to wear my Oodie in the cinema?

I'm the kind of person who feels the cold very easily, and my local cinema is always freezing. I usually wear my coat throughout the performance, but it's always a bit uncomfortable. But then I remembered my Oodie which is very warm, and perfect for relaxing in and watching a movie. The Oodie in question is clean and plain navy so won't look garish or (I hope) be too obvious to anyone walking by. The cinema will be dark anyway and it's one of the fancy cinemas with reclining seats so space isn't an issue. I won't wear the Oodie into the cinema, I'll bring it in a bag and change there (and use my coat as a blanket for my legs if needed).

I thought this was the perfect plan, but I mentioned it to DH and he looked horrified. So is this plan genius or a terrible idea?

I also feel the cold and often wear mine out. Got for it.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 03/12/2023 19:54

I would never wear mine where it could be seen - but regularly walk the dogs in my oodie/onsie with a long coat and boots on - no one knows and I am nice and toasty!! Genius idea to wear one the to cinema, I would have my coat over the top and take it off when I settled in.

Moonshine5 · 03/12/2023 19:54

It's a hell no from me

ChateauDuMont · 03/12/2023 19:59

Showing my age as I haven't been to a cinema in donkeys years !

They used to turn up the heating in the olden days to make it sweltering hot so you would buy cold drinks, ice lollies and ice cream in the interval!

My how times have changed!

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/12/2023 20:16

Would I judge? Hell yes!!

I would think "Wow, that woman is SMART why the fuck have I never thought of doing that!" Glad it worked out! Although my Oodie is a very long one, almost to my feet as I am short, and beige so maybe would stand out more!

ttcat37 · 03/12/2023 20:20

I’d judge you. It’s like wearing pyjamas in public.

A perfect answer to this and a good proportion of the other AIBUs.......

Amen to this!

I think it's a brilliant idea, go for it!!

Mind you I have special cinema trousers and cinema socks that I change into when I get there, so I have no shame.

Four pages in and no one has asked for more info about cinema trousers and cinema socks. Tell me. I must know.

PumpkinSly · 03/12/2023 20:26

Hahahaha! I came to the end of the thread to ask this very question. A photo of said cinema trousers and socks would be much appreciated 👍🏻

CavalierApproach · 03/12/2023 20:32

Oodies are pretty much dressing gown equivalents in my opinion so I wouldn’t personally do this. They might be half a step closer to daywear, but that still doesn’t put them over the line. (I don’t actually own one but my teens have them)

Also, if I wear something to the cinema I’d want to wash it afterwards for sure, and Oodies are big and cumbersome for washing so I’d be reluctant to wear it out on that basis.

I don’t really get why people don’t just buy adequately warm public-facing clothes?

All of that being said, I wouldn’t judge an outside Oodie-wearer — each to their own.

Alohapotato · 03/12/2023 20:34

I wouldn't...but you do you, no one will care.

JustAnotherOpinion123 · 03/12/2023 21:58

I take a blanket with me in a bag and crack it out in the dark. Dh rolls his eyes at me but better that than me shivering throughout the film! Oodies are just big blankets right? I'd just pack it and let him see how few people actually notice when you're in there (I.e. just him because no-one else will see you)

agent765 · 03/12/2023 22:58

Outdoor clothes for outdoor places for me.

I just don't like sitting around on my own furniture in clothes I've sat in public areas in.

If you don't wear it to lounge at home, fine. Otherwise, like my shoes, it would be off when I got home and washed before I'd wear it to lounge around in.

smileannie · 03/12/2023 23:26

I’m the same as a lot of posters on here. Cinemas are in my opinion always far too cold. I wear warm layers and take gloves, socks and a blanket, usually one from airplane. I think it’s pretty standard and nobody would be shocked. No point you feeling cold and not enjoying the film.

Treaclesandwich · 03/12/2023 23:30

No one gives a shit, and you’re in a room full of people, in the dark, who probably won’t notice, and if they do and they give a shit, you’ll probably never see them again.

MadCatLady27 · 03/12/2023 23:40

I rock up to the cinema in my joggers and sometimes heat holder socks, and sit under my coat as though it is a blanket as I feel the cold and it's usually freezing.

It's a cinema not a fashion parade

Thedm · 03/12/2023 23:41

I don’t understand why this is a thread. Just wear the oodie? You’re an adult. You realise you get to choose what you wear and as long as it’s not indecent in the wrong setting then go for it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/12/2023 00:27

What I dont get though, is why people dont just wait a few months and spend the cost of one cinema ticket to buy the film to watch over and over!

Going to the cinema costs a lot even without extras if you buy food and drink. You are uncomfortable, have to deal with other people who can often be very inconsiderate with phones, noise etc.....no film is worth that! I would rather wait, watch it at home wearing whatever the hell I like, eating what I like and pausing it whenever I need a pee!

My local cinema costs about a fiver to go to, so cheaper than the dvd! One of the few benefits of the location. Grin

HoppingPavlova · 04/12/2023 03:22

I wear mine to the cinema in winter as it’s always very cold there. Mine is bright with cartoon characters. Who cares? I wear mine in from the car and back to the car. I take thick bed socks in my handbag and put those on when I get to the seat.

ChellyT · 04/12/2023 04:10

There is a time and a place for an Oodie! And if the cinema isn't a place for one then where? I'm stoked you were warm and comfy and I'm here for future wears @SnugInTheCinema

MrsRaspberry · 04/12/2023 06:30

Do it-its essentially an oversized fluffy jumper and no ones gonna notice. They've not paid for a ticket to look at how everyone else is dressed they've paid to watch a movie. I have a Stitch snuddie and to be fair I'd totally wear mine in a chilly cinema for sure its got a massive pocket ideal to hold snacks too

Dragonbed · 04/12/2023 06:44

I think it’s a good idea! I wouldn’t be walking around in it but what’s wrong with putting it on when you get to your seat?! Noone’s going to be looking at you and it’s dark anyway! No brainer.

Celticliving · 04/12/2023 06:47

Do it!

I always take a blanket because my cinema is cold. The only time anyone said anything was "you look cosy, love" and we had a joke about being cold.

NotSorry · 04/12/2023 06:50

wearedonnnne · 30/11/2023 13:20

I have vowed to never go to the cinema without a blanket again.

Problem is I go so rarely that when I do eventually go I have forgotten!

Our cinema (Cineworld) is always freezing 🥶

I keep a small blanket in the car that my DH refers to as my cinema blanket- saves remembering each time
