially acceptable to wear them out because it's so cold but I said that I would sooo wear it to the cinema!

BusySittingDown · 03/12/2023 19:23

I have the unicorn one 😂, DD1 has the breakfast one and DD2 has the avocado one.

Tbh, in the cinema I use my puffer coat (long like a sleeping bag) as a duvet. We always go to Vue with the reclining seats so it's very comfy!

LlynTegid · 03/12/2023 19:25

Hope you enjoyed the film.

MadAboutThat · 03/12/2023 19:27

I always take a hot water bottle, I felt a bit weird at first but then I thought about how much you pay to go to the cinema these days and I'm not going to be uncomfortable for 2 hours and £50 just in case some stranger thinks I'm weird.

gherkinmerkinn · 03/12/2023 19:35

I take a blanket and a travel mug full of prosecco to the cinema.

thesugarbumfairy · 03/12/2023 19:42

I dont see an issue at all.

leccybill · 03/12/2023 19:44

Ah, memories. We used to take toddler DD to the cheap Saturday morning screenings (£1!) with a blanket, a flask and bacon butties in tin foil. Happy times.
I'm def wearing my Oodie next time.
