Really regretting getting the Covid jab (warning pity party)

FlemCandango · 29/11/2023 12:27

I had my COVID vaccination on Saturday. I have had all the available boosters since lockdown as I have had some health issues that put me in a "slightly vulnerable to COVID" category.

Went to local chemist had the jab and a charity shop mooch, then came home all fine. 10-12 hours later I start feeling ropey. I know I might be in for a rough night as I have been known to react badly. So I had violent chills, followed by feverishness, crazy fever dreams, headache untouched by paracetamol, couldn't get out of bed for a wee without help, joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite ... This went on for 24 hours. I was still a wreck on Monday, so day off work, Tuesday tired but felt better and felt normal by the evening. I expected to be back at work today.

Then in the middle of the night, chills again I was shivering violently, headache returned plus sore throat and a cough. Most likely an opportunistic virus 🦠 but I am wondering why I put myself through all this🙄

Not sure if the net benefit outweighs the massively inconvenient time off work and feeling like shit-ness of it all.

I will think hard before taking the next booster if offered. I have the flu jab every year - never any issues with that one.

I had this reaction with the very first CV jab. I remember thinking that if this was how I reacted to the jab, how bad would actually getting the full blown virus have been? No further issues with boosters.

OP just think how you may have felt catching CV, and how many more potential days off, which is still very much around in our area. That's just a more postive way to think about your booster - whether true or not!

DH has had it too as considered vulnerable without any issues.

Flossflower · 29/11/2023 12:54

But you know that is wasn’t the jab that made you ill.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/11/2023 12:58

I've just had my booster as also vulnerable and have felt awful since. Primarily a crushing headache and fatigue. I felt the same after my first vaccination but had no symptoms after previous boosters. The nurse said this booster had been 'upgraded' to cover newer variants.

Still better than being hospitalised and/or dying though.

Bobbotgegrinch · 29/11/2023 13:01

What makes you think it's the jab that's made you I'll rather than getting a cold?

hjytrjulykuyh · 29/11/2023 13:08

My first jab I reacted so so badly, if I didn't live with a doctor I'd have thought I was having an allergic reaction and tried to ring for an ambulance. And I wouldn't have been able to because I was shaking so violently I couldn't hold my phone. I've never felt like that ever, before or since, that level of shaking, clenching my teeth to try stop them chattering, drenching the bed, I was unable to walk and couldn't sit up to take the paracetamol my OH brought me. It was violently shocking.

I had COVID months prior and it was a breeze, just a slight loss of smell/taste and no other symptoms. I've had boosters due to work but if I didn't have to I certainly wouldn't have bothered. The reaction to the jab was horrifying.

This.

BethDuttonsTwin · 29/11/2023 13:11

I think people really need to stop getting this unnecessary jab now.

Leo227 · 29/11/2023 13:12

this sounds more like the general cold/flu bug that's going around than the vaccine reaction.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/11/2023 13:12

I developed all kinds of neurological stuff 4 days after my 4th vaccine. Most of it has gone after about a year with vitamins and supplements galore , masses of water, deep breathing, gluten free, no sugar etc - but the first 6 months were truly awful and very frightening- won't be having another- I'm not anti vax as my H and son had no issues at all - but I personally definitely had a very bad response on the 4th

WhisperingAngle · 29/11/2023 13:13

I regret having the covid jab - I will never know for sure whether it caused me to have a heart attack. No other risk factors so am always left wondering. I certainly will never have another booster!

Octonaut4Life · 29/11/2023 13:15

Have you tested to check you don't actually just have COVID? You might have just caught it or another bug around the same time as having the jab.

I had my booster this year and unlike previous boosters where I felt rough for a couple of days I had hardly any symptoms.

AyrshireTryer · 29/11/2023 13:19

As someone who lost people to Covid. I continue to have the jab.

I don’t understand the certainty here. Doesn’t anyone else remember when the first lot were rolled out and pretty much everyone was ill and had side effects afterwards. I know I did. Every member of of my family did - children less affected though. Almost exactly 12 hours after the jab my temperature shot up and I was ill for about three days and then it disappeared. There were warnings that this might be the case when you went for the jab, handed sheets as you left telling you to be aware that it might happen.

GermanicNights · 29/11/2023 13:24

Sounds awful. It looks like the vaccine is the obvious cause of this illness, but I'm no doctor....I got covid when you still had to stay in for 2 weeks. I wasn't ill , just a bit more tired I guess. I enjoyed the two weeks in with all the family, got loads of sorting jobs in the house done, played family board games...cooked nice food. So I never got any vaccines at all. Watching the Covid Enquiry lately shows no-one really knew their head from their arse .....Scientists and politicians alike, so it makes me wonder if there is any point continuing to give these vaccines anymore 🤔

How would she know? 10-12 hours after the jab is the exact time you'd get symptoms. It happened to me and lots of others I know. With the early jabs we were still in lockdown so weren't going anywhere, so how would we have got sick from anything else?

OP I've only had mild symptoms from the jabs, though for the later ones I had a very painful egg-sized lump on my arm for days. My doctor (coincidental appointment for something else) said it was an extreme reaction, so not the kind of thing that would be expected. Haven't decided whether I'll have another one.

Had Covid in the summer and was pretty sick - shivering under a blanket when it was 37 degrees outside. I wouldn't like to get it again.

Sounds like the relapse is maybe another virus. I hope you feel better soon.

Edited

It was eleven hours for me. I'm not anti vaccine by any stretch, I've had it and the boosters, but we need to be able to acknowledge that the jab isn't risk-free or side effect free. It makes some people very, very poorly. Mine kicked in after eleven hours and I've never experienced anything like it before or since, and I'm not alone, I've known a fair few friends/family have the same reaction. I'm sure someone will be along to tell me maybe I just randomly got a very sudden onset intense flu type thing eleven hours after my covid jab and that's also what coincidentally happened to everyone else who went through the same thing.

There is a covid category. So people like me, who are sick to death of hearing about it, can hide the conversations.

Movinghouseatlast · 29/11/2023 13:29

Well, I had all those symptoms for 3 weeks recently when I had Covid, followed by 2 weeks of just feeling terrible but without symptoms. Couldn't work for 3 weeks.

I will buy a Covid booster jab when we are allowed to.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 29/11/2023 13:30

I'll never get the covid jab again. Had it twice and thought I was gonna die, I have never felt so unwell.

Had covid several times (both before and after the vaccines) and it was an annoying cold. A bad cold, but a cold, nothing compares to the jab side effects.

Never again!!!

Sumerian · 29/11/2023 13:31

My healthy, no underlying conditions teenager tested positive for covid last week. She's had it before and it's been just a cold/bad cold. This time she must have caught some awful varient or it just hit her wrong but i have never seen her so ill. Its progressed into a lung infection and a few days ago she was borderline for needing oxygen as her sats kept dropping to low 90s. Thankfully shes (slowly) recovering, but it scared us all

I’m 2.5 years down the line after jab 2. Still having symptoms.

Tiredalwaystired · 29/11/2023 13:37

I lost a friend just over a month ago to Covid. He was unvaccinated and had two young daughters.

I will continue to get the jab even if it makes me a bit poorly.

Tiiredofthiss · 29/11/2023 13:37

I've just had a bug that sounds just like this - it's very possible this is a coincidence and nothing to do with your jab. I wouldn't let it put you off further vaccines.

Kets27 · 29/11/2023 13:38

It probably means you might fall really ill with some of the variants out there and the vaccine has hopefully taught ur body to fight it next time.

Personally I had very mild symptoms when I got covid after I had the vaccine. Even post vaccine and post booster was fever and arm pain for 2 days so not bad and worth it I felt

I think some vaccine brands are better than others when they add things to reduce reactions. Report it to GP and the vaccine company
